6/19: David Archuleta’s dad gets into a bit of trouble, Carly Smithson’s new band, Radar report on four judges contradicted

David Archuleta’s dad pleads no contest in prostitution ring, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Midvale police cited 47-year-old James J. Archuleta on Jan. 14 at a massage parlor called Queens Reiki, 7350 S. State Street, said Sgt. John Salazar.

Midvale Justice Court records show that Archuleta took a no contest plea in abeyance on Jan. 30. He paid a $582 court fee and completed a counseling class. The case will be dismissed at the end of the month if he doesn’t repeat the crime.

The newspaper said he was cited for solicitation of prostitution and was, um, “sexually gratified” by one of the masseuse girls, according to a police spokesman.

Sorry I was so late on this bit of news but I was a bit busy yesterday.

- USA Today’s Idol Chatter broke the news that former Buckhead resident Carly Smithson from season seven has formed a band with former members of Evanescence. It’s called Fallen. How apropos since she has sung “Bring Me To Life” on the “Idol” tour.

She was originally going to go solo but found this a better option:

The lineup consists of Smithson and three of the four original members of Evanescence — guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray — as well as bassist Marty O’Brien, whose recording and touring credits include Disturbed and Kelly Clarkson.

“This band is going to be theatrical and in-your-face and huge,” Smithson says. “Everything that we do is just going to be big.”

Later this quote:

“I find it very bizarre that I sang that song on the tour, but it’s all falling into place. Never at all, in my frickin’ wildest dreams, did I think this would ever come about.”

From your fans here in Atlanta, congratulations! I can’t wait to talk to her when they go on tour!

-E! Online said Paula has not been signed, contrary to that report earlier this week by Radar Online.

“The RadarOnline info is incorrect. Negotiations are continuing. You probably won’t hear anything until closer to September, when judges are needed back to go on the road,” Paula’s publicist, Jeff Ballard, tells us.

Kudos to Carly on her new gig and kudos to Rodney for being spot on with updates all day. Busy, busy, busy! Great job (though I do still think you should have used either JT’s or my headline suggestions for the Archuleta story just to stir things up a bit!)

Must add my congrats to Carly; she was my fave in season 7. I loved her singing even though she did that wild stare when performing. What was it that Rodney called that look??? Can’t remember at the moment but it always made me laugh when I read it. Hope she does well.

To start off OSF, this is to all you dads:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HInRBJLkLE

I got sent home from school one day with a shiner on my eye
Fighting was against the rules and it didnt matter why
When Dad got home I told that story just like Id rehearsed
Then stood there on those trembling knees and waited for the worst

And he said, Let me tell you a secret, about a fathers love
A secret that my daddy said was just between us
He said daddies dont just love their children every now and then
Its a love without end, amen, its a love without end, amen

When I became a father in the spring of 81
There was no doubt that stubborn boy was just like my fathers son
And when I thought my patience had been tested to the end
I took my daddys secret and I passed it on to him

And I said, Let me tell you a secret, about a fathers love
A secret that my daddy said was just between us
I said daddies dont just love their children every now and then
Its a love without end, amen, its a love without end, amen

Last night I dreamed Id died and stood outside those pearly gates
When suddenly I realized there must be some mistake
If they know half the stuff I done theyll never let me in
Then somewhere from the other side I heard these words again

And they said, Let me tell you a secret, about a fathers love
A secret that my daddy said was just between us
You see daddies dont just love their children every now and then
Its a love without end, amen, its a love without end, amen

Morning!

wreckedpizza…I think Mike coined the phrase “deranged bunny from hell” or something similar to describe Carly’s intensity when she sang. I was a fan, too.

I’m happy to hear that at least on of the judges hasn’t signed a contract yet. It gives me hope!

Dierdre — that would be her signature “Psycho-bunny from Hell” stare. hehehehe.

I did like Carly though, a little to loud at times, but she definately has some talent. I am actually quite intrigued to see what type of music Fallen comes out with. It could be interesting.

So, the stage dad from hell Jeff Archuletta, likes to give his own “performances” too apparently. I am sure it is all an innocent mistake, he was just there for a massage and then oops the girl just fell onto his lap. These things happen you know.

I drove by downtown — fire engines, cop cars — crowds standing a block away — sad news for the entertainment sector of Athens.

I want to THANK the AJC for being so on the spot and relevant with the Ga Theatre news. I went online to the ATHENS newspaper and there’s not even a BLURB not even a “news at 11″ type headline. figures.

guess now my son is REALLY out of work — the theatre was his only income and that only part time. oh well. if i hear anything i’ll let you know!!!

Sad news about the Georgia Theater. Looks like it is going to be a total loss. Reports now are that the roof has collapsed.

Linny, I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Hopefully something will come up for your son.

We have our son living at home now. He graduated in November with his Automotive Engineering and is still looking for a job, nobody in the auto industry is hiring mechanics right now. Luckily he has his old electrical contracting job giving him work when they have it.

Mike, I think we are going to see a return to some very old-fashioned lifestyles — extended family, out of necessity and love, will grow more popular, with 2, 3 and even 4 generations pooling resources. May not be such a bad thing, once you get past the more crowded conditions and lack of privacy factors.

