Happy Memorial Day!
I had long complained that the previous software we used to blog lacked the ability for me to poll the readers. This year, I finally got my chance. I ended up doing almost 80 polls. I went over them to see how well we did in terms of our collective predictive powers.
Sorry to say but “Idol” confounded us nearly half the time including picking the winner albeit it was really really close in the end.
Here are some notable results:
– Two-thirds of you before even seeing Kara thought she was a good idea. By the end of the season, 56% of you thought she was a waste of time or simply okay. I give it a 50/50 shot she’ll be back next year.
-On Feb. 22, I asked what you thought of Danny Gokey. 68% liked him a lot. The rest thought he was being overly pimped by the show producers. All true.
On Feb. 25, I asked who that week of the semifinals should make it to the top 12 and you correctly picked Allison and Adam. Jasmine, Matt and Megan got very little support.
On March 4, I asked about that group of 12. Top pick was Lil Rounds followed by Ju’Not Joyner (who should have been in the final 13 over Michael Sarver). Scott MacIntyre came in third followed by Felicia Barton (who should have been picked over Jasmine)
On the same day, I asked who among the top 8 will make it to the top 12 (which became 13). In order, you picked Anoop, Megan, Jasmine and Matt. Bingo! You got it right!
On March 6, after the top 13 was announced, I asked who you think will win. In order, you picked 1. Danny, 36% 2. Adam 22% 3. Lil 4. (tie) 12% Allison 6% 4. (tie) Anoop 6% 6. 8. Kris 4 7. Megan 3% 7. (tie) Matt 3% % 9. Alexis 2% 10- Scott 2% 11-Jasmine 2% 12- Michael Sarver 1% 13- Jorge 1% Overall, we weren’t that far off the mark – except for Kris Allen. He was way down in the middle of the pack at that point behind Anoop, Lil and Allison and not much ahead of Alexis and Matt.
I also asked the same day who SHOULD win. Out of 489 votes, 32% said Danny Gokey. Only 15% picked Adam. 2% said Kris Allen at that stage. Lil Rounds was only four votes behind Adam and came in third with 15%. Anoop was fourth with 9%, Fifth was Allison at 8%. Sixth was Matt at 6%. Alexis and Megan were tied for 7th at 4% each. So Kris was ninth at 2%, just ahead of Scott at 10th. Jasmine, Michael and Jorge all had 1% or less support. One person actually said Michael Sarver should win. Probably his mom!
On March 10, we asked who should go home. You predicted Jasmine and Jorge! Bingo. 100% correct. Two for two.
But on March 17, during top 11 week, we got it all wrong. We predicted collectively that it would be Michael Sarver for sure, followed by Scott, Megan and (yes that “Ring of Fire” peeved people) Adam Lambert. Only 8% of the voters thought Alexis Grace would go home. Those 8% were right. So two for three.
On March 25, for top 10 week, 48% picked Michael Sarver to go home and this time, the group got it right. 36% picked Megan. That’s three for four.
On March 31, for top 9 week, 67% picked Megan. Bingo! The group is now four for five.
On April 7, for top 8 week, 51% chose Scott to go home and again, collective wisdom was right. We were now 5 out of 6. (33% picked Lil Rounds)
On April 14, for top 7 week, 52% picked Lil Rounds over Matt at 30%. Wrong! Matt got booted–then saved. Two thirds thought that was wrong. We are down to 5 out of 7.
On April 21, for top 6-7 week, both Anoop and Lil Rounds got cut. We got this one only 50% right. 46% picked Lil Rounds. (We got to pick two). That was correct. But 30% picked Matt vs. 17% for Anoop. So right now, we are 6 out of 9.
On April 28, for top 5 week, we chose Matt Giraud in a landslide 77% to leave. And we got it right. So at this point, we’re 7 for 10.
On May 5, on top 4 rock night, we missed the mark big time. A whopping 61% pegged Kris to go home, but Allison (at just 15%) did instead. Our predictive powers have dropped to 7 out of 11.
On May 12, for top 3 week, we again got it wrong. We picked Kris AGAIN (46%) and he confounded us. Danny (at 33%) went home instead. So we dropped to just 7 out of 12.
Then came the finale. Although 51% of you said Kris SHOULD win, 51% predicted an Adam victory. So in the end, we were 7 out of 13.
-And here’s hopefully the last time we ever hear from Bikini Girl.
Ever. Naturally, she badmouths Kara.
-Queen’s Brian May is so impressed with Adam Lambert, he wouldn’t mind Lambert being the frontman. But I doubt Adam would take it any time soon for obvious reasons.
-The final ratings for “Idol” last Wednesday was 28.8 million and a 10.0 rating and 30 share among 18 to 49 year olds for the finale. But that’s the lowest 18-49 number ever for an “Idol” finale.
-Yawn. Clay Aiken apologizes for critiquing Adam Lambert’s “Ring of Fire.” This is definitely much ado about who cares.
