‘The Amazing Race,’ Jeff Probst beat ‘American Idol,’ Ryan Seacrest (as usual) in Emmy race – but ‘Idol’ director wins!

Another year, another loss.

For the seventh year in a row, “American Idol” lost to “The Amazing Race” for best reality competition. In fact, “Race” has won every single year the category has existed. The voters base their votes on a single episode and face it, “Amazing Race” is an extraordinary show in terms of logistics and entertainment. It brings more drama than “Idol” from that perspective on any single episode.

Ryan Seacrest also lost in the second year of the best reality show host competition, again to Jeff Probst of “Survivor.”

But in the grand scheme of things, who cares, eh?

And hey, at least Bruce Gowers, the “Idol” director, finally won in his category for the first time in seven.

The Idol director won after last years garbage? You can debate the amazing race or Ryan thing, but best director… No.

Happy Monday Morning Everybody.

Today’s Quote: “Take risks; if you win, you will be happy. If you lose, you will be wise.”

Hope everyone had a great week-end, although, it was a wet one. And, it’s still WET!!!!!!!

I was suprised that the idol director won an emmy for the “Best Director” of a reality show. Does that mean we will get more sloppy changes? Certainly hope not.

Good morning! Well, I hope everyone is staying dry and safe!
Not surprised at AR winning again, it really is a great show with the drama from week to week. Poor Ryan though…..

Yeah. I think WE all agree that Ryan is much more deserving than Probst; i think a lot of it is the fact that somehow AI has been cast as the “idiot’s” show — the brunt of more jokes than any other reality (or so-called reality) show on television. After all, it’s “just” God-given talent plus a lot of guts and hard work to even appear, much less win, that’s certainly not an American concept is it? We all know that life consists of concocted scenarios filmed every minute of the day and that we only experience the “director’s cut” of our lives… oh lordy, someone drag me from the soapbox before i get started about this topic!!! i can be a lot more vituperative and venemous about this than even politics!!! ***linda stumbles away, mumbling unspeakable thoughts**

I truly think Ryan would stand a better chance if he stopped the back-and-forth “you’re gay” banter with Simon. People will not take him seriously until then.

You’d think the PC folks there would penalize AR for its massive carbon footprint. Wasting gasoline and such for unnecessary amusement. Al Gore wouldn’t approve.

Morning, folks. Will not be by too much this morning. A morning commute that normally takes 45 minutes took two hours this morning thanks to flooded/mud covered/closed roads and idiots that can drive in the rain.

I think they can lift the watering restrictions now!

(Hey… the view from the soapbox isn’t half bad!)

Linny, you still owe me one of those super slow-mo hair flip things!

Sentence edit for previous post: “idiots that can drive in the rain” should be “idiots that can’t drive in the rain – without slowing down and turning on their flashers.”

And Linny… if you could do the super slow-mo hair flip thing while ascending to the soapbox, I’d appreciate it. :-)

That way I could make sure that the steps are safe as you as you climb. :-)

After all… those motorcycle boots & tight pants could restrict your motion and upset your sense of balance.

I’m prepared to stay sit here all day and watch you climb up and down (especially up) those steps to make sure they’re safe!

Rick, sorry about your commute. Where do you drive from and drive to? I heard the mess on I85 and 285 was awful. Glad my 74 mile commute (one way) is all back country roads. We had some associates that were stuck in the mess and took them over 3 hours to get to Griffin.

I drive from a little east of Loganville to the Northlake Mall area. Hwy 78 was closed in two places (Killian Hill due to a wreck & near Hugh Howell due to a mudslide!)

ALL the back roads were as jammed as my coronary arteries after a visit to the Varsity!

Well it looks like all of us were the lucky ones last night, we had to have recieved about a gazillion inches of rain. The weird thing is with all the rain Georgia has had the last couple of weeks, we had not recieved much until last night. Schools are closed, people have died and some are missing, water systems are out and roads are missing. I’m grateful that my family and friends are fine.
Nana, how did you do with your test results?
I tried to watch the Emmys, I didn’t get to see all of it because mother nature interfered.

yup….but we can have FUN being bored!!! I’ve always enjoyed trying to make a “scene” as realistic as possible — I have a long-distance (female) friend … we get online together and “cook a meal” … we have to describe every step as if we were in the room together…. hilarious sometimes as we will “run into” each other and have to react … we will do something “surprising” or startling just to get the other to have to literally stop typing midword to “catch” whatever is dropped, or whatever…. it can be a hoot.

