Blake Lewis in tax trouble?

The Detroit News reports that season six runner up Blake Lewis owes $125,000 to the IRS. Though Lewis’ spokesman said it has been resolved, the publication has seen no lien release, indicating a paid debt. He joins Fantasia and Ruben Studdard when it comes to tax issues.

-Bucky Covington’s “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” appearance is on Sept. 23 on CMT. His charity is the Arthritis Foundation.

-If you’re not a fan of Daughtry, you’ll get a kick out of this rather harsh review from the Oakland Tribune.

How many different ways are there to say the word boring? My thesaurus lists 24 synonyms.
That’s probably not enough to adequately describe Daughtry’s show on Thursday night at the Fillmore in San Francisco. So, I might have to look up some synonyms for bland as well.

-David Cook is doing a few cover songs on his tour including “Little Lies” by Fleetwood Mac, “Hot For Teacher” by Van Halen and Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died In Your Arms.” Someone really likes the ’80s, eh?

-I somehow overlooked the Self magazine Photoshop controversy a couple of weeks ago. Kelly Clarkson was made to look thinner, which makes the headline ironic “Slim Down Your Way.”

And here’s a shot of her from July 31 at “Good Morning America”:

Only commenting because some of you guys get all excited to be “first one in”.

Kelly is so adorable, but hasn’t a clue how to dress – on stage or off. Wish “What Not To Wear” will get ahold of her.

Don’t you need to make money in order to be in tax trouble? Oh and who is Blake Lewis ;)

Rodney thanks for the info and the dose of reality on the last thread.

Kelly looks good no need to shop her, but it happens everywhere. Right Microsoft?

Rodney, following up on your last comment about the variety of the current top 40-I beg to differ. Taylor Swift is country only in the marketing sense. Marketing her as country is ok, as long as we can tell the difference in what is and is not “real” country. Just mho. We had this argument back in the ’70s, with Kenny Rogers, et al, until Waylon and Willie and others of their ilk came along and showed ‘em what country was. Just my perspective, gang.

You can definitely tell the difference in Kelly between her audition video & the pictures above. But of course, which of us weighs or looks the same as we did eight years ago.

Harriett, the same thing could be said of any genre of music. What is pop? What is rock? The same questions regarding “is she country” went around with Shania. I feel that she, like Taylor are in fact country. I got the impression regarding the anti-Shania folk that perhaps there are quite a few country-music snobs. Not that being a snob is a bad thing, I’m a bit of a beer snob, but snobs sometimes need to realize that it is ok for someone to drink a Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Oh in case you are wondering Taylor Swift = Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Regarding Kelly’s picture: she may have put on some weight, but I’d rest my beer on that shelf any day.

JT, you seriously are my fave. (With apologies to Queen D and Linny!) , but Taylor the PBR of country? Ha! ;)

Now on to the topics, Blake who? How can he owe that much? I mean, doesn’t that require making money? Ok, I’ll stop…

Whoever wrote that Daughtry review is hysterical. I’ve liked a couple of thier songs, but they’re kinda like our version of Nickelback…and is it me, or does it seem like every song of theirs sounds the same?

After reading about David Cook’s covers, I’m thinking I might have to catch his show. :)

Now, Kelly ’cause I’m sure y’all were waiting for my two cents. I mean, right? To me Self shot themselves in the foot, and they kepd digging a whole. The whole point of the interview was Kelly saying that she’s comfortable in her skin and the way she looks. Props to her for that. Does she look like she did a few years ago? Clearly not. Which, personally doesn’t bother me. I still think she’s beautiful, and as long as she has the same personality and voice, the rest comes and goes. After all, “beauty fades, dumb is forever.” Though, I would love to hire her a new stylist. Of course, I’d hire myself… ;)

JT, you make my point. “Real” is whatever the powers that be say it is. It is not in the eye of the beholder. Lots of radio stations fall plague to that. Here in Columbia we had a popular morning DJ, who had hosted his rock-oriented show for over 20 years. He made great sport of country music, but economics came into play and he was made head DJ at his company’s country station here in town. It is so funny to listen to him singing Taylor Swift’s and others’ praises now and reporting on the country concerts. To me, country is Kenny Chesney or Brad Paisley or Randy Travis on the male side of things, and definitely Carrie, Reba, Kellie or Wynonna on the female. TS is definitely middle of the road somewhere, but who asked me. PBR!! LOL!!

