New Katharine McPhee single, Paula Abdul hosting “VH1 Divas”

I had to throw a bone to JTesla after the photos of Joe Jonas and Clay Aiken the past week. Here’s a lovely shot of a blonde Kat McPhee. And here’s her song “Had It All.” It’s very pop, better than her only charting single “Over It” but does not have No. 1 written all over it.

- Paula Abdul’s first post-”Idol’ gig is hosting VH1’s “Divas Live” concert Sept. 17 featuring two “Idol” winners: Jordin Sparks (a new addition) and Kelly Clarkson. Others include Adele, Miley Cyrus and Leona Lewis.

-Phil Stacey has a new Christmas/gospel album out today. I guess the country thing didn’t work, try a different genre!

-No secrets where “Idol” held the Dallas auditions: the W Hotel. Yes, another W Hotel. The Dallas Morning News covered the hullabaloo as Joe Jonas arrived.

Thanks for the Kat single, Rodney. You’ve made JT very happy!

Thank you Rodney, that makes up for Jonas and Aiken. Let’s break out the whip cream and the cherries! This is very rare, but she actually looks better as a blonde. She easily would have beat what’s his name had she changed her hair before Idol.

Divas, I might try to catch it just to see Kelly and maybe Jordin, and ok I’ll admit it Miley.

I guess Linny and others chose a real good week to go on vacation. The blog topics have been less-than stimulating.

Nice Rickster…why not just spit in Rodney’s face while you’re at it!

I like the topics, Rodney…keep ‘em coming!

JT, she really does look good as a blonde, doesn’t she? I think my husband might go for that look too. I’ll definitely be watching the divas show to see Kelly. :-)

JT – have you ever heard Miley live? She is not very good; they do a lot in the studio for her. I might watch the show just to see Kelly.

Rickster–the “Idol” news has not been exactly flowing the past few days! I added a poll about Kat McPhee just moments ago…

Hey y’all!

Sure way of getting me to come out and play….did someone say Kelly?! ;) Y’all know I’ll be tuning in. Really, tho, other than Kelly, which y’all clearly know I’m biased, this lineup doesn’t hold a candle to the old Divas. I mean, Miley? Seriously? And I like Jordin, but have the producers not heard of Carrie Underwood? Yes, I’m greedy. But can y’all imagine those Kelly and Carrie on stage together? (You’re welcome, JT! ;) ) Still, I’ll watch.

So, Paula hosting, two Idol winners, why not just call it, VH1 Goes Idol?

Rickster, topics are “less-than stimulating?” Really, Katharine McPhee… with a cherry is not stimulating? It’s the off season and new albums have not yet dropped. Rodney you are doing great keeping things going until things really get going.

K&Cfan – Kelly and Carrie should be on Divas together!!! The title Divas sounds better than the reality of the situation which would have the show named “A bunch of female singers that agreed to be on the show.”

Lar, the closest I’ve come to hearing Miley “live” was on Idol and also when my daughter wouldn’t let me change the channel when some concert-movie of hers was on. I didn’t really mind it, but then sometimes I like to listen to bubblegum pop.

It is sad, but absolutely NONE of the artists that article mentions for the VH1 show are REAL DIVAS. These young women, of limited vocal talent and abilities, haven’t even been in the music industry long enough to even be considered nor referred to as a Diva. The use of the term has been so diluted that now any of these (cookie cutter – all sound the same) vocalists are referred to as being a diva.

No offense was intended to Rodney. He can only report what he finds.

Of course… we’ve not been doing a real good job of keeping up our end of the deal this week, either!

And no, JT, Kat McPhee doesn’t really do much for me.

Rickster, before today she didn’t do much for me. Wait let me correct that: before today, aside from her wardrobe malfunction, she didn’t do much for me. What can I say, I like maraschino cherries.

I did some investigating and I’m guessing Carrie was probably asked. Divas has had country artists and if they were looking for the hottest country girl, that is Carrie, IMO. However, the issue is that both Divas and Carrie’s induction into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame & Concert are the same night, Sept. 17th…

Oh, and by the way, the intial PR states that there’ll be 8 peformers…we have three yet to be announced.

My favorite album cover of ALL time was the cover for “Whipped Cream” by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I’d take the lady on that cover over Kat McPhee ANY day!

Howye, gang!

An Observer, I agree to a point regarding the overuse of the term ‘diva’ (lower case ‘L’ appropriate), especially regarding the inclusion of Miley Cyrus.

Does anyone else see the irony in Paula hosting a show called “Divas”?? Considering the stories we’ve heard about her from AI staffers and the negotiations with Ugly Betty falling through due to her list of demands, it’s a lot like art imitating life! Hopefully they won’t let her SING, too!

I don’t have anything against Paula’s singing (although it was studio enhanced), she just in no way qualifies as a Diva (in the positive connotation of the word denoting GREAT vocal ability)!

K&C, She was indeed our Miley Cyrus. I’m convinced of it!

IMO, Kelly has the pipes, Leona Lewis has the pipes. I’m not familiar with Adele, so I can’t comment on her. But Jordin does not have ‘Diva’ pipes and Miley doesn’t belong in the same sentence with the word!

C’mon, look at past performances and who was involved: Aretha, Celine, Whitney (before she screwed herself up), Mariah, et al. THEY qualify as Divas due to their vocal range and power.

Almost every”pop star” singing from the mid 80’s on is studio enhanced…and quite a few before that. I think we sometimes fail to appreciate the talent the Idols have. Every week they manage to put together a live performance, flaws and all and do a credible and sometimes wonderful job. I’d like to see half the pop stars today attempt that.

Heather MacDonald

Adele does not have the pipes. In fact, she’s really new to the music scene and, I have to say, not all that talented. Her songs are more of the “repeat one line 12,000 times” school than what I enjoy.

Neil Patrick Harris, according to E Online, is possibly guest judging in Dallas at the auditions today!! OMG, I love him!! He’s one of the wittiest, smartest, and most adorable people on tv. I hope this is not just an ugly rumor, because he would be a FANTASTIC guest judge.

I watched/listened to Neil Patrick Harris assist with a Rifftrax of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory… one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched. If you are wondering what Rifftrax is, it’s like Mystery Science Theater. If you are wondering what that is then I pity you.

I’d rather see Ringo handle the early auditions as a guest judge.

Phil does not have to “try” any new genre. And the cd is one of Christian music, not “Christmas” music. If you bother to check out his official site, and read his bio, you will know that he grew up around Gospel, bluegrass, and country. He went country because he wanted it and Randy Jackson encouraged him to. Had there been a Christian music week or so, he would have also been told that he should pursue that. His label simply did not support him like they should have. He could have done better. Reunion Records is doing a whole lot more in this one day of his cd release than I remember Lyric Street did for him, although his fans thank that label for helping to launch his post-Idol career. But he is not “trying” anything. He is continuing to do what is “in his blood,” as Phil himself put it. And it is a beautiful cd, btw. You should try listening to some of the songs. They can be found on his myspace and his official site. They are available for individual download on his official site, iTunes, and Amazon.

Good Morning Everybody…….

Today’s Quote: “Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions.”

Another generation has ended with the passing of Sen. Ted Kennedy during the night. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Kennedy family.

May not have much time to be active here today, as yesterday. Will try to sneak a peek when I can. Ya’ll hold down the fort and be nice. :)
