There are SO many rock songs to choose from, it’s going to be virtually impossible to accurately predict who will sing what. I presume each person will get two songs.
Here are some suggestions nonetheless and believe me, I could spend hours pouring through rock song lists and this could get really ridiculous. Maybe I’ll add some more Monday or Tuesday for kicks.
Adam Lambert
“Mr. Brightside” The Killers
“When Doves Cry” Prince
“Creep” Radiohead
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” Guns N’ Roses
“Light My Fire” The Doors
Anything by Bowie (I’d love to “The Man Who Sold the World” or “Suffragette City” though “Fame” would be ironic and “Young Americans” could be fun)
Allison Iraheta
“One” U2
“Love is a Battlefield” Pat Benatar
“Magic Man’ Heart
“Born to Be Wild” Steppenwolf
Danny Gokey
“Live and Let Die” Paul McCartney & the Wings
“Won’t Get Fooled Again” or “Baba O’ Riley” The Who
“Who’ll Stop the Rain” Creedance Clearwater Revival
“Gimme Some Lovin’ ” Spencer Davis Group
“Who’s Cryin’ Now” Journey
Kris Allen
“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” Rolling Stones
Something by Tom Petty (though he’s never cleared anything for “Idol” that I know of) e.g. “Don’t Do Me Like That.” “An American Girl”
“Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” Bob Dylan
“Under the Bridge” Red Hot Chili Peppers
“Lonely Ol’ Night” John Mellencamp (Another act that wont clear diddly squat for “Idol”)
-MJ says the guests this Wednesday will be a reunited No Doubt and Daughtry.
-And is the Idol mansion haunted? Allison thinks so, says Anoop to People magazine.

Good Friday morning my fellow blogsters!
Rodney, those are great suggestions….the subject of “rock week” leaves them so wide open…I am really looking forward to it.
I am going to see my favorite American Idol tomorrow – BO BICE!!!

Rodney, Rodney, Rodney…you need to look at Neg’s early picks to know what is right and what is wrong. Let me help you out…
Allison doing Born to be Wild would be a mistake since Adam just did it 3 weeks ago. Also, you want her throaty self doing friggin’ Bono and his high pitched yodel? You’re kidding, right?
Danny: Not bloody likely he’ll do Won’t Get Fooled Again since it’s about a 20 minute song. Even worse, you have HIM doing Steven Perry songs??? Please, Rodney, you must stop.
Adam doing Morrison? Rodney, do you not know an Alto from a Baritone?
Kris you made some nice choices for…that is, until you got to Cougar Mellencamp. Come on, man, Kris does not have the rock grit in his tender voice for that.
Oy, that’s why Neg must be here…must save the Idols from being led astray.

Rodney, I love “The Man Who Sold the World,” but doubt Adam will do it. I think he could do anything by Journey well, too, but not Danny! Danny would do CCR ok, IMO. Prince will cause flames to erupt, as if they already don’t when he performs. I think Danny needs to stay away from flames as much as possible.

I still think Adam needs to some Queen. Flames or not. “killer Queen”, “Show Must Go On”, even the dreaded “Bohemian Rhapsody” — any of the Freddie Mercury tour de force songs.

The Lyrics…. Heart Barracuda
So this aint the end -
I saw you again today
I had to turn my heart away
Smiled like the sun -
Kisses for real
And tales – it never fails!
You lying so low in the weeds
I bet you gonna ambush me
Youd have me down down down down on my knees
Now wouldnt you, barracuda?
Back over time we were all
Trying for free
You met the porpoise and me
No right no wrong, selling a song-
A name, whisper game.
If the real thing dont do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooh, barracuda?
Sell me sell you the porpoise said
Dive down deep down to save my head
You…i think you got the blues too.
All that night and all the next
Swam without looking back
Made for the western pools – silly fools!
If the real thing dont do the trick
No, you better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooohhhh, barra barracuda.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.