Tried to post this early this morning but pacman was up early, too:

“…and face it, “Amazing Race” is an extraordinary show in terms of logistics and entertainment. It brings more drama than “Idol” from that perspective on any single episode.”

Rodney, I think the term “drama” is debatable. I think ‘overly melodramatic’ fits better. And Amazing Race certainly doesn’t come close in the ratings category! (Loses the race, one might say.)

I do agree with JT (and others) regarding disbelief on the director’s award. Bruce Gowers must have had a great lobbying committee! Although, the award was supposed to be based on the finale and that might have been the only episode that came in pretty much on time!

Ryan, the host of a 2 weekly live shows, losing to Jeff Probst, who gets to have any mistakes edited out (so who knows how many ‘do-overs’ he has per week!) is also a joke.

I firmly believe what you really see here is a backlash against conservative-run Fox (and it’s success) by the leftist Hollywood entertainment elite.

Just got a call from hubby who has been trying since 1:30 to get home from Tucker. He said no matter what route he takes, the roads are closed. He got caught in the mudslide this morning at 78 and Hugh Howell and again this afternoon. Tried to take Five Forks Trickum to 78 and has been sitting in one spot for nearly an hour, since both 78 and Five Forks are closed.

Rickster, hope you have better luck coming from where you are.

Nana, me too!

I heard that they’ve re-opened 78.. but will be closing it again at some point. I’m definitely going to be listening to traffic before I head out this afternoon. I’ve got several back roads I can take, but other folks can take them too!

Anybody know what a how long a “cubit” is??

About time for me to head home. Everyone who has to drive this afternoon, please be careful and don’t cross over water if the streets are flooded.

Stay safe and dry.

Don’t forget DWTS tonight at 8:00.

Hey, everyone! I am back from five days at the beach, but have lots to do this evening. I have been thinking about all of you in GA, since hearing about the rain and flooding. I was at the beach with a high school friend who lives in Marietta, and she drove back there this morning from Columbia, SC. She called to report she’d made it safely back. Please everyone stay safe, and I will talk to you from work tomorrow. :(

Do they have harvesting machines on eBay?? :-)

Ok, I leave town for a few days and the whole place falls apart! Somebody needs to turn off the faucet…NOW!!!!

Got on a plane in NYC at 11:30 this morning and arrived in the ATL at 6:30 this evening…never left the plane. First we were delayed at the starting point, then we got to cool our heels on the tarmac at the Greenville/Spartenburg airport in SC while ATL tried to dig itself out from under the latest storm. I had no idea this was going on…the weather in NY was beautiful.

I’ll catch up with y’all tomorrow after I go rescue my dogs from the kennel. Missed ya!

Good Morning Everybody…

Today’s Quote: “Never look down on anyone unless you’re helping them up.”

Hope all of you got home alright yesterday. I made good time until I got to Newton County. A normal ride from there home is about 30 minutes. Not so yesterday. Took me nearly 2 hours. Roads flooded, trees in the roads plus a serious accident. But, I made it safely. This morning coming through Covington before I came into Butts County, had to make a fast swerve to the left to avoid a tree that was blocking my lane. Didn’t see it until I was right on it. Thank goodness there wasn’t a car in the left lane.

Deirdre, glad to see you are back safe and sound. Hope you enjoyed your trip and time spent with family. We missed ya gal!!!

How many of you saw DWTS last night? I thought Donnie and Kim were good. although. Donnie showed off his showmanship. The opening number with the male pros was good. Tonight the ladies strut their stuff.

Good morning guys! If you’re in Atlanta, I hope you’re not TOO wet. My basement is leaking a bit but I can’t do anything about it til it dries up. At least I now know where to plug! New blog entry by the way if you want to check out Kris Allen’s new single!
