It’s 6:15 a.m. I am going to post multiple times this morning. Here’s my first look:
It’s big. They already have more than 9,000 people registered, far exceeding Boston’s 7,000. And since everyone is allowed to bring someone along, I’d say there are probably 14,000 people in line and it’s still two hours until the Georgia Dome guards let them inside.
Alexis Grace, who finished 11th and is NOT on tour (a darn shame), is doing work for the TV Guide Channel just like Brandon Rogers did two years ago. I couldn’t grab her for an interview because she had to do work herself but I’ll try to catch her later.
The line snaked halfway around the Dome and they even kept folks in “pens” on a field by the Georgia World Congress Center. “Idol” told folks to get here at 5 a.m., not because they had to but because they want those long lines for the cameras.
If you registered early Tuesday, you’ll probably get your first audition done earlier.
In fact, getting here early garners you zero benefits. But a lot of people didn’t get the memo. Take poor Ron Shirley, 17, of Mableton and Britney Carr, 19, of Atlanta. They were first in line.
They did register early on Tuesday, then decided to hang out most of the time for the next two days. The only advantage of being first in line? Camera time, baby! Fox affiliates, CNN, me. We all interviewed them. They sang to the cameras and neither were half bad.
Carr in fact is going to the Berklee College of Music in Boston this fall.
The pair had the option to sleep at home the past two nights but decided to emulate the homeless folks hovering around by sleeping on the concrete. Although “Idol” warned people not to do that, the guards at the Dome let them.
“My bag is soft,” Shirley rationalized.
And both said the outdoors haven’t hurt their voices. “I wasn’t sleeping on my throat!” Shirley said.
When I asked if they felt the show was getting a big aged, they said yes, but Shirley believes “it’s still the most original show around.”
Shirley was only 10 years old when this show started. “I remember Kelly and Justin and the confetti,” he said. “I knew I wanted to do this then.” (He was eligible a year ago but the closest audition city then was in Florida so he couldn’t make it.)
The judges are not here on the first day. Normally, Ryan Seacrest, our hometown boy, is. But one of the Fox publicists said he couldn’t make it. Why? I have no idea. She also had no clue why Fox decided to hold auditions so early. They usually do it in July or August. Heck, it’s only been 29 days since Kris Allen was crowned the “Idol.” But that hasn’t stopped the hordes hoping to be Idol No. 9.

Good Morning!!!!!
Rodney, if you run up against my granddaughter (Carla, petite, short dark hair and a real talker)be kind to her.

Back problems? Yeah, right. I will believe that when pigs fly. Isn’t there other professionals one can go to for back problems? Just asking. You know, none of us just fell off a turnip truck and I do believe that our elevators go all the way to the top floor.

MJ has updated the Jeff Archuletta story:
At the time of the raid, only one client was there. “He was just finishing up in suite number one. I sent two of the officers in and the male was on his stomach on the table with a masseuse in lace underwear.”
That client was Jeff Archuleta. “We read him his Miranda rights twice. The second time because he said he didn’t understand them the first,” said Salazar. “During the questioning, he said he’d found the place on Craig’s List. He was asked if he’d received any sexual services and he said he had.”
Archuleta was cited and released. He was not subject to a mug shot. The massage parlor never re-opened.

OH yes we must have an Archuletta headline!!!! LOL
I would say something along the lines of “Will Jeff Archuletta Arrest Tank Son David’s Already Dismal ALbum and Concert Sales?”
HAve fun at the auditions. My daughter just started a new job, and decided not to try out.

Good to hear from you, Mike…and I’m sorry your daughter isn’t trying out but, with a new job, who can blame her.
Your Archie headline, however, could get death threats aimed at Rodney!

Do they have a weather plan in place at the auditions? Fortunately it is indoors, but the dangerous storms well to the north triggering a PDS watch will certainly get there (unless they change course) long before the auditions end. With the large number of people heading in and out, that could get wicked.
