“Idol” still considering Paula Abdul’s price tag… via focus groups? Joe Jonas next guest judge

Radaronline reports that Fox is using focus groups to decide how much Paula Abdul is really worth to them.

And the latest guest judges? Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers is the next one in Dallas. There are talks about Kelly Clarkson doing a round, too. Recall that she did a mock “judging” of Randy Jackson season one during her first audition.

The L.A. Times and others have said “Idol” offered Abdul $5 million a year, a raise from her current $2 to $3 million but she wanted $10 million, comparable to Ryan Seacrest. “Idol” refused and she Tweeted earlier this month that it was over.

But since she has yet to commit to anything else yet, including “Dancing With the Stars,” it appears she is still willing to return at the right price.

Paula will not be seen in any of the early audition shows; that much is certain. The fourth judge for those outings will be the likes of Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige and Shania Twain. Although none of these guest judges is being considered as Paula’s replacement, video of them on the job will be used for comparison purposes with the focus groups.

And as we already know, “Idol” wants four judges, whether we prefer three or not. Why, I have no clue — except other “Idols” around the world use four.

I’d say the odds are increasing that Paula will be back.

And– cool beans! Here’s that Kelly Clarkson first audition where she goofs with Randy. Gotta love Simon’s hair in 2002! Kelly is incredibly charming, of course. She’d be a fun guest judge. Score!

-The latest Daughtry tour skips Atlanta. Here are the closest cities:

November 30 Gainesville, FL Stephen Connell Center
December 1 Tallahassee, FL Tallahassee County Civic Center
December 2 Pensacola, FL Pensacola Civic Center
December 4 Birmingham, AL BJCC Arena

Give Paula $6 mil and end the madness.

It’ll be interesting to see how – if she does return – how they deal with her absence during the auditions.

Rodney now you’re killing us, a picture of Joe Jonas? I might just stay on the last thread.

Thanks for all the info. My focus group has told me that Paula is not worth a focus group.

I like “Lady Lara”.
Can we have a guest judge who has been in the business and can sing?

Oh yeah, and a friend of mine said she read an interview with Brian May that mentioned Adam Lambert. That he had listened to a soundtrack he is singing on, 2012. Am I behind the news on this one?
May also said something about how very few other singers had turned him into jelly like AL – just Mercury, Steve Perry and Harry Nillson.

I wonder how much Idol will have to edit the rejected contestants post rejection commentary in order to coddle a JoBro. What person over the age of 17 can seriously take negative feedback from a Jonas brother? He certainly wouldn’t have made the cut on Idol.

Ugh. No. Please, no Jonases. I don’t think I can stomach it. Next thing you know they’ll bring on Miley Cyrus to guest judge.

Hmm… worst possible guest judges:
Britney Spears
Paris Hilton
William Huang (sp?)
Bikini Girl
Katy Perry (I’m sorry, she’s just vocally atrocious. She needs to stick to dance songs and stop yodeling ballads.)
Any political figure
Anyone from a “reality” show (The Hills, something about the Kardashians, and all the type)

Rickster, Dunkelman? Who dat? Is he related to Chuck Cunningham? ;)

Lissa, thanks for the horrible visuals! Miley? Bikini Girl? *shudder* I’ll have to go watch Carrie’s audition to clear my head. She totally won me with “I just clucked my way into American Idol. Yes, I did say cluck.” ;)

None of them are worth $10 million. Is it just me, or is our society upside down and spending money we don’t have on STUPID stuff. I love AI, but please. Judges should get paid about $1 million based on the money the show makes. Obama might spend our tax money to pay for it while he drives up the national debt even more.

Rickster

August 19th, 2009
12:02 pm

Boots… society can spend $10 million on a judge because enough people watch the show – partly due to the judges – to make advertisers think it worthwhile to pay big bucks.

The government is the one that spends money it doesn’t have – hence the 1-2 TRILLION dollar deficit we’re currently running.

Lissa

August 19th, 2009
12:06 pm

You can thank Fox, Coca-Cola, Ford, and AT&T and all the other advertisers for those salaries. If they weren’t willing to spend $$$ to get their ads seen during the highest rated show on TV, then they couldn’t afford to pay those mega-salaries.

JTesla

“spending money we don’t have on STUPID stuff” actually they do have the money. It may still be stupid stuff, but it is also their money, they can spend it on what they want. $1 million per judge is nothing for AI.

For the other discussion: I’d take Miley over a JoBro.

Lissa! The assignment was “who would you like to see as a guest judge”, not “who would be awful as a guest judge”! Great list, however. May I add my two favorites from the “bite the hand that feeds you” club, Kathryn Heigl and Megan Fox……not that any of the guys on here would mind being bitten by either one of them.

Aw heck, there I go again! Seriously, can you tell it’s time for hubby to get home from his latest trip to Moscow? Somebody needs to smack me up side the head to get my brain back on track!

After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York Scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their
ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, a San Diego, California archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a story in the LA Times read: “California archaeologists, finding traces of 200 year old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers”.

One week later, The Atlanta Journal, a local newspaper in Atlanta, GA reported the following: After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Blairsville, GA Bubba Brown, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, GA had already gone wireless.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will appear in a back-to-school television special with singer Kelly Clarkson and basketball star LeBron James next month.

Obama is appearing in a 30-minute documentary that will air at 8 p.m. Sept. 8 on BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, Comedy Central, Spike TV and Nickelodeon, all of them Viacom networks. Obama also plans to deliver a back-to-school speech to the nation’s students on the same day.

I think it’s safe to say that the justice system that we have inherited is messed up.

While we are on taboo topics, but less taboo than putting a Jonas brother on Idol: I think it is time for a revolution, and not for the reasons you might think. People have been provided with so much comfort here that they attack the very foundation that supports that comfort. For too long the realities of human behavior have been kept in check by the established system, and it seems that many on different sides of the political spectrum have forgotten that.

I might be going off the deep end, but some people need to be shipped off to other parts of the world in order to see that there really are people out there that won’t respect all the things that people here feel they are entitled to.

I can’t take credit for being the first person to say this, but I have it on good authority that the world will end on December 31, 2009, because that is the last day on my calendar. Make a movie about that!

Heather, the belated answer to your question is half & half. Scot-Irish, and the Scot only comes first because it sounds better. (Actually more Irish in the lineage.) But the Scots and the Irish co-mingled and helped each other in fights against the English for hundreds of years.

Today’s Quote: “A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.”

Okay, what is today’s subject(s) gonna be, along with AI of course? I think we pretty much covered a wide variety of topics yesterday.

On Access Hollywood last night, a short segment with Simon showed him stating that he does miss Paula and that they have lost the heart of Idol. He said that she was very much the heart of the show and they need it back. Does this sound like there is a chance she will be back? I think so.

Nana, I think Simon genuinely gets along with Paula and genuinely misses her presence. I’ve never thought he got along with Kara all that well, so I would think Simon will have his way and Paula will be back. Just a guess, but I think that Simon’s word has a lot of pull at AI.
Highlander, thanks for the belated answer. May I still go by Lady Heather? LOL And, SpongeBob would be a terrible judge. He has water on the brain, you know. :-)
