Johnny Depp can do just about anything. Wasn't all that impressed with Christian Bale...he's kind of one note in a relatively thankless role. Lots of machine gun shooting for the action guys, good love story...almost a documentary tone. Billy Crudup gave J. Edgar just the right amount of sleeze without going overboard.
