Ryan Seacrest nears new megadeal with “Idol,” Kara DioGuardi gets married

How much do you think Ryan Seacrest should make per year to host "Idol"?

Dunwoody High School grad Ryan Seacrest is nearing a new contract to host “Idol” for three more years, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The pact, which is believed to be for three years, will give Seacrest a major pay raise and make him one of the highest-paid reality hosts on television. He made slightly less than $5 million this season for his work on “Idol,” which breaks down to about $100,000 per episode.

Seacrest may also work on a series with “Idol” creator Simon Fuller, the story says.

Somehow, I forgot to mention that Kara DioGuardi got married. She still hasn’t signed a new deal with “Idol.”

The talent competition’s freshest face married general contractor Mike McCuddy Sunday in Prospect Harbor, Maine, E! News confirms.

-MJ reports that Michael Johns and Brooke White are set to tour together in August, though the schedule shows they are not coming anywhere near Atlanta.

It’s smart for “Idols” to tour in combo. What other combos would work? Would it be smarter for such combos to be from the same season? Just food for thought on a sleepy Friday morning…

-The So You Think You Can Dance tour comes to the Gwinnett Arena October 20. Will link ticket info when it comes out. (It’s not listed yet on Ticketmaster.)

-AP also reports that Orlando drew about 9,000 auditioners, not as much as Atlanta but more than Boston.

Thanks Rodney — interesting news tidbits there. Speaking of SYTYCD — I felt the judges made a mistake letting the blonde (Kayla?) go last night and keeping Janine (the brunette). I figured Philip would be eliminated, but I’m kind of sorry to see him go, because I wanted to see how much MORE he could grow — a year ago, if you will remember, he was virtually a bedroom popper, with NO exposure. The lad found a partner, learned to BE a partner, and has done quite well, I think, learning to truly dance. Having said that, I really don’t think any of the OTHER guys deserved to go, with the possible exception of Jason, who, while a great performer in his own right, and cute as a button, really hasn’t shown a lot of growth in my opinion. And Evan, as much as i love him, needs to “tighten up” and learn to, as Tice says, get down into the floor with his movement. But all in all I think we’re in for some exciting dancing over the next few weeks.

And speaking of dance, has anyone seen Marissa’s “Dance your A$$ Off” competition? It’s a combination weight loss, learn to dance show, with judges and scores combined percentage of weight loss and judge score average, and it’s amusing. Seems a natural growth out of the comments by people like Marie Osmond and Marissa and some other larger ladies from DWTS that they found the dance regimen to be a great way to lose weight.

And what do you all think of the new Foundation that the dancers have put together to scholarship dancers who would otherwise be left behind? It crosses all boundaries, from DWTS to SYTYCD to Dance Crew and more. I love the idea!

I actually voted high for Ryan’s salary increase. IMO, that guy is the glue that holds the show together. At some point, especially if we continue with 4 judges, the producers must give Ryan the power to time-manage them. He should be allowed to cut them off or speed them up if their critiques start to …meander.

D, I agree somewhat regarding Ryan but ultimately it’s the director’s job to manage the pace of the show. Especially in a live broadcast like Idol. So, whoever the director was this past season, he did a horrible job and should get a pay CUT, if allowed to stay on at all!

D, I could NOT agree more re: Ryan Seacrest. I have had folks watch the show with me who are not regualr viewers, and they have, on more than one occasion, commented on Ryan’s professional approach to hosting. He is never at a loss for words and, as you say, is the glue. I voted for a raise, too!

And, linny, I did not watch SYTYCD enough last year to be able to compare Phillip this year. I think Jason deserved to leave before Phil, though. They have criticized Jason’s lack of emotion, among other things. I personally like Janine, and I love Evan, too. The criticism of Evan’s lack of stretches and his lines were valid last night, IMO. But, I am betting on Brandon.

Yep, Ryan’s worth a raise. And I agree with Dee that he should be “allowed” to cut off meandering judges. He’s able to do it with the tact and finesse such a situation demands.

Don’t forget abt “The Hurt Locker” – best movie of the year so far.

Philip was close to making the cut last year when he became ill, and was unable to continue into the top 40 — however last year they held a “dance off” with him and another popper who was pretty good, i think his name was Robert or something… as an exhibition on the finale. At that point, i thought he’d never have been able to make it through choreography. But he took the experience he did have to heart, met a gal who’s mother “taught” him to “partner” … and it made a world of difference.

But I’m with you — Brandon is the ONE to beat, although Melissa is awfully compelling so far. It will be verrrrry interesting to see the pairings now that they have to split up and draw names….

