The “Idols Live” tour has hit several cities now in the Pacific Northwest. Reviews appear to be pretty good so far.
This Vancouver paper the Province gave it a B:
The concert had everything an Idol diehard could want: campy group numbers, questionable wardrobe decisions and flashes of star quality. Unfortunately, for half of the performers, this 52-city tour is probably as good as it’s going to get
The Seattle Times noted how much love Adam Lambert got:
If the number of earsplitting screams and shrieks erupting from every mention of his name or glimpse of his face on the JumboTron was any indication, glam rocker Adam Lambert was the superstar of the “American Idols Live!” 2009 summer tour’s concert Tuesday night at the Tacoma Dome.
Here’s Rolling Stone’s take on opening night:
The two biggest stars of the show — winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert — embraced what endeared them to millions of fans throughout Season Eight. “Glambert” was out in full force, with tight pants, his otherworldly wail and a tribute to the original rock androgyne, David Bowie. Wrapped in a plaid shirt and a pair of jeans, Allen kept it simple and real, embracing the stripped-down soul sound that elevated him from dark horse to worthy champion.
Last year, I mocked Ramiele Malubay, who got almost universal pans from reviewers across the country. I felt she shouldn’t have been there. I’m not sure if anybody will get that level of derision this year. The Times said Michael Sarver was “Passable” while Megan Joy did “forgettable copycat versions” of Corinne Bailey Rae and Amy Winehouse. I suspect Megan will get the harshest critical bricks thrown but I actually like her.

Thanks for the reviews Rodney. Maybe we should see some concert pics of Megan, you know for research purposes. I don’t think anyone this year could be as bad as Ramiele. Where is she now?

I second the motion for concert pics of Megan Joy. Research is very important.

BTW, Rodney, any news of Lindsey Cardinale from season 4 (I think)?
I thought she was wonderful but she was the first eliminated.

Hmm, I’ve watched all seasons of AI and can’t remember any Ramiele.
At one of the concerts, people were throwing red underwear (ladies) at Adam. He picked up a bra, swung it over his head like a different kind of pro, and tossed it back at the audience.

Wreckedpizza, good call on Lindsey. She is someone we need to see pictures of. Last time I heard anything from her (early this season) she was spotted with Carrie Underwood at a hockey game.
Mercedes: Ramiele is a troll like creature that has a fondness for living under bridges. The producers of Idol use her in stories to scare the Idol contestants. You know “eat your green beans or Ramiele will get you” or “don’t be snarky to Simon or you will end up like Ramiele.” That sort of thing.

Megan Joy is really untalented, IMO. And those tattoos make me wonder how she’ll look at 75. Ugh. If she’s not roundly criticized by the press covering the tour, I’ll be shocked.

Awww, give Ramiele a break. She is a human being with feelings. We have certainly seen/heard worse on the Idol stage.

No matter what you say, Ramiele is still better than Sanjaya.

At least everyone remembers Sanjaya. Better to be remembered then to be banished to the land of obscurity.

I promise, this will be my last comment on the Michael Jackson memorial. It seems that eulogizer Queen Latifa had never met MJ. I thought there were rules to follow when you give a euology. For starters, aren’t you supposed to be related to the deceased or at least know him or her really well so you know what you’re talking about when you praise the loved one?

Kinda weird that of all the Idol tour write-ups I’ve seen so far, I don’t remember seeing any mention of Danny Gokey. It’s almost as if he’s not involved (just going by the ‘reports’).
JT, those comments about Ramiele were really harsh. …Accurate, but harsh.
I never understood why she made the final cut to Hollywood week, let alone the top ten!
Nana, prayers out to your dad for a positive recovery.

JTesla, loved the Ramiele analogy. She was clearly overmatched on the show. As for Lindsey, thanks for the update. Maybe Carrie can mentor her to have some sort of career.
Nana, best wishes to your dad. Sure hope he is doing better at this hour and you are able to breathe easier…

Good Morning. T G I F!!!!!!!!!!
Today’s Quote: “Every man’s life lies within the present; for the past is spent and done with, and the future is uncertain.”
To those who express concern for my dad, he’s stable, still in CCU. There is nothing that the doctors can do. At his age (93) he isn’t a candidate for surgery, not even a heart cath. The risk of him not surviving is to great and one his cardiologist is not willing to take. I was informed last night that Dad will continue to have the heart attacks until the end and that we can lose him anytime, and to get myself prepared. Just how do you prepare for something like that? I just keep on praying and taking one second at a time. I left the hospital this morning around 4:40 and drove to work so maybe I can keep my mind busy and not think.
So the idols are getting good reviews. That is good news. Seems like Adam and Kris are getting more mentions that the others, with the exception of Megan Joy. I wish them all success in their future.

So sorry to hear about your dad, Nana. There’s no way to prepare for a loved one’s passing. We just endure it when it happens.

Good morning, Nana. I hope you can keep busy, too. It is difficult at any time, losing a parent.
Lil Rounds is getting lots of love from the critics, too. She seems to be showing them what we all saw in the beginning, before she crashed and burned in the competition.

IMO, Allison is going to be a star, given the right management. That photo has “star” written all over it, and we already know she’s a great singer. Adam seems on his way. Kris? He’s definitely talented, and I really, really, hope he gets good direction for his cd. But, we all know how that first one works. Maybe he can break the jinx.

Another quote for you guys today, a bit longer, it’s a proverb (but not sure from what source) “By all means get money, not to hoard, but to spend — to procure employment, liberty, independence, and above all, the power of doing good.”
Deirdre thanks for the link — I’m with you — while i got the impression that the author of the article definitely LIKED Kris better (style wise), i also felt he gave a pretty fair-minded treatment to everyone except poor Megan with a tweak at Scott.

And I agree — Allison is destined for stardom. I just hope she does NOT follow in Janis’ footsteps and get caught up in the fast-paced industry under the influence of wrong-minded people who introduce her to all the overboard stuff — and that she doesn’t succumb to the the sexpot image, but keeps a bit of the wild-rock-woman-girl but still wholesome at the same time air that she has about her. I really REALLY hate the glamming of the girls into photoshopped divas and starved manikins (sp?) with virtually no clothing on, swishing/swaying their way across the stage and singing the same sound every time they open their mouths and boys and girls humping behind and around them. Enough already.

Linny, I agree. Look what they did to Miley Cyrus. She no longer looks as wholesome as she once did. I think Allison has a good head on her shoulders and will, much like Carrie Underwood, manage to remain successful without all of the insanity that Hollywood seems to visit on so many of these kids. I really hate the starved mannequin look too. Mischa Barton is disgusting to me because you can count every one of her 206 bones.
