Ken Warwick, “Idol” show producer, gets new deal

kenwarwick01

Ken Warwick, the show producer who stuck around after Nigel Lythgoe left, is going to be around another three years, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The story says he’ll be making well into the eight figures.

Overall, his performance on his own was a mixed bag.

Warwick has been with the show since 2002 but was running the show minus Nigel Lythgoe for the first time. His biggest strike against him? He had a hard time keeping the show on time last season. He also cleared the fourth judge and that “save” option. For many, those are major strikes against him.

But at least he made the results show more entertaining by nixing the awful Q&A section season seven. He also split the screaming sorority girls in front of the stage into two sections and placed a ramp between the singers and the judges. That worked.

He brought back the semifinal stage and expanded the no. of people to 36 from 24. That was a wash to me. He also added more episodes in Hollywood. That was good.

MJ said she misses Nigel. I do, too.

-Danny Gokey is telling his fans to please get along with Adam Lambert’s, according to mtv.com.

“There’s a lot of made-up stories about how me and Adam are behind the scenes, like, punching each other and fighting. And me and Adam are like, ‘Uh, hi, guys! We’re buddies! We’re cool!’ ” Gokey insisted.

Seems like everyone is getting new deals except Paula. I’d be worried if I were her.

Rodney, IMO the minuses outweigh the plusses by far for this guy! I do hope he goes to Nigel for some advice next season. Thanks, as always, for keeping us up on all things Idol.

Yeah, I just looked back and saw Nana said TGIF at 6:34am…..boy that’s too early to be working already.

Ugg 3 more years with this clown? I’d rather they signed Paula for 3 years then sign the guy who can’t run the show.

BTW SYTYCD is now the worst show ever. I watched about 10 minutes of Wednesdays show and saw someone that could get me to watch the show week after week, and yes it was mostly because she was hot, but she was talented too. Last night they gave her the boot? WTH? That show is jacked up!

Dang… I guess I wasn’t first. But Paula still needs to be worried!

If four judges kept the show going long, and you’ve got three judges already under contract… Paula’s as vulnerable as a baby zebra that’s strayed too far from its mommy.

Thanks for pointing out Ken Warwick’s plusses, Rodney. I agree that he did make some improvements. Now if he would just listen to the fans!

1. Quit making the show about the judges! It isn’t!

2. Get rid of the 4th judge. At this point, I don’t care who goes as long as Simon stays.

3. Give us more time to see the singers during the semifinals. You can keep the wildcard but let us hear the others sing more than once.

4. Give the audience a wildcard. Once the field has been narrowed to the semifinalists, let the audience vote on a choice of maybe 3 or 4 who the judges nixed.

5. Keep the mosh pit unobtrusive and NEVER let a contestant sing in it!

6. Consider the possibility of limiting the voting. No other show has allegations of cheating because they limit their votes. No other show allows one fan group to overpower another because they limit their votes. Try it, you might like it.

JT? I don’t see your side of the SYTYCD comment, but hey! i still love ya! I too want Nigel back. I have SO much respect for him in both his producer status on AI and SYTYCD, and as a Commentator/Judge on SYTYCD. HEY! Wonder if he could take Randy’s place…. nahhhhhh never work!

Katie Holmes. If that was “Dancing” then I’m good enough to be a pro! at 61!!! I mean. ONE freaking sort-of-high kick, strut back and forth with the model-swagger… be lifted by a bunch of strong guys… and LIP SYNC …. PUHleeeeze. That was just. stupid. I appreciate her support/sponsorship in the scholarship foundation they’ve started but please, give.me.a.break.

thanks for letting me vent!

I would rather Janine than Janette go home, but otherwise, not terribly surprised at the results. Ade might have been in danger, but that wonderful BC piece saved his skin for another week. And Jason’s solo WAS imho very very weak wednesday night. sort of random, disconnected, imho.

anywho…

time to work!!! catch you guys later!

oh, they’re, i believe 6 and 8 — haven’t met them yet. looking very much forward to it. THey already told their mom it was “okay to date” my son, LOL. Announcement not until September, so i am having to lay low a bit longer…

Another thanks to you Rodney. You really keep us informed and for that, we appreciate you even more.

