4/29: American Idol recap, top 5 results show – Matt Giraud leaves
So Matt Giraud is gone. No surprise. He acquitted himself well through most of the competition (though I still can’t quite get his awful “Viva La Vida” out of my head.
Loading ...He had good vocal skills, a decent look but was ultimately a Justin Timberlake wannabe. Just not enough originality to get any further. I don’t think a lot of you guys will miss that fedora.
Next week’s theme: rock, with Slash as mentor
The Ford ad: Pretty to look at but not terribly memorable
Group sing: Proof positive this is the best top 5 in terms of overall quality we’ve ever had.
The cake cooking food fight: Felt a bit staged.
Natalie Cole: Looking abfab. Sounding snazzy until a few pitchy notes at the end.
Taylor Hicks: “Seven Mile Breakdown.” Bluesy rock, shorter hair, grayer than ever, lost some weight, did his usual thang. Simon gave him (gulp!) a standing o’.
Jamie Foxx: Fun party song and Jamie knows how to perform. That Auto-Tune effect, however, is being way way overused. Thanks, T-Pain!
Bottom three: Kris Allen, Matt Giraud and (surprise!) Adam Lambert.

Natalie Cole has been through some really rough times. I think she still has Hepatitis C from her days of drug use. She was addicted to heroin at one time, very early in her career. It is a credit to her that she survived to sing again. And, she looks just like her mother, Maria.

At this point, all 5 of them have some kind of future in the business. It’s important that we vote for the person we think should win…not the person who needs to be saved…whoever that person may be.

Danny is now the eleventh contestant to not be in the B3/2 before the round of four.
Of the ten previous contestants not to land in the bottom, five went on to win (Kelly, Carrie, Taylor, Jordin, Cook), which means 63% of the seasons had winners who were not B3 by this point, which bodes well for Danny.
Of the five who didn’t wind up winning, four lost to others who had not been B3 by this point. (Tamyra, Daughtry, Melinda, and Archie).
The only person to not be B3 at this point and lose to someone who was would be Clay.
History doesn’t bode well for anyone but Danny at this point.
