Michael Johns to join David Foster & Friends tour at Fox Theatre in October

Season seven finalist and former Buckhead resident Michael Johns wasn’t going to make it to Atlanta on his tour with Brooke White. But he is joining David Foster & Friends for 10 dates — including October 28 at the Fox Theatre. \

Downside: tix ain’t cheap. They range from $57 to $127 before Tickemaster fees. Presale beings tomorrow. More details here.

Others joining David include Philip Bailey (”Easy Lover”) and Peter Cetera (formerly of Chicago).

Johns recently told E! Online that Paula Abdul deserves $20 million a year. That’s easy to say when it’s not your money!

-Mark your calendar. Kris Allen has pre-orders available for his first album on Amazon for a release date of November 17.

It’s good to hear that Michael Johns will be touring, but $20 million for Paula? Maybe $20.00 a show, is that what he meant?

Thanks for the info Rodney.

JT, I don’t know about that $20 million either. Sounds exorbitant to me, but then I think that overpaying people is the norm in La La Land.

Hey y’all….

Actually, the article says it’s $20mil over three years, which, well, isn’t terrible. I’m guessing that’s about double her salary. Blah, blah, blah. Can y’all wake me up when it’s over? Thanks! ;)

American Idol auditions we’d loved to have seen: Carly Simon

Randy: “For me.. it was a little breathy. But you look great.”
Kara: “I loved your singing, but the whole ‘flower child/hippie look is SOOO out. Maybe you should try to update your look to better compliment your artistry.”
Paula: “You know… you remind me of Brooke White.”
Simon: “So… WAS that song really about me?”

Thanks, RH, for the new thread.

Well, I guess we now know that Michael Johns is a mental midget. Perhaps he should follow that old adage: “It’s better to be thought of as a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt!”

Almost time for to head out. So………………………..Everybody have a great evening, be safe, be happy and remember to keep a song in your heart, a smile on your face and a tap in your toes. Above all, be careful when on the roads and highways.

Later gang……………………… :)

What Michael said is that Paula is worth the 20 Million over the course of 2 years. That’s a bit less than 7 Million per year. I think she’s worth more than some of the judges that now grace the show, but she’s asking less than half of what they get.

Deirdre

Why is Michael Johns a mental midget? Because he thinks Paula deserves $20 million a year? It’s already been made pretty clear by dozens of former contestants that the only judge who paid any attention to them at all was Paula. Maybe his statement was more about how well Paula treated the contestants and what he felt that was worth to those kids. Maybe it was meant not so much literally but as a statement of how much he appreciated her involvement and motivation.

Or he’s a mental midget…but I don’t think we have enough info to make that kind of judgment.

Besides…the queen likes Michael Johns…a lot…so watch it!!!!! ;-)

Don’t mess with Queen D, either!! I agree there is not evidence on which to call Michale a mental midget. My time to say adios. See you tomorrow.

No burial yet for Michael Jackson, JT. It was scheduled for the 29th on what woul;d have been his 51st b’day, but now has been postponed. The police will now most likely go after his doctor, as they should. That doctor knew better to provide meds in that manner.

Listen up everybody!!!! No one messes with Queen D because she is the best Queen on here. Got it? :) :) :)

Sorry, Queen D, but I’ll stick by my assessment. Paula’s contract offer from 19 isn’t based on what she means to the contestants (who change every season) but to what her overall worth to the show is.

And that’s NOT over $5M per year!

Johns Q. Public, thanks for the correction regarding the 2 in your 4:39pm post. I was getting ready to ask what public school you went to where 20 divided by 2 equaled 7. ;-)

Deirdre

And…since that’s what Johns actually said…then 7 million a year would have been reasonable…considering that she was asking for $10 million a year. I rest my case.

I think Paula is worth 7 million if Simon is worth what they are paying him. Lets not even discuss the other 2 commentators.

Highlander

No! A 30% (!!!!!!!) raise to $5M per year (which is the offer that has been reported) is MORE than reasonable.
In the immortal words of Neg – “I win.” :-) :-)

Deirdre

I agree! Not with the “I win” part. $5mil per year is perfectly reasonable…but, considering that Paula wanted $10mil, a compromise of $7mil does NOT make Michael Johns a “mental midget” which is the phrase I was objecting to in the first place. Way overboard in the nastiness, if ya ask me!