Hey Guys, Due to the Ga. Theatre fire, Ga. Power cut all the power in the area and my office has been outside watching the fire 1/2 block away. Power just came back on. What I’ve seen and been told is the building may be salvagable as the entire inside has been gutted but the steel rafters are in place and the walls did not cave in. It has been burning since 7:00am and is about out now at 11:00am. Streets still blocked off and lots of FD and PD units working. What a way to celebrate my birthday !

sorry — we’re just awful proud of our music scene here in athens — and it’s been around, obviously, for a LONG time. Chuck Leavell who played with the original Alman Brothers, plays with the Stones, and Clapton, among others, and had a band called Sea Level, used to just play free at a piano bar here, for example. We have had rock, alternative, jazz, country, southern rock, you name it… athens has produced some of it!!!

Updated info from the Ga. Theatre……The Feds have arrived, ATF will be here all weekend and into next week to determine the origin of the fire. I saw ATF and State of Ga. Arson units on scene. Spoke with the police uppercrust and they will be keeping the streets around the Ga. theatre closed all weekend and Monday as well until investigators can probe and also to make sure that the walls are still in good enough shape to stand. At 12:30pm, the fire started back up again in a front corner of the building and 2 ladder hoses went up and worked on that for about 20 minutes. The front of the building is intact, its after you walk inside the front doors, its gone.

About to leave for the day, but before I do, I want to wish all you Fathers a very Happy Father’s Day and this goes out to all of you:

Daddy’s Hands – by Holly Dunn

I remember Daddy’s hands
Folded silently in prayer
And reaching out to hold me
When I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story
In the callouses and lines
Years of work and worry
Had left their mark behind

I remember Daddy’s hands
How they held my Mama tight
And patted my back
For something done right
There are things I’ve forgotten
That I loved about the man
But I’ll always remember
The love in Daddy’s hands

Daddy’s hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands
Were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands
Weren’t always gentle but I’d come to understand
There was always love in Daddy’s hands

I remember Daddy’s hands
Working til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly
Just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over
I’d live my life again
And never take for granted
The love in Daddy’s hands

Daddy’s hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands
Were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands
Weren’t always gentle but I’d come to understand
There was always love in Daddy’s hands

Daddy’s hands
Were soft and kind when I was cryin’
Daddy’s hands
Were hard as steel when I’d done wrong
Daddy’s hands
Weren’t always gentle but I’d come to understand
There was always love ………… in Daddy’s hands

Everyone have a great weekend. Be safe, be happy and keep a song in your heart, a smile on your fae and a tap in your toes. Stay safe when on the highways.

Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so good
No one could be, so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my pa-pa, he always understood.

Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he’d change my tears to laughter

Oh, my pa-pa, so funny, so adorable

Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful

Listen to Adam Lambert’s new singe Want:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9nu7KC6OZk

“WANT,” by Adam Lambert, is the first single from the forthcoming album “On With The Show,” which will be released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings/Wilshire Records.

Adam co-wrote many of the tracks that will appear on “On With The Show” – an album of fantastic, diverse material recorded over the course of 2007/2008, right before Lambert’s meteoric rise to prominence. These recent recordings from his partnership with Wilshire, an LA-based production and publishing company, are drenched in his signature pop/rock sound and style.

As America would expect, the music is amazing – get ready for more!

“Want” was produced by Malcolm Welsford with additional production by Mark Endert (Maroon 5, The Fray, Fiona Apple)

This from the Associated Press:

Songs from the American Idol runner-up will be released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records, beginning with the single Want. A spokeswoman for the label said the tracks were recorded in 2007 and 2008 before Lambert’s rise on the popular Fox singing competition. The album will be titled On with the Show.

So you’re right, Mercedes…that song was recored at least a year ago, definitely BEFORE Idol.

Good morning,
You all know I was not a huge fan of Adam’s, so I listened to the song twice before commenting. I can see why Mercedes called it pre-Idol. If i heard the song on the radio, I would not switch stations, but i think i would have suspected it was someone trying to “sound like” Adam rathering than this being Adam. I am assuming these are pre-recorded sounds that no one went back and tweaked, to have more of the sound people are use to hearing from Adam. But since this is Adam and he likes to switch things up, I am sure some of the other songs will be the Adam we heard on Idol.
Since this was done before Idol, could this album be released without Adam being behind it? I thought he had to wait until after Kris’ CD is released and after the tour. thanks

To answer Judy’s question:

Adam Lambert says an album of tunes he recorded before “American Idol” won’t be anything like what he’s planning now.

John Hecker, CEO of Hi Fi Recordings, said Friday that the tracks were recorded in 2007 and 2008.

“We were presented with a business opportunity,” said Hecker. “We accepted because Wilshire Records had a long working relationship with Adam, and it resulted in excellent music that they had the rights to. The music has an audience, and it deserves to be heard.”

Hecker said Wilshire Records approached Hi Fi Recordings about releasing the material earlier this year when Lambert was gaining success on the show. He said the album will feature 11 or 12 songs, many of which were co-written by Lambert.

