5/28: Danny Gokey thinking DWTS? Idol responds to AT&T texting brouhaha

Who would be a good "Idol" alum to join "Dancing With the Stars"? (Feel free to include your own ideas in the blog entry itself)

According to Entertainment Weekly, American Idol second runner-up Danny Gokey has expressed interest in competing on Dancing With the Stars.

Interestingly, not a single “American Idol” alum has landed on “Dancing With the Stars.” At least, not yet. “Idols” have popped up on shows such as “Celebrity Rehab” (good going, Nikki McKibbin and Jessica Sierra!), “Gone Country” (Justin Guarini and Diana DeGarmo, to name two) and “Fear Factor” (Anthony Fedorov and Carmen Rasmussen). But DWTS and “Idol,” which are shot in neighboring studios, have not cross-pollinated yet. Hmmm… this is a good idea for a poll, eh?

-Archie fans hijacked my favorite runner-up Idol of all time poll last week. Bo Bice and Adam Lambert were competing as favorite contestants until suddenly David Archuleta took over. He now is winning by a monstrous margin. As noted, these polls are not scientific in the least, eh?

-”Idol” responded to that AT&T texting brouhaha:

“Fox and the producers of ‘American Idol’ are absolutely certain that the results of this competition are fair, accurate and verified. Kris Allen is, without a doubt, the American Idol. We have an independent third-party monitoring procedure in place to ensure the integrity of the voting process. In no way did any individuals unfairly influence the outcome of the competition.”

AT&T responded, too:

“Last week, countless parties were held in homes, bars, and other public places across America to watch the ‘American Idol’ finale. In Arkansas, a few local AT&T employees were invited to attend two local watch parties organized by the community. Caught up in the enthusiasm of rooting for their hometown contestant, they brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested. Going forward, we will make sure our employees understand our sponsorship celebrates the competition, not individual contestants. That said, it’s quite a leap to suggest that a few individuals could have impacted the final results.”

One Kris Allen texter told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that she was able to make 10,840 votes that night at one of the parties thanks to “power texting.”

-On the “Today” show, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen downplayed the pseudo controversy of those A&T text parties for Kris. Here’s the video from MJ:

So, I see by your post you’re in on the anti-Adam conspiracy, too, Rodney. Warning: we’re on to your schemes and we won’t stop until Adam is rightfully crowned the American Idol!

I think you know who I voted for on that poll, Rodney. You know those Archie fans are dedicated.
I voted for Michael Johns on this one, I think he would be fun on DWTS!

I think DWTS ought to have an entire Idol-themed season! All the contestants should be former American Idol contestants…and each time someone is voted off, they get to sing whatever they wish their Idol goodbye song could have been.

I have returned to the blog with exceptionally clean and sparkling teeth…thank you, Sandy, the dental hygenist! :-)

No surprise here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30984503/ It is an awful song.

This is hilarious(warning…if you are at work, keep the sound low, the language might be deemed inappropriate. Apparently a few weeks ago Katharine McPhee was “rescued” from a papparazzi hoard by a homeless woman named Quween. These 2 have no made a joke commercial about Quween’s services.

Thanks for the new blog Rodney.

I voted Diana, now before you discount that by saying I just want to watch an attractive woman dance, there is good reason for it. She strikes me as being very classy. I can see her doing something like that and being very polished and professional. Many of the other selections would just be cheesy and end up getting the boot in the first week or two. I’m talking Ace, Constantine, Sanjaya, Scott, and Clay. They need to fade off the D list for good. If Diana were to go on that show I might be willing to watch it again, because let’s face it the show is still dead to me considering the treatment that Kim Kardashian received.

David Archuleta is obviously the worst runner up of all time if he needs to have a few rabid fans take over an OLD poll just to create some faux support for him. The little guy is nice enough, but his fans are the crazy.

There goes FOX again saying they are “absolutely certain,” I wish they would just come out and take a firm stance on the matter ;)

I was one of the ones that really didn’t like Adams way of singing. I thought he had a beautiful voice when he didn’t screech those high notes. I never thought about it in the text that he would really fit right in with “KISS” til I saw it on the finale. But that is probably why I didn’t like his style of music, cause I never have been a KISS fan. And the night he sang “Mad World” is the night that AI went WAYYYY over on time and my recording didn’t get it. If I had heard that I may have had different opinion of him. When he sings that way, I think to myself, “Now that I might actually purchase”. My dislike of him had absolutely nothing to do with his life style or any of the other things that have been discussed.

