Michael Johns at Tin Roof Cantina Friday; Idol gets 8 Emmy nominations

Former Buckhead man Michael Johns from season seven is stopping by his old stomping grounds Tin Roof Cantina Friday evening at 7 p.m. He will do a meet and greet and play some tunes. He’s also going to be on Q100 that morning.

Tin Roof was the spot where his buds would watch the show every week last year. He worked in Buckhead for years earlier this decade, pre “Idol,” including Tin Roof Cantina. The restaurant/bar is on Briarcliff off North Druid Hills.

Johns has talked about moving back to Atlanta at some point in the future.

- “Idol” received eight Emmy nominations. There are two that really matter. “Idol” is up for outstanding reality program, the one the show loses every year to “The Amazing Race.” Ryan Seacrest is up again as best host in a reality program. Jeff Probst of Survivor won last year, the first year the category existed.

-MJ has the concert revenues for the first six concerts. It’s too early to make fair comparisons to the past few seasons but it’s looking to be slightly weaker than last year in terms of revenues and attendance.

I know that you have spoken to him several times in the past, but is there another chance for a Michael Johns interview? Or a tennis match? Challenge him Rodney! You can take him.

I’m not surprised about the early concerts being down a bit, this years hype doesn’t really compare to the David vs. David hype of last year.

I’m very glad that Topsy is improving! Nana, Little Ceasar’s dog food almost killed my dog a couple of years ago, not because it was defective or anything though, it was because he was allergic to it.

I’ve been doing my best to keep up with all the discussed shows on here. I like the 9 year old guitar player on AGT and I watched some of SYTYCD, not prepared to pick a winner, haven’t got to watch enough.

Harm, just as I was about to concede the season on SYTYCD to Brandon, Jason wowed ‘em last night. Ade’ did well, too. And, the girls were all very good. I think Evan and Randi will be the next ones to go. I like him, but the judges find something wrong with his performance every week, and he doesn’t seem like he’s grown much.

Harriett, unfortunately I’m in agreement regarding Evan and Randi, and i love both of them. I thought Evan’s solo was simply fantastic but then I’ve always been a Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, etc. Lover in the first degree. I used to want to BE Ginger Rogers! And Randi just seemed sort of lackluster last night :-(

So exciting that Michael is getting a chance to play at The Tin Roof again… I love Michael’s new CD “Hold Back My Heart” He is such an amazing talent… Can’t wait to see him on Tour in September. Hope everyone comes out he is such a great live performer!!!

linny, I agree about Evan. I love him, too, but technique and artistry-wise, he is miles behind the others. I hate to see him go, too, and agree that Randi was just sort of lackluster. I disagreed with Nigel–she was the weak link in the Bollywood girl’s dance. My eyes kept going to her as they were dancing. She wasn’t up with the rest of them, IMO.

But, linny, Evan seems to have lots of fan support, and that’s what counts this week. We shall see tonight!

Morning.

Today’s Quote: “Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.”

Rodney, a very good picture of Michael Johns. Real good eye candy. Thanks for posting it and the report on him.

I think Brandon and Melissa will be the top two on SYTYCD. After Randi stumbled Wednesday, I wasn’t suprised that she went home last night. On AGT, so far my faves are the little guitar player and the female opera singer. I will have to say that the 8 y/o girl who played the piano and sung Proud Mary wasn’t bad, given her age.

Morning everyone! Nana, I am surprised Melissa was in the bottom two last night, and love it that Evan survived. I think he has gotten a lot of fan support with his likeability. His dancing is wonderful, but not up to the level of Brandon, IMO. I think they got it right last night, but am worried Melissa might not be coming across as likeable as some of the others, and it will cost her votes. I do think she is far and away the best female dancer, however. As for AGT, I am in a wait-and-see mode, without having a favorite right now.

Morning!

My kid is still here and I’ve been busy with him. His best friend arrived in town last night so they will be having a good time until they both leave on Sunday. Because of the full house, I have found it difficult to sit down and watch anything on TV. I will probably have a lot of catching up to do next week.

