5/22: Atlanta to be an audition city for season 9

-The Seattle Times reports the cities, but not the dates, for season 9 auditions:

Denver, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Orlando.

A spokeswoman at Idol confirmed with me at 12:20 p.m. that Atlanta will be one of the cities.

This will be the fifth time in nine seasons that Atlanta is an audition site. Atlanta had auditions seasons one through three and season seven.

I will provide more information as I get it. Interesting that they chose mostly big cities this time. In recent years, they’ve opted for some smaller towns, often near where the winners were based. You’d think they’d try Little Rock, Ark., for instance.

MJ did a good job collecting some leftover finale news. Simon Cowell naturally was not happy seeing Kris Allen win. And Clay Aiken dissed Adam Lambert on his Web site despite the fact he only saw Adam’s “Ring of Fire.” Bitter, party of one?

The reason Scott MacIntyre got virtually no solo time is because his partner Billy Joel bagged on him at the last second, according to a Scott Twitter.

Yay a new thread! Thanks Rodney.

I was wondering about Scott, that is really too bad about Billy Joel baggin on him. That would have been… well decent.

Great, Auditions in Atlanta! I will get me some just for men and strange looking clothes ear rings and lots of tats. Anyone know where I can get a 30 year old body? I am going to be the next American Idol! :-)

It’s less than 350 miles from Conway Ark, to Dallas Tx. Kris drove nearly 450 to audition in Louisville, KY.

Sorry… typo. It’s about 540 miles from Conway to Louisville, KY.

I was never that impressed with Scott. His voice was good… not great. If his story wasn’t so compelling (visually impaired guy fighting the odds) – he’d have never made it through to the top 36 – much less the top 10.

Everyone have a great weekend. Off to the doctor for another stress test since they couldnt get my heart rate up enough on the one two weeks ago. I have been off the toporol for 3 days now so that should do the trick. Prayers and good thoughts are appreciated. :-)

RK , it looks like Clay wants to be the only one behind.

RK, Clay is bitter that the cash flow has shut off. He tried to get a boost in income by selling his “secret” but now he needs to do something else to get attention. He probably dislikes Adam because he fears that an AI contestant who is comfortable with his own sexual orientation will further eat away at Clays current revenue source which consists of B-list guest appearances.

While waiting for hubby to get home, I thought I would post some more. I would ask that you all pray for my grandson’s safe return who is in his second tour in Iraq. He comes from a long line of Vets starting with his great, great, great great grandfather who fought in the Battle of Vicksburg during the Civil War and with my 93 y/o dad who is a vet of WW2.

This Memorial Day, let us all remember why we are celebrating this day and what it means to all of us. God Bless ALL armed force members and their families.

Okay, maybe I done for now.

(I’m pretty much doing this for myself so I can look back lol)

13. Jasmine Murray
*Best Performance: “Reflection” – It was pretty good I thought. I enjoyed it and it highlighted her vocals.
*Worst Performance: “Love Song” – I liked her through Hollywood, was looking forward to her making the Top 13, but she failed.
:::I think Jasmine is a better singer than most people say. She has a unique voice, though not always on point. But, combine a good voice with no evident personality and bland performances, you get the boot first. I felt bad for her when she hit a way off note at the finale. Oh and she is very pretty.

12. Jorge Nunez
*Best Performance: “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” – I enjoyed this. He showed that he had great vocals. Also, it was a passionate performance and you couldn’t help but smile when he got emotional.
*Worst Performance: “Never Can Say Goodbye” – Duh! It’s the only other performance he had. I haven’t actually watched this since he sang it, and I can’t remember it being bad or anything, just forgettable – thus an earlier boot.
::: Jorge has always been a strong singer, I just don’t think he had enough appeal to the audience to make it far in the competition. Nice guy.