No way am I gonna click those links!

I was trying to think of what other Idol combos would work for a tour. I think Michael Johns and Brooke White are a nice, contrasting duo. We already know that Adam and Allison are great together but, I think their careers might not require a partnership.

How about Melinda Doolittle and George Huff?

Who in their right minds would click on that link?

It would be great to see a concert with Kelly, Carrie and Cookie. I would be the first in line to purchase a ticket!!!! :)

Time for me to head back to LaGrange for the weekend. Everyone have a great weekend. Be safe, be happy and remember to keep a song in your heart, a smile on your face and a tap in your toes. Above all else, please be careful when on the highways.

See ya on Monday.

Ohhh D, that’s a great combination! or if you want to make it more interesting, add… OH what was her name? the other Christian lady, the one who was talking about battling her weight and the gay community thought she was dissin’ on them…. aaaaaa Lakisha–yea…Kiki, that one…. She and George might also make an interesting show.

Speaking of partnerships — hubby — who HATES opera — said that this year’s AGT contestants — the basso profundo and the mezzo soprano — should join up with what’s his name from last year Neal? and they could perform as a team also. LOL.

anywho…. hope you all have a lovely weekend! and pray it doesn’t get so freaking HOT again…

Deirdre, great combos for going on tour together or for something else? Just curious. Seriously, the combo that will work is one that is different but not too different. Mandisa with Lakisha would not be different enough to be a good combo, while Melinda with Skunk Haired Girl would be too different. Chris and Adam would be good, Phil Stacey and Josh Gracin? How about Allison and Bo?

What if we could vote and choose only one idol from each season and then they would go on tour together? I don’t know who I would pick from each season, I would need a refresher idol course.

Allison, Bo and Melinda might make my list, but I don’t know for sure!

Nana, I hope for a good outcome for your father! :-)

linny – I watched SYTYCD every week. It’s one of my favorite shows. I agree that Brandon is the one to beat…is there any style that he can’t do??…however I love Melissa! My daughter who is a dancer absolutely loved the Pas De Deux classical ballet with Melissa and Ade. It was absolutely beautiful! The competition is really great this year. The quality of dance is definitely top notch.

I have watched Dance Your Ass Off as well…kinda of a combination of SYTYCD and Biggest Loser. I tune in mainly because of my daughter and also because I went to High School with Lisa Ann Walters, one of the judges.

Happy Monday morning everybody.

Today’s Quote: “The value of life lies not in the length of days we are given, but in the use we make of them.”

Dad is out of CCU and doing better. Still, we are at a standstill with him. He can go either way, and the doctors are still saying there is nothing else they can do. He had me do something over the weekend that I wasn’t sure I could do. I wrote up his obit the way he wanted it to read. That was a very hard thing for me to do, but its written just the way he quoted it to me. I spend a couple hours at the funeral home making sure they have all the arrangements the way he has requested for him when the time comes. Dad doesn’t want me nor my brothers to have to deal with any arrangements later. He picked out the Bible scripture and his songs as well. He is trying to make things easier for us. Needless to say, my weekend wasn’t all that great. However, I still have my dad for now. So in that aspect, the weekend was wonderful.

Hope all of you had a wonderful Sat and Sun and enjoyed the nice weather.

Morning!

Nana, when the time comes(whenever that may be) you’ll be grateful to have been able to follow all his wishes. It helps him to rest easier having done all this ahead of time. Know that your friends and family stand with you and let that give you the strength you’ll need.

I enjoyed my weekend with both my LA kid and my ATL kid.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, too!

This news from mj:

Protesters outside of the arena tonight–they may be anti-gay protesters targeting Adam and Allison, but reports are a little fuzzy at the moment. @michaelsarver1 just tweeted: “For those outside protesting I say do not judge less ye be judged yourself. Guys don’t mind these people we are a strong family.” and “We are together in this this thing. You mess with one you mess with all ten. We are strong and we are 1.”

Good morning! Nana, I know your heart is heavy at the things you had to do, but D is absolutely right. It won’t make it any easier to live without your father, but you can rest assured in knowing his wishes were followed and that you were an integral part of his planning.

Wow, D! Michael Sarver just rose immensely in my estimation.

For SYTYCD fans. Rumors abound that Melissa and Brandon have been paired together, setting off both cheers and people protesting that it gives them an unfair advantage.

I believe it does give them a huge advantage, but it also shoots expectations to the moon, too. They are the best dancers on the show, IMO and the opinion of others, too. Perhaps, it might have been wiser not to have done that. I am thinking of how it shapes the competition and makes it not-so-keen.