JTesla

That’s something I should try that with my boss:

“So boss I’m making minimum wage, but I’d like a raise to 1 million dollars.”
“No”
“Let’s compromise and say $500,000?”

The above story of course isn’t true, I live off tips. Stripping pays well folks.

Victoria Beckham is spreading herself thin – guest-judging “Idol” and now guest-hosting “The View”. I though she had a real job walking her collection of Hermès bags in public.

Highlander, I agree with the others that “mental midget” was a bit harsh, but I see your point as well. JT, stripping does pay well, doesn’t it? Especially if you know how to work that pole! Mercedes and Nana, it semms to me that Beckham has nothing to offer other than lessons on how to make that extremely sour face she makes all the time. She’s too skinny to be sexy in any way, and I’m not sure what the appeal is.

I remember thinking of Jennifer Lopez/mentor being stunt casting for the ratings but I ended up pleasantly surprised. While she might have been there to plug her new single, she also took the job seriously. As superficial as Victoria Beckham seems to be(and may PROVE to be) she might surprise us, too.

Good morning all. Here is a link to Simon Cowell, et al on X Factor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FA5DkFUSxk They showed part of it this morning on tv. He actually gave a standing ovation to this contestant. However, for an audition, it sure did have lots of backup. Definitely not an a capella audition like AI has.

Deirdre

Thanks for the video, Harriett. It was linked on the previous blog. I thought the video was more significant in showing how 4 judges can work together in a reasonable(rather than egotistical) way.

Harriett, you took the thoughts out of my head – for an audition that was mighty “professional”. Did I imagine the choir?

Heather MacDonald

I think that, much like AGT, you can use a karaoke-type backtrack for your audition before the audience and judges.

Harriett

I noticed that very thing, D. Did not see it on another blog. Anyway, it was amazing how civil everyone was to each other, and Simon did not dominate the way he does here. Heather, you are right about AGT, but why don’t they allow that for Idol?

Deirdre

August 25th, 2009

Ya know, Harriett…getting Paula off the panel may be a good thing. Simon won’t get away with picking at anyone else and will pay more attention to the singers…and maybe even the show.

Harriett

August 25th, 2009

You may have a point, D. He certainly did not have anywhere near the same dynamic going on with the other female judges on X Factor, did he?

Deirdre

August 25th, 2009

How many times on Idol has Simon asked “What did he/she say?” when the contestants are speaking. He was so engrossed in planning or executing his next Paula attack that he hardly ever listened to what anyone was saying. He doesn’t seem to behave like that at all on X Factor. He’s very businesslike and committed to the critique……like he used to be during the first couple of seasons on Idol.

Deirdre

And speaking of Paula…she’s working again. VH1 has chosen her to host the new Divas show.

Heather MacDonald

Harriett, I think it’s because AGT is more about a VARIETY of performers than Idol is. With Idol, if you can’t sing a cappella, you can’t sing. Plus, they have a live band and backup singers in-house for later the competition. No need for backup tracks.

JTesla

If Paula makes less than 5 million a year with her various endeavors (Divas) can I call her a Dunkleman?

Harriett

August 25th, 2009

I get that, Heather, but X Factor did see fit to have the background music for this singer. I just think it would make for a more interesting and insightful audition, should AI adopt it. They’ve already allowed more and more since the first two years/two rounds.

Deidre, I hate to disagree with your highness, but it seems to me that the reason Simon has to ask “what did she say?” is because Paula’s answer was rambling and/or incoherent.

Deirdre

August 25th, 2009

Yes of course Simon doesn’t understand what Paula says…who does? What I was talking about was the large number of times one of the Idols says something and Simon, who wasn’t paying attention has to ask Paula what they said.

HighLander, Deidre, JTesla…
Leave Michael Johns alone.. Why are you insulting him?
Who are you? Pull back from him. He’s not alone with his opinion. Paula Abdul was on AI from the beginning. She was a judjge , who brought her part of AI success as a TV show. No one from you list above will not be able to replace her. Many others shows are more then happy to have her. And she got very nice offer already.
You can’t accept the fact that her job paid by $$$$$..Well, try to accept it. Maybe it’s very hard for you, but try..That’s what it is. Don’t count her $$$$$, more or less – it still $$$$$, count your pennies in your pockets. That’s price for your bright mentality. OK, darlings? Be careful with your judgement online. It looks you are never think twice before to say something. That’s why you’re so active here- count your pennies is not that long.
