Paris Bennett interview for ‘American Idol Rewind’

Part-time Fayetteville resident and season five contestant Paris Bennett called in late last week to promote the upcoming season of “American Idol Rewind,” which starts this weekend on TV Guide Channel.

Her class of 2006 is considered the favorite among many of us “Idol” acolytes. Among the top 10, Daughtry is huge. Kellie has been a surprisingly sturdy presence in country music. Bucky, Ace, Mandisa, Elliott, Kat and Taylor have kept themselves in the spotlight to various degrees. Even Lisa Tucker is working with Ne Yo.

Paris did come out with an album a couple of years back but got little traction. She had a baby nearly a year ago named Egypt. Whatever diva-like issues she had in 2007 are largely gone. But she really hasn’t forged a solid career image that I can ascertain.

And unfortunately, during my interview with her last week, I wasn’t able to get much deeper with her own assessment of her career or anything of real substance. I just don’t see a concrete plan. She says she’s working regularly and making enough money to survive doing corporate and foundation appearances, but she certainly hasn’t done much to stay in the public eye even to the degree of, say, Ace Young. Or even Kevin Covais.

Here’s what I was able to scrape up: her daughter is speaking a few words and is crawling. She said becoming a mom has given her a chance to get herself together and better herself career wise, though she wasn’t terribly specific on the career front. At least personally, she can focus on another human being and not as much on herself.

One thing I knew before is she has a big famly support system. That still seems to be the case. Her dad and mom still counsel her on her career. Her grandma and music legend Ann Nesby, who lives locally, is also around. She splits her time between Minneapolis and Fayetteville.

She said she has no regrets over her choices thus far. She also said she’d probably do the same thing if she were to try out this year, at age 19, instead of age 16. She still expresses broad influences and musical interests, from Prince (who she has met) to Peggy Lee to Annie Lennox.

She is about to start an album that she says will be “urban pop’ but I didn’t get much more in the way of details. She is no longer working on her family label, fishing for anoher one.

Paris is also going ot watch “Idol Rewind,” of course. Her most memorable moment: meeting Brian May of Queen. “And crying all the time,” she said. She was always sad to see people elmiinated.

She’s still close to Ace, Kevin and Lisa, plus Elliott and Taylor. I never got the impression she became buds with Kat, Kellie or Mandisa.

Thanks for the info, Rodney.

Can anyone say, “Immature?” Paris doesn’t sound that much different from the impression I had of her on the show.

And maybe the fact that “She is no longer working on her family label, fishing for another one” is a good thing. She might need someone to tell her what she needs to do instead of just preening over her.

Oh, and RH, exactly what does “epsosues” mean?? ;-)

Thank you Rodney, but not much meat as to what she is doing now. Raising a baby takes a lot, so that is to be expected. However, she has a chance to push her current or future projects, free publicity girl use it!

As an aside, I’m not normally one to thump people on typo’s but I think Rodney might be distracted. Last word should be Mandisa, and the first i in eliminated decided to visit his buddy. It’s all good, after all it’s a blog ;)

Oh, great, JT! Rodney went and fixed his typos, so now everyone will think we we’re imagining things! Or they’ll think we’re delusional. (Well, …I kinda am but no one’s supposed to know. …Or is that just a delusion on my part?) 8 )

Sheesh, Rodney, there are critics everywhere..even among friends.

Anyway, Paris, while not as snooty as she was in your first interview with her, still seems to have no interest in using the Press to help further her career. Not very smart if you ask me!

Highlander he left “elmiinated” maybe he did that for me, or maybe he left it because those two i’s are buddies. Rodney has a soft spot for the letter “i”

On with the discussion, because typo’s don’t bother me especially considering the work load Rodney has. Judging by the picture Princess P needs some help in the wardrobe department as well.

From the background I can tell that Paris couldn’t tell that much because her mouth has been zipped, but something is definately going on ;)

Rodney, you have an imposters’ MySpace profile, the correct one is http://www.myspace.com/parisbennettmusic !!

The one that you referred to was sold to some imposter by her first record company :(

My first chance to check out the blog since I left Atlanta in a horrendous downpour Monday a week ago. They even showed pictures of the drowned city on Swedish television. Unbelievable. Did all the regulars make it through with house and home, kith and kin? Our basement was flooded.

Sweden is lovely, sunny, and in the first throes of fall. Chestnuts and yellow leaves on ground everywhere. Temperature 12 celsius. Forgot to bring warm sweater.

Forgot to mention: last night I watched an episode of Swedish Idol! Five guys performed; two were voted through for the final twelve, and the results presented two hrs later. Tonight five girls sing. Oddly, they all sing in English. And the THREE judges kept talking about “pitchy” performances. Finally the Swedish Ryan Seacrest (he looks like Ryan too, only more unshaven) asked, “what does pitchy mean? Why can’t you use a Swedish word”. After much hemming and hawing the judges agreed that “sjunga falskt” was the best translation (really means “not being able to carry a tune”) but it sounded too harsh.

Good Morning Everybody…….

Today’s Quote: “The truth can only shine through open minds.”

Thanks for the new thread Rodney, I think. Paris does seem to still be immature and not sure which direction to take. I wish her well in whatever she does with her life/career. I’m sure her first consideration and concern is her daughter, as it should be.

Did I miss something, or is there an actual interview with Paris posted. Paris is very talented, but she needs some direction. It doesn’t sound like she has anything going on in her career. Nothing. If she can’t use her family connections to get the job done, she needs to go outside them.

Her daughter is a year old now, and Paris needs to get out there and work in the business. If she needs to do what other Idols have done–go work on the stage for a while, she needs to do that. Talent isn’t enough. She needs good management, a good agent, some good music, and an opportunity to work. She had plenty of potential when she left Idol, and for the most part it’s going to waste.