And for Woodpappy The lyrics
Baby, baby why can’t you sit still?
Who killed that bird out on you window sill?
Are you the reason that he broke his back?
Did I see you laugh about that?
If I come on like a dream?
Would you let me show you what I mean?
If you let me come on inside?
Will you let it glide?
Can I have some remedy?
Remedy for me please.
Cause if I had some remedy
I’d take enough to please me.
Baby, baby why did you dye your hair?
Why you always keeping with your mother’s dare?
Baby why’s who’s who, who know you too?
Did the other children scold on you?
If I come on like a dream?
Would you let me show you what I mean?
If you let me come on inside?
Will you let it slide?

And yes, DJPCPS, I am a huge Bo fan (thought it was too obvious?)….Rodney took me to one of his shows where he got to interview him last year – such a nice guy. I am not an official “PEEP” though…

She Talks to Angels, Bad Luck, Blue Eyes, Goodbye, Twice as Hard or Jealous Again would all be great Black Crowes songs for Danny. And hey, Georgia would be represented again!!
Still not sure that Adam should do a Queen song, just to avoid those Freddie Mercury comparisons. How about something from Foreigner, like Cold as Ice, Feels like the First Time, HotBlooded or go ballad with I wanna know what love is….

Neg, no worries (from last thread.)
And Rodney, I’m down with Neg. How could you possibly suggest a Journey song for Danny?
First, the only alto in the group is Adam. Second, anyone who does Journey risks the ‘comparison’ slagging from Randy!
Also, can’t see Allison doing Heart. Haven’t heard her do anything this season that says she can hit those high notes.

i will take back one thing — i said Allison should not do Janis, but IF she did “mercedes benz”, complete with giggle at the end, it could be quite fun. but ball&chain, and that ilk, are too “raunch” and involve way too much screaming (not SCREECHING) to be effective choices for da’kid.
i also agree, no way danny needs to be doing anything falsetto, and kris needs to NOT compete with adam for that range, let adam have the upper ranges… that works just fine.
i think tuesday night will be another of those either fantabulous or total disaster
y’all have a great weekend!

I think Randy wouldn’t comparison slag on Adam if he chose a Journey song. His voice is much more suited to one of those than Danny’s. I like the idea of Foreigner for Adam, too.

You’re right Linny-kitty. Allison wouldn’t do herself any favors doing a Joplin tune. Though I think she has the voice for it, she’d risk getting a lot of flack from the judges over picking something too “mature.” (As if rock & roll is supposed to have boundaries!)
And, Harriet, you are correct. Alto Adam is the only one of the remaining 4 who could do Journey without sounding like he’s straining on every other note. And he seems so bullet-proof with the judges now that he probably wouldn’t hear a discouraging word!

Jesse Lang, the bluesy red head who was eliminated in the Top 36, was arrested for driving without a license (it was suspended from a prior DWI). I think she was a very good singer, and hopefully this will blow over without too much incident.

I am a HUGE Danny fan. That being said, I hope he doesn’t sing “Baba O’Riley”. David Cook was awesome on that song last year. I’m not sure which song would fit Danny’s voice for the rock genre. The CCR song is a great suggestion. I’m really worried about Danny this week. I have a hard time imagining him singing rock.

Just popped in to see if the blog gremlin has lightened up yet. By the looks of things, it hasn’t or ya’ll are just taking the weekend off.
Not to worry, Kathy in Texas (great state!). There are plenty of rock songs with blues flavor that would be just right for Danny, if he wants to go that way. The Doobie Bros., the aforementioned CCR, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, John Mellencamp (if they can get it cleared, and be sure to nix the ‘Cougar’, please), Allman Bros., even some of Rod Stewart’s early stuff.
As a matter of fact, the options for this genre are endless. Which makes Tuesday either a show worth waiting for OR a possible train wreck for some contestants since, as always, it comes down to song choice!

Good afternoon peeps. Kris is one of my favorites, and I’ve been a supporter of his from the get go. However, I’m kinda worried about him this week. Of all the contestants left, he is probably the “softest” in sound. Another bloger got it right when they called him Coffee House Kris. I’m sure he will not disappoint, he just seems to fit this genre a little less then the rest of the gang. It’s honestly wide open from here on and it’s set up to make for some great TV.
