Lil Rounds is first in the bottom three. And the first out. They just pulled the Band Aid quickly on that one.
Why? She started strong in the early audition and Hollywood rounds But since she got to the big stage, she’s been okay vocally but lacking in artistry, as Kara might say. She simply never stood out in a way that could distinguish her as an individual. That’s a killer on “Idol.” She got about as far as she deserved. I guess we can say she finished “seventh” or “sixth” depending on your point of view.
Anoop Desai was the second out just beating out Allison Iraheta, who was in the bottom three a third time. Anoop is the earliest person I think in the history of “Idol” to get eliminated while getting the pimp spot.
Why did he go? He has been inconsistent. And while he has pulled off some great performances, he’s had a few clunkers, too. He also never quite came off as a genuine artist, though he has improved in the past couple of weeks. I actually liked his “Dim All the Lights” and he looked better than ever. So good job, man.
Group sing: Paula Abdul does the choreography. I’m sure Scott MacIntyre is partly relieved! This top 7 clearly has better dance moves (by far!) than last season’s. Best group dance ever!
Vote total this week: 45 million, up from 34 million last week and 36 million the previous two weeks.
Ford commercial: Kinda boring, mildly confusing.
The disco medley: Freda Payne was a bit offkey much of the time but she is 66. Thelma Houston at age 65 was far better but she looked like a canary with that outfit . K.C.? The 58 year old looks like he’s been chomping down on the KFC!
David Archuleta’s “Touch My Hand” (live!): He doesn’t sound quite as good as he normally does. He doesn’t seem 100% vocally. But it’s nice to hear his voice a little roughed up for once.
