Profane “Idol” tryout gal killed in hit and run

Alexis Cohen, who made an impression in early 2008 with her profane post-”Idol” audition tirade, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Seaside Heights, N.J. Saturday night, according to the Allentown Morning Call.

She was a skinny rocker with ’80s style hair and eyeliner. She was very entertaining as a personality and oddly likable. “Idol” gave her seven minutes of airtime during season seven — deservedly so.

“Always have true faith, always be victorious,” she said cheerfully. She said she had been compared to Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. She did “Somebody to Love.” She wasn’t half bad but it was merely an imitation of Slick.

She was very polite during the audition but once rejected, she got really angry at Simon. “How dare he look at me so smug?” she said to Ryan. Then she added, “Why do I feel like giving the camera the finger. Then she started giving the finger, both fingers, to said camera. Grabbing her butt, she turned around and said, “Kiss my @@@!” adding, “If I could legally moon ya, I would!”

It’s still very funny. Even the satanic tongue wagging.

Here’s the YouTube video, seen more than 128,000 times:

She even came back earlier this year with a new hair style and mellower attitude pretending to be all “nice.” Then after they rejected her again, she gave them the double middle finger act. Three more minutes of fame seen here:

I always felt sorry for this girl. She was just kind of sad to watch with her foul-mouthed bravado and her insistence that she could sing. During her most recent audition, she looked like she “got it”. She seemed more in on the joke than she did before. Still…sad girl who came to a sad end.

Will Rodney Ho ever learn to write professionally? Rodney, who do you have pictures of? Sorry, I guess I’m not pretending to be all “nice”.

Shouldn’t that be “of whom do you have pictures”?

No, it should be “whom do you have pictures of.” That preposition “rule” is nonsense invented by a Victorian poet and enforced by grade school teachers. There are too many obvious exceptions to claim it’s a “rule” of English.

Anyway, too bad about this gal. I never saw her on Idol, and her 15 minutes were probably up, but it’s sad to see someone die so young.

mike, while I kind of agree with you about the preposition rule…the “obvious exemptions” come from years and years of ignoring the rule to the point that very few grade school teachers enforce it any more. But, I digress…the actual point wasn’t the rule itself but the self-appointed grammar police failing to adhere to the standards he has decided Rodney does not meet.

Does anyone remember the “redneck at Harvard” joke?

A Georgia redneck is accepted at Harvard. On his first day there, hopelessly lost, he stops a professor on the Common and asks, “Excuse me, but can you tell me where the English building’s at?”
The professor looks him up and down with disdain and replies, “Young man, at Harvard, we never end a sentence with a preposition.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” says the redneck, “can you tell me where the English building’s at, a$$hole?!”

Happy Monday Morning Everybody…………

Today’s Quote: “The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.”

I picked today’s quote in memory of Alexis Cohen. She had a goal to reach for but was unable to reach it. What a tragic way to die at such an early age. My heartfelt condolances to her family and friends.

Good morning all! Nana, both of us know about not being promised tomorrow and learning to take advantage of today. I hope Alexis was able to find some joy in “today,” and not focus her life after Idol on regrets.

Happy Monday, y’all…

It was quite heartbreaking to hear about Alexis’ death. She was entertaining and oddly amusing during her auditions. My thoughts go to her family, to them, she was more than just a blurb on a TV show…

In lighter news, (and because of my SN), did y’all see the whole “controversy” with Kelly’s latest single? I did see the video, and while it’s not exactly what they envisioned, she looks stunning. ;)

harriett, you are right about not being promised tomorrow. None of us are promised our next breath. I only hope that Alexis handled her disappointments in life in a positive manner. Each and everyone has their disappointments and losses and how you handled them will tell alot about you. A positive outlook on anything will make one a better and stronger human being.

So sorry to hear about this poor child’s death. She was never one of the auditioners I found amusing because she was so desperate and sad, but her end was tragic. I hope she’s at peace now.

i know i said that Alexis was oddly compelling, not my type of person, but still compelling in a dark kind of way … my condolences

K&C, what controversy? i didn’t hear anything, but then i sort of worked all weekend and didn’t watch much ‘entertainment’ …

my darn dvr is up to 70% full, because we’ve been too busy to watch anything… will have to spend some quality time with the tube!

bachelor finale tonight? i didn’t watch the reunion show, but did read about some of it in what’s his name’s blog… (the host) … he explained a lot of stuff there, and it kept me from having to watch the male soap opera! but i am curious to see which she will chose. i canNOT believe i just said that!!!

Um…I’m pretty sure wasn’t naughty, lol, I did say she looked stunning in the Already Gone video, but that was it. I promise… ;)

I was just summarizing for you the whole debacle. Seems she is having issues with the label. She was against them releasing Already Gone because it sounds so similar to Beyonce’s Halo. Out of respect to her, she didn’t want it to come out. Which, I respect, if only because it also makes it seem like she copied Beyonce. Long story short(er): Both worked with Ryan Tedder on these songs. Some rumors claim that Halo was originally offered to Leona Lewis, but she passed on it, and Beyonce picked it up. The other rumors are that Kelly and Ryan were working on AG when Ryan had a meeting with Beyonce. During the meeting, he played her his “works in progress,” and she liked Already Gone and asked him for something similar.

Kelly went on to say that she wasn’t aware of Halo until it was released as a single. This explains the behind the scenes clip she shot after performing the single on Letterman and saying she changed it so it “sounds less like Halo” with a pretty sarcastic laugh. The whole thing is just lame, I don’t know that Kelly should’ve come out saying that she fought not to have the song released. I understand that it’s her nature to speak her mind, but she could just end up making herself look bad.

That said, I don’t get why the label was so insistent on releasing such a similar sounding song. If they wanted to cash in on the Tedder connection, they could’ve released If I Can’t Have You. I honestly don’t get them releasing a ballad in the summer. I would’ve waited until the fall for that, even then, I’d say that Cry would be a better choice as her vocals on that song are amazing. IMO, the next single should’ve been If I Can’t Have You, or All I Ever Wanted. I would say Long Shot has potential, but it’s another Katy Perry song, and would’ve been too much.

She really just needs to go her own way, and find a label that will let her do what she wants. It’s not like the girl can’t sing. She’s really just not going to be the “pop princess” they’re looking for. Not only is that really not her, but she’s in her late 20s….she’s not going to be Britney or Avril or even Pink. She doesn’t need to be. But what do I know? I’m just a fan… ;)
