Paula Abdul’s manager says: no talks with “Idol”

The L.A. Times talked to Paula Abdul’s David Sonenberg about her future and he says “Idol” is not likely to be part of it.

Sonenberg said that there have been “no discussions whatsoever about ‘Idol,’ ” and added that while he would “never count anything out,” Abdul’s priorities are elsewhere.

The Times also says the Radaronline report of Fox focus groups to gauge interest in Abdul was false. It also refutes reports by Fox and MSNBC.com that a Paula return is increasingly likely. In other words, nobody seems to have the straight skinny on this.

So believe what you want to believe on this one until it really happens.

Sonenberg said a top priority is another TV gig. She has also been offered book deals, clothing lines and cosmetics brands.

-Anoop didn’t know who MJ was in this interview. MJ dubbed him “very polite, if a little prickly.” She got the “glare”! We also learn the “Idol” contracts end today and folks who are not signed up are free to do what they want starting tomorrow.

Honestly, the only “Idol’ person to really know my blog is Chris Sligh. Alas, I have to keep giving Chris props for that! :)

Dang… no third page today.

And no Paula for this season it seems. I’d be insulted if I found out the powers that be were asking others how much they thought I was worth.

I may be in left field here, but it seems like Paula’s manager is looking out for himself more than her. The more she makes, the more he takes. If she doesn’t have a contract with him (which she probably does), I would tell him to kiss off.

Saw this on FoxNews.com from Bo Bice:

Bice also chimed on on the continuing Paula Abdul controversy, and said “Idol” may take some knocks without Abdul at the judges table.

“If you took away Randy or you took away Paula or you took away Simon, you’re changing the dynamic of what made the show great,” Bice added. “I don’t think it could equally handle the loss on either end of which way the teeter tot goes, whether it be Simon or Paula. It’s like having a hit show, take Joey out of “Friends”… would it still be just as big of a hit?

So FOX doesn’t even accurately report what is going on with a FOX show, and as we saw a few days ago they even have inside access.

Why is Bo Bice talking about Friends, he knows that show stopped a few years ago right? (Sorry Lara)

I’m with you, linny. Way too much time on the judges and not enough on the contestants, and it keeps getting worse. They’ve already spoiled things by bringing the 4th judge in. Idol will never be the same, at least “for me.”

with regard to AI — cutting short how much the kids sing this past season really soured my experience — i’ve enjoyed the show a lot, been shocked, stunned, disappointed, ecstatic, bummed, blessed — by the talent and america’s choices, good or bad, for years — but this year we spent more time listening to bickering judges, playing judges, bantering with ryan — i don’t REALLY mind the audition phase so much when there is so much garbage shown (imho) but once the chaff has been culled and it’s supposed to be the “wheat” — let me enjoy the talent, instead of forcing me to wade through long stretches of BS… thank GOD for tivo/dvr/vhs or WHATever…. i’ve even gotten where i don’t blog “live” because i can’t stand the BS filler!!! i want to see TALENT (or sometimes lack thereof) so i can judge for MYSELF, not judge based on some crackpot’s commentary….hear me 19 & Fox…. If the powers that be REALLY want to screw up Idol… let’s bring back Dunkelman!

That would exponentially increase the amount of chit-chat between the judges & the emcees. They could cut back the number of contestants per episode (thereby extending the season and increasing ad revenue) and cut the number of contestants making the finals to allow for the increased talk.

After all… isn’t the chit-chat the reason we all turn in?

Paula: Aside from my belief that this whole thing is great publicity for Idol and Paula, I got to thinking of what Paula’s career is like right now. It is a big game of musical chairs, the music has stopped and her manager is yelling “don’t sit in that one, not that one either, keep going around.” Paula either isn’t going to get a chair or she is going to sit in the one that has an old peice of gum stuck to the seat.

Highlander, I agree with Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw completely. They are well-spoken, thoughtful men who would make incredibly good judges. Carly Simon and Stevie Nicks? I think they’d be more interested in themselves. Billy Joel would be a good choice, but he’d probably be shopping for another, younger wife from amongst the contestants. He’s kind of a sleazy old man now.

A few years ago we were at a restaurant in Augusta and we saw a young man in his Army BDUs. (Fort Gordon is close by.) I told our waitress to order an appetizer and deliver it to him and tell him that someone who wishes to remain anonymous wants to thank you for your service.

Out of the corner of my eye (I purposely didn’t look – so it wouldn’t appear that I was looking to see his reaction) I could see him looking around the restaurant trying to figure out who it was who sent it over.

It absolutely made my day!

As far as that silly little show we love (or love to hate), some of the suggested guest judges would sure be fun. John Rich, though, eh. Did anyone else see him judge on Nashville Star? That pretty much sums it up…

to John Rich, a big fat huge gigantic NO. When he “took over” NS, he RUINED the show. And his Going Country BS was so much THAT (BS)…

However, the lady (Anastasia?) that was on NS the first 2 years — now SHE could be a HUGE asset to the show in more ways than one — she KNOWS music, is very pretty (ok maybe sexy), very witty, very well-spoken.

Ted Nugent would be a HOOT!!! and a good COMMENTATOR to boot!

IF we have to have 4 COMMENTATORS during the voting portion of the show, then i suggest the 4th be the guest INSTEAD of “mentoring” (99% of the mentors DIDN’T truly mentor, they just commented, thus…) for that particular genre of music — Webber for Broadway, Nugent for Rock, Garth Brooks or Reba McIntyre or someone for Country — and when they don’t have a good guest use former idols…Kelly, Carrie, Kellie, Daughtry, Cookie, Melinda, etc etc

Adam Lambert, Adam Lambert, Adam Lambert – there, I mentioned an “Idol”, so I hope the rest of the post is not obliterated by the pacmen (as much trouble as we’re having, there’s got to be more than one). Just wanted to throw in a word or two abt “Project Runway” which started yesterday – with more DRAMA than ever before, and that already in the first episode. There’s a Georgia boy in the competish, from Savannah, and he almost got booted off thanks to a lying model.

AND, movie tip of the week – Quentin Tarantino’s unpleasant/exciting “Inglorioius Basterds”. Worth seeing for an amzing perf by unknown Austrian Christoph Waltz, which will give you nightmares – and him a chance at an Oscar next year. Plus, Brad Pitt is loads of fun.