Cookie, I think you’re representative of the general population in that regard — you voted on your preference of style and talent and what you might consider purchasing. I think the vast majority of us use similar criteria, and only the rabid fringe use outside determiners, such as sex, sexual orientation, length of hair, makeup, bootie, boobie, etc. *grin*

Deirdre, thanks for a great laugh, by the way!!!! Kat’s cool. I always liked her, just not as a singer — she’s got a low-key sense of humor that sneaks up on you, i think!

Could someone please explain to me what the difference is between the “Early Show” and “Today” so that I can get in on the joke. Actually don’t bother because I really don’t care. All those shows run together one has a hot lady with an old guy, one has a bunch of old ladies yappin, one has a big jolly weather guy. If I were a lazy homebody I’d watch the big jolly weather guy one, or maybe the one with the hot lady and the old guy he’s funny and did that show where they gave away a lot of money.

Judy: if you are registered to vote please take out your voter registration card and rip it up. Thank you.

I think Diana or Katharine would do well on DWTS. They both are attractive women who are in good shape, and they both have some experience with learning choreography b/c of their musical theater backgrounds.

Diana DeGarmo’s stalker was sentenced to 26 months in prison. She’ll be eligible for release January 2010 but will be on parole until May 2011. So if she re-offends during that time she’ll be returned to prison.

Morning!

I have a quote from Adam this morning from an interview with People.com, talking about the ’speculation’ and what he wants kids to learn from it:

“It’s a really, really cool thing,” he says of the show, “to be able to show people that you can be yourself, and you should be proud of yourself, and you should own who you are and what you’re about, and never make apologies for it.”

“It feels really amazing to be able to try and pass that on to kids and young adults who don’t have a role model like that,” he says. “It feels great because I never had a role model like that.”

“Conforming is not cool,” he adds. “Embracing who you are and what makes you different is actually what’s really cool .

Deirdre

And while I’m quoting Adam, here’s his opinion of “text-gate”:

“There are plenty of standards and practices set up where they make sure that there’s no, foul play. And I don’t think it’s a conspiracy,” Adam told Access. “I think people are making a big deal out of nothing. A couple of employees handed out a couple of phones and showed people how to use them. I don’t think that’s a conspiracy of any kind.”

Good morning! D, this is further evidence of what we’ve said all along about Adam. He is just an incredibly thoughtful, kind, and polite individual who evidently had parents who cared about such things.

“Conforming is not cool,” he adds. “Embracing who you are and what makes you different is actually what’s really cool.”

Oh brother…by girly-boy Adam stating he is not a conformist makes him more all the same…what a silly little girl. Seems most of these young transvestites, like Adam, relish the idea of being misleading by stating and acting as if they are the latest greatest non-conformist.

What a stupid fool.

Good Morning Folks!

Of all the things that have been written and said about this season I think this person said it best about why Kris won.

“Having listened to Kris Allen’s earlier stuff from Brand New Shoes, I can tell you guys that this guy is a clever songwriter. His lyrics are witty, earnest and what I love most about him is the nuance in his voice. He’s not a power belter like Adam Lambert, but he’s taken a song, turned it around to make it sound fresh and current (like his take on Marvin Gaye’s classic “What’s Going On”), and vocally he has a combo of a little R&B and soul but also that pop/rock quality that makes him a dream to listen to on an iPod or the radio. I think this guy is going to go very far. He may not be your typical American Idol because he’s a musician rather than a singer, and he knows exactly who he is and what album he wants to do, and people will either like it or hate it, but I think this guy is a true artist and we can expect great things from him. I love that he didn’t compromise who he was as an artist during the course of the show just to get far. He stayed true to himself musically, and obviously it paid off. I think America’s choice of him as American Idol reflects well on where America is musically. Rather than choose someone like Adam Lambert, who let’s admit, although he is an exciting artist, is vocally a step back in the music industry – he has a voice that is reminiscent of artists of the past: Axl Rose, Steven Tyler, etc. Kris has a voice that suits the here and now in the industry, with the likes of Jack Johnson, Matt Costa, Gavin DeGraw and Jason Mraz who are successful today. Oh, and if he can take a crappy, preachy song like “No Boundaries” and make it listenable, he’s definitely got the musical chops”.

Thanks KPH…Kris has done a remarkable job with a pretty awful song. He makes No Boundries almost palatable, which says a lot about his abilities. He’s a nice guy and he will represent Idol well.

Obviously, Kris won because he got the most votes. Seems simple to me.