In the meantime, I have to express my displeasure over an Emmy nomination involving American Idol. Normally, I think the show deserves every nomination it gets…until this year when the director…the same director who could not bring the show in on time if his life depended on it…the same director who thinks we actually watch the show to hear what the judges have to say…has been nominated for best director of a musical/variety show. :-p~~~~~~~~~~

Well, Evan is my personal fave, but I know he’s not going to take it all unless he suddenly finds a new level — Brandon is my “other” fave guy, and I agree, I think he’ll take it all. Melissa IS my fave gal, but I think Kayla has a real shot at this one, trying to be objective. ANd I have to say, Jason and … is it Janette or Janine? — really showed a whole ‘nother level this week. I really didn’t like her that much before (the one that was with Phillip first half of the show)

So I’m thinking Brandon and Kayla.

Don’t worry, D. I’m sure Idol will get the snub from the Emmy’s again this year. It’s only the most watched, highest rated show on TV, right? I’m sure there’s no jealousy in the industry going on there.

And I’ll bet Jeff Probst would rather have Ryan’s contract than the Emmy. To me, his win last year was a joke. After all, he ‘hosts’ a taped show where any mistakes can be edited out or re-shot! Ryan doesn’t have that luxury.

I definitely agree with D regarding the director’s nomination, though! Makes one wonder about the overall intelligence (or validity) of the Emmy nomination process, doesn’t it?

Topsy Report – Day 6 — She woke me up this morning barking — trying to play with the cat, who of course wants NOTHING to do with that! She went out for a short walk, bouncy, yippy, curious…tale wagging all along… came in…at a small amount of food…

sooooooooooo ***fingers crossed*** she’s skinny as can be but maybe on the road to recovery?

thanks for all the emotional.mental.psychic support, gang!!!

Great news about Topsy! She’ll be eating soon. Scarlett had a terrible week with vomiting and diarrhea when she was about 4 months old. We never did find out the cause. And Maggie wouldn’t eat for a week until she passed what was left of a large hickory nut. sometimes you just never know what they’ve gotten into. Happy to hear that she’s getting back to her old self.

Glad to hear better news about your pup. I grew up with dogs but have become a confirmed cat lover. We were down 3 just over a year ago when our last boy died at 22. (!) So I know the kind of worry that comes from a sick pet/family member. We’re up 2 now with twin sister calicoes.

And speaking of family members, hope you mom is well now, Deirdre. And Nana, I hope you dad is doing better.

On a much lighter note, I have to give a shout-out to Heather M. for her 9:27am post on the previous thread! LMAO. I really love the sense of humor and quick wit of the bloggers here. It’s refreshing to read (and post to) a blog where everyone isn’t down each other’s throats all the time. (Some of the other blogs I’ve seen get very tedious that way.)

I can usually count on this blog for a smile, a chuckle now and then, or an out-right laff. Especially if JT or Neg are posting! And getting retorts from the ladies!

By the way, where in the world IS Diego Gar-Negster, anyway??

Highlander…been there, done that(the “down each other’s throats” routine). We like it better this way. :-)

Our dear Negativo seems to be popping in only during the late-night hours and only briefly. If Rodney posts a picture of Haley Scarnato, we’ll be hearing from him more often.

And I agree that Heather has become a welcome addition to out blog family!

And mom is on the mend…thanks for asking.

Time to wrap up my day here at the office.

Everyone have a great week-end, and remember to keep a song in your heart, a smile on your face and a tap in your toes. Keep people guessing why you have that smile. As as always, be careful and safe when on the roads.

Catch everyone later……….

Bye, Nana. Have a great weekend. I am leaving early today myself. I am going to Charlotte just for the night. My elderly aunt wants me to take her to the farmers mkt in the morning, and you know I never turn down a chance to buy fresh veggies myself. So, I will sign off for today, too. Enjoyed the week with all of you, and I hope your weekends are great.

Michael Johns Cd is fantastic! He has so much talent. I hope to see him in concert someday. So many talented artists are from down under The Bee Gees, Keith Urban (moved there as a child). Russell Crowe, Missy Huggins, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and now Michael Johns.