11. Alexis Grace
*Best Performance: “Dirty Diana” – Most people will say her semi-final was her best, but I liked this even more. I felt something when I watched this. The more the performance went on, the more excited I got. I don’t know why, I just did. I thought it was a brilliant performance, to be quite honest. I actually got out of my seat… (perhaps it was that we hadn’t heard her sing in a few weeks?). Then the judges gave so-so reviews. Then I got mad. ‘Cause it was underrated.
*Worst Performance: “Jolene” – It was fine, it was just forgettable. Leading to her unfair boot the next night.
::: It’s weird enough typing her name at No. 11. I’m not going to get into it as I already have before, but she is so underrated. She should have made it deep in to the competition, let alone ON TOUR!! Jeesh. I pray we hear more from this girl. The judges not saving her was bogus (no one ended up getting eliminated after this that was worth it – hope they think about that next season if it’s in play). I looked back at what I said for her audition and I didn’t even catch her name! “That Blond Girl”…

10. Michael Sarver
*Best Performance: Nothing really… but I guess “You Are Not Alone” – It was a strong performance, but nothing that stands out today.
*Worst Performance: “Ain’t Goin’ Down Til The Sun Comes Up” – Karaoke. The instrument dude was much more interesting to watch. How was he NOT eliminated after this? Nothing in it makes the telephone call my name… forever will be confused…
::: Michael is a good singer, just not good enough. I can’t imagine who is going to see him on tour, but good for him for … making it?

9. Megan Corkrey
*Best Performance – “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” – Very fun to watch, enjoyable. I liked it. Other than the last note she hit (remind me why she did that?), it was great!
*Worst Performance – “For Once In My Life” – All I can remember about this was that when I saw the spoilers I was like ‘Oh this could be good for her voice”, but as for the performance, all I remember is that it was shouty. She had to go louder in some places, but it turned into pitchy shouting. It was all a bit awkward… luckily for her she still dodged bottom 3 the next night.
::: I like Megan’s voice. It’s interesting and something that would work perfectly with the correct song. When it’s the wrong song, it’s bad. When it’s right, it’s right, it’s great (audition). I really like Megan and was rooting for her throughout the semi-finals, but once she hit top 12 I didn’t care quite as much anymore. Still liked her though.

8. Scott MacIntyre
*Best Performance: Again, nothing really. But I did enjoy his exit performance (not the actual performance) of “The Search Is Over” – He was “singing for his life”, and it happened to be better than his actual performance. Other than the off note he still managed to hit, It all felt a little sad and emotional and I felt it too.
*Worst Performance – Well, mostly everything, but how about “You Can’t Hurry Love” – yeah, like mostly everything he did, it was boring as BUTT. Or “Wild Angels” and the other performances where he went for the high notes.
::: Scott is a nice guy, but he is a completely bland singer. He only made it as far as he did because he was blind. Simply put. You cannot disagree… the judges, somehow, were in love with his audition and Hollywood performance of “Home” and I was like – WTF!? They were both BORING. Scott was way overrated basically. We’ve had this on Idol many times and it’ someone you’d hear back in like season 1 when the show first started and had much much worse singers. Also, why did he always try and hit those high notes? They weren’t good. Did he not listen to his songs back? Nice guy though, funny.

7. Lil Rounds
*Best Performance: Honestly… her audition “All I Do” – It was awesome. I loved it. Why couldn’t her actual performances be like that!? She should have stuck with her hair like that, it made her different, rather than another typical african american female on Idol. I also loved her personality.
*Worst Performance: “I’m Every Woman” – It might have been fun for her, but all we could think about were the pitchy parts and the unoriginality. It was just a mess. And every other performance was under par as well.
::: I like Lil, but she was boring to me. She didn’t do anything to make her performances stand out. She just sang them. Boo! Be like your audition! Even “Be Without You”, which was good, I thought could have been better. I thought we’d get weeks of great performances from her once she hit top 12, but what we really got was to familiarize ourselves with her ‘unfortunately not as good as we thought’ self.

6. Anoop Desai
*Best Performance: “Everything I Do” – It was serious, sincere, and a good vocal all in one. That makes for an enjoyable performance.
*Worst Performance: “Turn Down The Lights” – What it was was average. Unless they’re not allowed to, I’ll never understand why these Idols don’t color up their performances, don’t stick to the original, change the arrangement, make it interesting, make it strong, hit big notes. This was just boring. Zzzzzz… nothing to jump out of your seat about. And pitchy.
::: Anoop’s voice is fine, as is his personality. He was cool, but not interesting enough to be my favorite.

5. Matt Giraud
*Best Performance: “Who’s Loving You” – This really allowed him to show what he could do. What he does best. I wasn’t crazy about the arrangement (I thought that making it sound like it was the end in the middle, then starting up again was dumb), but all in all it was very very nice.
*Worst Performance: “Viva La Vida” – Like Jasmine, I was looking forward to Matt making top 13. But he failed. It was a very off performance.
::: Matt is a unique, current, good singer. But I don’t think he deserved the save he got. It much more suited Alexis for being off too early. Matt made it far enough, top 7, he wasn’t going to go much further than that…but when he was good, he was good. Good singer.

