Daughtry at No. 1, Ryan Seacrest doing a local charity event

Daughtry debuted at No. 1 on the album charts, selling 269,000 copies. That’s pretty good nowadays, down a bit from his first album debut of 304,000 in 2006 but not by much.

He ended the three-week run by Michael Jackson.

His single “No Surprise” is on the verge of hitting the CHR top 20 but is no “It’s Not Over” or “Home” in terms of chart impact.

Brooke White’s album debuted on digital only last week and sold almost 10,000 copies, twice as many as Michael Johns.

Ryan Seacrest will be back in his hometown briefly in October for a charity event, the Hearts and Hands Gala, benefiting Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities. It’s set for Oct. 24 at the World of Coca-Cola. Jennifer Brett, our “social butterfly,” reported this a few days back and I only now remembered to report it. I can’t ascertain the cost of buying individual tickets though sponsorships start at $2,500.

Good for Daughtry, from what I have read it looks to be a safe album, but sometimes safe is good. That second release is sometimes the hardest.

Brooke who?

Any chance of a Ryan interview Rodney?

I like Brooke and I’m glad she’s doing well too, but suffice it to say that she was fortunate Michael Jackson didn’t pass away the week her album was released. To compare her first week sales against Michael Johns sales, whose album was released two days before the King of Pop died is unfair in my opinion.

Maybe Rodney can do the sponsorship thing (we know you make the big AJC bucks, Mr. Ho) and send JT to do an interview with Ryan…wouldn’t that be cool?

And what the foghorn (thanks Jordin) is Brooke White thinking doing an album? She nearly spontaneously combusted each week at the slightest hint of criticism. And how she did stop talking long enough to listen to her producer, unless she produced the cd herself???

Brooke > Michael Johns. What happened to all the drooling females who put MJ w/ Daughtry and Jennifer as an early boot who’d star post AI? Both Davids and Jason beat him in female voting and his female following was solid, but not nearly as massive as his fans believed just like Constantine. Plus Daughtry pwned the Soul Patrollers who said he would flop on forum after forum online.

Good Morning everybody!!!!!!

Today’s Quote: “Be who you say you are, and say what you feel…..because those that matter, don’t mind….and those that mind, don’t matter.”

Kudos to Daughery and Brooke. May both do well in sales. Ryan attending the Hearts and Hands Gala speaks well of him. The Ronald McDonald House does so much good for children suffering from illness and their families.

Morning!

Happy to hear that Daughtry is doing well.

I’m waiting for my insurance inspector to show up. Remember awhile back I had a storm with large hail and my umbrella disappeared. Well, my roof was also damaged from the hail and we’re working on getting a settlement from the insurance company.

Here’s a quote about Daughtry’s success that I found on Yahoo.:

Daughtry’s sophomore album, Leave This Town, enters The Billboard 200 at #1. This makes the band’s leader, Chris Daughtry, the first American Idol alumnus to land back-to-back #1 albums. Daughtry rang the bell for two weeks in early 2007. Kelly Clarkson is the only other Idol alum to notch two #1 albums, and hers weren’t consecutive. She topped the chart with her first and fourth albums. This obviously makes Chris Daughtry the first Idol alum who didn’t win the competition to land two #1 albums. (Clay Aiken is the only other non-winner to land a #1 album, though Adam Lambert is likely to join this little club.)

I think Daughtry’s new CD is weak. Not nearly as strong as the 1st CD and not NEARLY as good as Kelly’s newest CD.

Good morning. IMO, I don’t think folks who buy Kelly’s albums are the same ones who buy Daughtry’s, so there is really no comparison. I am thrilled for both of them.

Good mornin’, y’all…

I haven’t had a chance to check out Leave This Town yet, No Surprise is a fairly decent single, but it sort of feels like more of the same. I’m hoping the rest of the album offers something a tad different. My fave “Idol” (even tho I haven’t seen her as that in ages…I know, sue me ;) ) album of the year, so far, is Kelly’s. Y’all can ask me on Nov 3rd if I still feel the same.

D, that’s interesting that about him landing back-to-back albums. But I think a lot of that is due to the fact that he DIDN’T win…and he formed a band, instead of going the “solo” route. I don’t know that everyone always associates him with Idol, other than those of us who watched, of course. Who knows. But I’m surprised that Carrie’s not on there at all.

I would have thought that Carrie would be in that group as well k&cfan. BTW, a great big welcome back.

Was travelling all day yesterday and missed fun posts on divas… not to flog a dead horse, but I always assumed “diva” was a word with bad connotations – the first time I heard it used as a positive was on American Idol, on Jennifer Hudson’s season.

Portland, Ore is a beautiful city, with a great, lively downtown, and free streetcar service!

I agree k&cf, about Daughtry forming a band and heading out on his own. Besides, his first album was a big hit so those fans will be out buying his second as well. And I’m surprised that Carrie wasn’t mentioned either

Mercedes…will you and JT be meeting for lunch. ;-) ? I’ve never been to Portland but I think I would probably enjoy it there.