Frankly, IMO, Ken Warwick can’t produce on his own. Nigel was the force to reckon with and this past season showcased it very well. Ken needs help if he wants to keep it moving within the time slot allowed. Do away with the 4th judge and the save. For his changes, which wasn’t good ones (at least most), he is getting a mere 8 figure salary? Go figure.

Woodpappy, I know that 6:34 is much to early to be at work, but when you have to leave home at 4:30, well, what can I say? One day, I plan to retire, maybe next March. At least, that’s my goal.

Anyone up to OSF?

I have a better suggestion, linny, Ken Warwick assistant producer, Deirdre main AI producer; those were some darn good points for improvements.

As for Portland, the restaurants are fabulous – have eaten at three excellent ones – and even pizza deliveries (no chain) offer great goodies.

Linny, I personally liked the Katie Holmes number. Thought she looked elegant and sounded fantastic. She really does sing well, and I wish she’d get more roles where we get to hear her. Frankly, the part she was doing didn’t require a lot of “fancy dancing.” I’d like to see her doing Dancing with the Stars and really show her stuff. Okay, I guess I’ve now proven myself to be a Katie Holmes fan. Have loved her since Dawson’s Creek. I’m a geek.

We’re all geeks for somebody, Heather. I’ve always liked Katie, too but felt that her song and dance was much ado about nothing. However, kudos to her for putting it out there in the name of a good cause.

I didn’t watch much of last nights show, but started mid interview with Katie. I didn’t recognize her until they flashed her name on the screen prior to her number. She looks good I guess, but I thought she looked better a few years back. I’d probably have more of an opinion, but with Janette being given the boot SYTYCD is now dead to me. Sure I only watched 20 minutes the whole season, but it is dead none the less.

Well I would have suggested D produce, but you know how greedy those hollywood types are *******ducking*******

no, seriously, if the producers read the blogs around the country (or rather had their staff read them, obviously) and compile a list of gripes and a list of kudos, first of all the gripes would be a much longer list after this past year, and second of all, they MIGHT actually learn something. D’s points are extremely relevant. But if i had to boil it down to One Area of change, it would be Collectively, the Judge situation — only 3 not 4 please, and less time ON the judges — Nigel said it best. It’s NOT about the freaking Judges, it’s about the contestants, so get the cameras and mics off the judges and let the contestants compete, for heaven’s sake!

Oh, i give kudos to KH for supporting the kids, the new charity/scholarship foundation and all — but i didn’t think she was DANCING…. and frankly, i didn’t like the singing, sorry Heather. It was obviously a “canned” performance

Nana

Gosh darn it!!!! Hate that I missed SYTYCD last night. I wanted to see KH, but from what I’m reading, I didn’t miss alot. I’m suprised and shocked that Janette got the boot. I thought she was one of the best dancers, much better than Janine.

TGIF, y’all!

Aw, little Joey Potter….Heather, I loved her back then, but I don’t know what happened to her. Once she got married and had her daughter, she AGED! I mean, she looks to me like she aged about 15 years in 2. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but…her “look” makes her seem older than even someone like Jennifer Garner who is 7 yrs older. As far as the performance, well, I have not see it yet…but clearly, that doesn’t stop me from commenting.

Oh, and agreed. D, can Mr. Hollywood get you an interview for the Idol producer job? ‘Cause if America (i.e. this blog) votes…you are hired! ;)

Finallt got to see the Katie Holmes video – without sound, so I can’t comment on her singing ability. As for her “dancing”, this is the kind of eager pony stomp Tyra encourages her runway contestants to try for if they want to be America’s Next Top Model.

Sad news Idol Fans. Our ‘favorite’ Audition Show regular, Alexis Cohen, she of the double finger saulte and “Suck it Simon” Suck it suck it” fame has been killed after being hit by a hit and run driver in New Jersey. She was 25.