4. Allison Iraheta
*Best Performance: “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” – I know she had many great performances, but this was the most exciting? I don’t know. I just had to pick one of her bests. It was upbeat, showed her vocals, and she hit some crazy notes there at the end.
*Worst Performance: “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” – It was just a bit of a mess and too much. All over the place. Still good, but not that enjoyable. Contradictory, however, she hit her greatest note ever in the competition in this performance. It was when she was saying “Yeah, yeah, YEAH” on that last yeah. It was awesome. Kinda sounded like a Carrie Underwood high note. But one excellent note does not make for a great performance. This is the song she does on her TV exit interviews. And she’s doing it on tour. Why? It wasn’t her greatest. For some reason she thinks so.
::: Normally, I don’t like the people we haven’t seen before they air live. With Allison, she was a fantastic singer (for 16!) so she grew on me FAST. I wanted it to be an Adam-Allison final 2, but she didn’t quite make it. Why not? Why are the girls having so much trouble these past 2 seasons? What do you expect America!?!?!?! Love her voice…

3. Danny Gokey
*Best Performance: “P.Y.T” – Great performance, fun, energetic, strong, great vocal, judge interaction, dancing, the whole thing was awesome. Or “Come Rain or Come Shine” since it was great as well.
*Worst Performance: “Dream On” – What the heck? The performance was a snoozer (didn’t go anywhere), and then he let out a scream at the end. Which was terrible. Then he brushed it off the next night saying he laughed it off and that it was “the funniest thing he did all season”. NO it was the WORST thing you did all season! He MEANT to do it, so he was thinking it was going to be good. But it was BAD, not funny. You can’t mess up and be bad and then say it was supposed to be funny. And he STILL talks about how funny it was on his twitter! Holy crap mang – are you fricking serious.. ANNOYING!
::: Danny is no doubt a good, strong singer. But he was overrated. He could have had great performances all season, but stuck to boring songs and didn’t deliver them greatly. He only made it as far as he did because of his early-pimped popularity. He wasn’t THAT great. Great, but not great great. And progressively got annoying throughout the competition. Basically, by mid-season, I turned on Gokey. And the extreme wife-showing in the beginning of the season was even more irritating (seriously, that picture of him and his wife after he made top 13, unnecessary). Still a good singer though.

2. Adam Lambert
*Best Performance: “Tracks of My Tears” – I agree with Gene Simmons. It’s easier to get into him when he sings softly and draws you in. This was the performance that made me get into him. It was fantastic. A lot of people will say “Mad World”, but this was more real. More about HIM. Emotional connection, great vocals, pretty-sounding voice = great performance.
*Worst Performance: “Ring Of Fire” – Sure it was a fine vocal, but it was an extremely indulgent … well, in a word: YUCK.
::: Adam is one of the best to be on Idol for sure. He is not my favorite ever, but he is a great singer. Over the top, but in a good way. Had some wonderful performances, and being runner-up has proven to not even matter. It was just the moment, time, place. Adam just happened to fall short of the winner slot that he probably deserved.

1. Kris Allen
*Best Performance: “Falling Slowly” – well, my favorite at least. You will all say “Ain’t No Sunshine”, but this is the one I enjoyed the most, the one that made me an official Kris Allen fan; well that and the fact that I didn’t get to see “Ain’t No Sunshine” live so I couldn’t get that into it at first. It was all about HIM (like that Adam performance I mentioned) and it was interesting and had that connection. Great.
*Worst Performance: He was pretty much consistent all season, but his worst I guess I’d pick …. “Man In The Mirror” – it was a bit pitchy, and personally I did not think it was enough to make top 13.
::: Kris won because he’s interesting, he’s an artist. It’s not always about be the strongest or best singer, as long as you are enjoyable. Unlike Taylor Hicks. Too spastic. And not that good of a singer. Kris was current, and we needed that. He kept it interesting and put up a fight. I was furious when he made top 13. Over Megan. I just did not think he was very good, overrated, etc. But once he moved on I grew to be a fan. Thank god too because yanno he did end up winning. Great singer, but a surprise winner nonetheless. Never would have expected it weeks ago. Good for him.

Now for the last thing.
I would have liked the top 4 to be…. Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta (no order)… so hey at least 3/4 of them made it!