The only explanation is I’m guessing that the country albums are treated differently? ‘Cause in the country charts, Carrie has pretty much dominated. Some Hearts is well over 6.5mil and Carnival Ride is around 3mil…those are some pretty impressive numbers. And actually, wouldn’t that really make Some Hearts the best selling Idol Album ever (in the US at least)so far?

Mercedes Portland is awesome, but I’m a bit biased.

If you are looking for things to do, and have a day to kill, I strongly suggest a trip to the gorge along the Old Columbia River Highway. It’s the perfect place to be when it is hot. Of course the coast is great too. For downtown Portland Powell’s books can’t be beat in my mind.

JT, thanks for suggestions! Youngest son (this is a family reunion with 25 people involved) went to Powell’s last night and we all plan to go there. Outing to Mt. St Helens planned – lava tunnel on web site looks awesome. Off to Zoo at 10. Agree about weirdness of Carrie missing from list feats.

The America I love: went to pick up rental car (not ready), continued walk around block, husband noticed pawnshop, walked in to check out availability of guitars (airline stole his), found some, played “Wildwood Flower” one one, fellow customer walked up, said, “I knew the lady who wrote that song” (June Carter Cash); talk abt the Cash family and The Movie ensued, (our new friend Dale, now of Florence, OR, formerly Nashville, is best buds with a Cash son), we have now been invited to lunch Saturday in a pretty coastal town, had a personalized map made for us about the best of Coastal Oregon – and hubby got a brand new used guitar!

Mercedes, my sister has lived in Beaverton (suburb of Portland) for the past 30 yrs, and I have been out there many times to visit.
I think the Pacific NW is absolutely beautiful! So green and lusch. You must see the waterfalls along the Columia River…one after another, some you can walk up to and under. I could go on and on…..

Heather, in a word, yes. MD was, to me, just beautiful…I honestly like albums that you can feel a special connection to the artist, where you can tell the arstist is singing something they completely believe or went through. To me, there’s a different level of attachment to a song when you know it comes from the person singing it, rather than “words put into their mouths.” Not to say that there aren’t people who can’t sing amazingly songs that were written for them, but…

To me, MD was very personal, raw and completely relatable. Honestly, if you look at the early reviews, before the so-called drama with the label and Clive Davis were blown out of proportion, the reviews were actually pretty good. But then, the problems with getting the CD released and the supposed clash between Kelly and Clive, comments made, etc. completely took the focus away from the music. The label completely dropped any promotion for it after releasing Sober as a single, and it faded into obscurity in the states. Interestingly, they never shot a video for it, and only released Don’t Waste Your Time as an international singgle. Before all the “bad press,” Never Again actually peaked at # 8 in the Hot 100. Sadly, the whole fiasco tarnished her image a lot, but…Clive is no longer holding the same position, and Kelly promptly fired The Firm. I’ll stop there…

…they don’t call me a Kelly fan for nothing, should’ve warned you. ;)

Add, oddly enough, Sober was the weakest track on the CD. My favorite, by a mile, is the “hidden track.” BEST. DANG. SONG. EVER!

Great story Mercedes. Being friendly has its rewards (sometimes).

Almost time to clean up my desk and head home, sooooooooo, everyone have a great evening, be safe, be happy, and keep a song in your heart, a smile on your face, and a tap in your toes. Always be careful when on the highways.

Before I forget, last night on SYTYCD, they had two songs by idols, Kris Allen and Jordin Sparks. Thought that was pretty impressive.

linny, sounds interesting and exciting. Harm? I noticed the songs, too. I was just like the judges last night–blown completely away by Ade and Melissa’s dance re: breast cancer patient. AGT brought some really, really good talent last night. I loved the 9 year old who sang At Last.

Carrie’s “Some Hearts” peaked at #2, while “Carnival Ride” went to #1. Kelly has had 2 #1 cd’s (just have a hard time calling them albums anymore) but Chris D. is definitely the first AI alumnus to have 2 back-to-back #1 cd’s.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-selling_American_Idol_alumni for a complete listing. It seems to be fairly current.

Thanks for that link…Interesting that the top two best seller are Some Hearts and Breakaway, yet neither one was #1. Breakaway was actually #3.

lol, JT, talking Idol…weird, huh?

Heather, I actually liked Sober, but yes, Chivas is pretty much brilliant. It was worth it if only for her intro whenever she’s performed it.

Morning!

Nana, Jason and Jeanette were eliminated.

Here’s a quote from Nigel Lythgoe when asked if he would tap-dance again on SYTYCD(read the whole quote, it’s Idol-related…honest!)

“I don’t think so,” he said. Lythgoe, who was an executive producer of “American Idol” for its first seven seasons, continued: “I firmly believe that we should be in the background: The focus should be on the kids in the competition. Last year on ‘American Idol,’ the judges went into the spotlight a little bit. Thank goodness Adam Lambert and some of the other kids were talented enough to wrest the spotlight back onto them at the end of the season.”

I WANT NIGEL BACK!!!!!!!!!

I agree, D and Nana! Nigel rules! He’s the voice of reason without question.

On SYTYCD Janette and Jason went home. Janette was a shock because Mia loved her and said she was her favorite. But, Evan just keeps on having more lives than a cat. The voting public adore him.