He described “On with the Show” as a “complete album” that would include mid- and up-tempo songs, ballads and rock tunes.

Lambert inked a record deal with 19 Entertainment and RCA Recordings earlier this month after losing to Kris Allen on the finale. The 27-year-old rocker will work on that album while on the road with the show’s finalists for the “Idols Live Tour,” which starts July 5 in Portland, Ore. The untitled album from 19 and RCA is expected for release in the fall.

“The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on,” Lambert said in a statement Friday.

So, Adam, because of songs that he recorded and are now owned by someone else, will have the PR nightmare of having to convince his fans that this is not the album he is releasing.

Things just went downhill for Adam.

Judy

June 20th, 2009
3:18 pm

Next question: I read the article linked from the front page regarding this new album to be released soon. It seems like he is downplaying the body of work on this album. Since Adam seemlingy is trying to distance himself from it, does this mean he will get no money from the sales? He recorded the music, so isnt there something in it for him? I cant imagine he would have done all of this work, only to receive a paycheck or early buy-out with nothing to be gained now. I really do wish him the best out of this situation. I can certainly imagine the glamberts buying both albums, but it may put some others off if the first is not as good as some fans would expect.

I would say, “poor Adam”, but I am sure the word “poor” would not describe Adam now or in the very near future. Best of luck to him. this will give him another week at least to be the most talked about idol. Kris better hurry up and get the “little woman” pregnant.

Hey, keith (small k, how appropriate)… do you always speak through your anus like that? Your parents must be proud… or dead.

Judy, i believe the article says that this Hi Fi Records “has the rights to” the material. Doesn’t sound like Adam will benefit from it, especially since he indicates it’s NOT what he would release, or WILL release, going forward. Sort of like finding some early recordings of, say, Tyler Perry, that he never figured would surface. Something like that.

Ryan Seacrest has a new show in the works involving Lindsey Lohan. I’d tell you what I think of this but mj said it so much better than I could:

And now Ryan will be exploiting (helping) effed up people change their lives, with the aid of the mega-trainwreck-in-progress that is Lindsay Lohan. Ryan should be proud!

Statement from Adam about the rip-off CD, found on TWOP:
“Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio.”

So Adam probably won’t make a penny from this “business opportunity” that presented itself to some lucky recording company.

Happy Monday Morning to all.

Since we just had the first weekend of summer, my quote says it all:

Today’s Quote: “Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.”

Hope you all had a great weekend and that you fathers has a very nice Father’s Day. I spent my weekend in LaGrange with my dad and enjoyed every second of it. I’m getting really worried about my dad. At age 93, I can see a big decline in him in the past 2 months.

Did any of you catch Adam’s interview with Nancy O’Dell on Access Hollywood last week? It was a three parter and I found it to be very interesting. He did admit that he had a crush on Kris and thought it was to bad that Kris was married. But tossing that aside, Adam seems to be a geninuely very nice person. I wish only good things for him in his future.

Good morning all. Nana, I love summer and hate cold weather, so I am really happy in the 90-degree heat!

Adam will overcome whatever mediocre stuff he did in the past. We all know what he really can do.

I spent seven and one-half hours yesterday exploring South Carolina’s wonderful network of backroads–from mid-state to the coast and back again. There are some really lovely small towns, just as there are in Georgia. Does anyone remember back before I-20 was complete between Atlanta and Augusta? You had to detour through lovely little burgs. Of course, if you were in a hurry it wasn’t so great. LOL!

Morning!

Love the quote, Nana!

harriett, hubby and I spend a lot of time exploring back roads. One of my favorite drives is from Savannah to Charleston. All that southern low country charm, spanish moss and lovely vistas warms my heart.

First I’d like to thank the US National soccer team for participating in a miracle yesterday. They finally got off their collective butts and beat Egypt 3-0 yesterday to enter the semi-finals of the Confederation Cup. The miracle was that Brazil also beat Italy 3-0 to help the US win it’s berth in the semis.

Next, I’d like to send a warning to the top 7 guys at the US Open…watch out, Tiger’s awake!

Oh, Dierdre! Isn’t it soooo nice to be able to talk about sports here without reprimand from a former “expert?”

And, D, I love it when the Spanish moss starts showing up. I know it is a parasite, but soooo lovely!

Kris Allen is really getting the knack of handling the media:

When 24-year-old American Idol Kris Allen was recently asked how he felt about runner-up Adam Lambert’s crush on him, he replied that his wife has a crush on Lambert!

Clever boy!

I notice Phil keeps saying in successive interviews that he’s hitting well but needs to sharpen his putts … ya reckon?! last interview i heard, i thought was a re-play of the first one LOL.

anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens at Beth Page Black, if the rains can be kind to them…

Woodpappy – re AthFest, it’s this upcoming weekend, i misspoke when we talked. I knew that, but was thinking — or NOT thinking — something else, i guess. Anyway, this coming weekend would be a fun one for your grandkids, unless it’s as hot as it was THIS weekend, to come into town! I’m being presumptuous, you guys may have already done the AthFest thing in the past.

I don’t think Mr. Archuleta has to worry about such things with David, unless it was a group of hot guys giving the massages