BTW, I just read that Carrie is working with Max Martin as well. Who is he? Perhaps y’all have heard of a little song called Since U Been Gone? ;) He’s also worked with Pink on her latest two album as well as Britney and the boybands of the 90s. He’s definitely a pop hit maker…I’m wondering what Carrie’s going for? First Claude Kelly, Ne-yo and now this. Hmm.

Taylor Swift = PBR. I love it!! Such an apt description! Highlander, I listen to a WIDE variety of much also, and I would love to see the metro area get a station willing to play the best of ANY genre. Sure would be a great station, and I’d bet they’d be fighting advertisers off. :-) Just a suggestion from a radio fan. BTW and totally off-subject, when did our local newscasters start dropping the word “area” and referring to the “Atlanta Metro” instead. Does this annoy anyone else? (grinning sheepishly and pushing the soap box back under the desk)

One day, people will come to realize that we as Americans, HAVE to pay tax on earned income. What part of that do they not get?

IMO, I feel it’s not right to change a photo shoot to make one look different. A person is what they are, inside and out, and no amount of cropping is going to change that. If Kelly is comfortable in herself, then the magazine has no right to say otherwise, and imo, by changing her looks, that is exactly what they are saying.

To answer Rickster’s question in his post of 10:18, I dare say that not any of us look the same as we did 8 years ago, not even 3 or 5 years ago. It’s what inside a person that counts. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Enjoyed the music memories/lessons on previous post!

Anyone who is stuck in one mode of music only has to be a boring person.
Hubby listens to lots of country, but every now and then he slips in a Maria Callas, or rock classic or folkie. On my player is soundtracks from “Twilight”, “True Blood”, “Inglorius Basterds” and “Cheri”.

I love Kelly’s voice AND attitude about her body. We have enough size 0 celebs. In the new movie “The September Issue” (documentary about Vogue’s Anna Wintour) there’s a great scene where the chief stylist has to fight for a photograph in which a non-model shows a bit of tummy – her boss wanted to “slim down” the civilian.

I’m thrilled that other people agree that Kelly should never have been photoshopped. She’s a gorgeous, natural young woman who is happy with her body and herself. Too many girls today are trying to look like size 0 coat hangers. It’s ugly. I don’t find collarbones appealing. Thin is fine as long as you are not too anorexic in appearance, IMO.

American Idol auditions we’d love to have seen: Julian Lennon

Randy: “Dude, you’ve got your dad’s chops!”
Kara: “I like the whole cool vibe of your dad’s early years. But don’t tie yourself too close to your dad. It’ll detract from your artistry.”
Paula: “I loved your dad as a Beatle. Why hasn’t he released anything lately?”
Simon: “My advice to you, young man, is stay away from tone deaf asian women.”

Hey, you guys hating on Blake Lewis (I happen to know who he is, …okay, I admit I had to look it up) are forgetting one single fact – the IRS!

Poor little Blake probably grossed $250 and the rest is penalties and interest!!

Highlander

August 27th, 2009

Harriett got it right. Taylor Swift is only thought of as Country because that’s the way she was marketed. And that was probably only because her first hit had Tim McGraw’s name in it! Listen to any of her hits and it’s evident that she’s Pop all the way!

And, RoHo, I would make the same argument regarding Mariah. She’s not R&B! Except for possibly her duet (years ago) with Boys II Men, her hits have all been typical Pop songs in the same vein s Whitney (also not R&B), Celine or (even) Barbra S.

There have always been some crossovers on the Top 40 charts (usually Country to Pop/Rock) but that doesn’t qualify Top 40 (or the radio stations which cater to it) as a melting pot of music.

JTesla

Highlander: $250.00 is probably about right. I’m no fan of the IRS, but I can’t see Blake needing to file anything other than an EZ form. Of course if he went the 1040 route he could probably deduct the $2.13 which he spent at Goodwill last year for his wardrobe. Work related expense you know.

Morning!

It’s been raining for hours!!!! My poor dogs are not happy. They didn’t get their morning run around the backyard.

We went to see District 9 yesterday. Very good, almost haunting. It was such an interesting combination of action and pathos. Not your average sci-fi movie.

Kristen Chenowith will be one of the guest judges. For those of you who don’t know, she’s a Broadway based actress/singer(what a voice!!!). She was also featured in an absolutely adorable tv show that didn’t make it because of the writers’ strike. Pushing Daisies.

I know how to get things started:

I’ve heard a rumor that Megan Fox has been cast as the new Catwoman. While I understand that Catwoman needs a jaw-dropping body, I had hoped, given the artist quality of the recent Batman movies, that they could’ve found an actress to play the part.
