4/10: Woh! Jason Castro gets a contract!

Jason Castro has a record deal with Atlantic Records with an album hopefully out this summer. Check out this Billboard interview online. My old bud Fred Bronson, chart guru at Billboard and “Idol” fanatic, did the interview:

-Forbes reports that an “Idol” spot fetches $623,000, easily the most in primetime. That’s an estimate. Different advertisers surely pay different rates.

Who do you think Vote for the Worst should pick now that Megan and Scott are gone?

-MJ’s big blog got the video of David Cook on former Atlantan Lance Krall’s goofy improv show “Free Radio” where Krall plays a clueless DJ interviewing celebrities.

“Your hair was so gay in the beginning,” Krall said.

“Nobody really cares about you as a person,” he later said to Cook. Cook doesn’t bite back.

And MJ was nice enough to include the clip where Katharine McPhee on “CSI: NY” plays a killer singer and gets arrested.

I just read some extra stuff about Jason over at mj’s where it says that he and Idol judge Kara have written a song together. This takes away any trust I had in Kara’s ability to properly judge the current contestants!

This is part of an interview of Michael Johns by Shirley Halperin of Billboard Magazine as interpreted by mj. It came out after Rodney put together this thread and, if he’s smart, he’s left for the day so here’s some of what Michael had to say about his upcoming album and this year’s Idol:

Michael has re-discovered his soul, “I really wanted to do a Stax record. I went back and re-listened to music from my childhood — Sam Cooke, Otis Redding. Wilson Picket — and when I went to sing on the record, I didn’t even have to think. I was really comfortable. Simon wanted me to do more of that [soul] on the bloody show, but I didn’t get the chance.”

What does Michael make of the judges save? “I mean, I wouldn’t want to change anything about the way I was eliminated. What if you get kicked off the week after? Then you’re a double loser.”

Michael is a little skeptical about this season of Idol. He thinks Adam Lambert is great for stage and TV, but wonders what he’ll do in “the real world. ”

“I think Simon would have ripped him a new a-hole, but they’re praising him, so go figure?” says Michael “It’s like, who are these contestants?”

Michael does like a few from this season, “The one who I think is really true to herself is that little 16-year-old, Allison [Iraheta]. Brooke [White] and I actually met her at a charity function, where she was the one performing. I said, ‘You go for it, girl. You can sing!’ I liked that Alexis [Grace] girl, too. She was more talented than she got to show. It sucks that she got voted off and can’t go on tour.”

Michael digs his own season, “…out of any other season, I would want to be on our season, even with where I finished. It’s, like, who are you gonna pick on from our season? From Chikezie to Brooke, Jason Castro, Carly… we’ve all got something. I’m really proud to be a part of my season. We’re all friends and I talk to them all the time.”

JT Country Joe And The Fish first sang that song live at Woodstock (the real one in 1969) It was a hit and got some radio play. Which was odd for a song like that back then.

fangurl…you’d be laughing if he wasn’t a favorite. Seriously, why is it that people’s senses of humor disappear when you pick on someone they like, but they laugh their patootie off if the picking is directed at somebody they don’t? Human nature I guess!

Deirdre, maybe if I hadn’t been reading this blog for years, and know that a few of you have continually stuck the stoner label on Jason, I would believe these comments were in jest. Or, maybe if you had also added a note of congratulations or well wishes…….. I’m not a fanatic for any particular contestant…..I just love this cheesy show! I really liked most all of the contestants last year – I thought it was an outstanding group, with 1 or 2 exceptions. And I’m not inclined to bash the contestants I don’t like. I just don’t comment on them and don’t support their fansites or threads at the AI Forum.

He got a contract with Atlantic Records a year after his being on the show (I can’t think of another contestant who got a major deal that long after the fact, but I can be totally off on that). He certainly doesn’t need us to congratulate him.

That was hard for me to say, well the “he got a contract with Atlantic Records” part at least. LOL Jason Castro.

7:49 pm

wow. fangurl, Jason **IS** a stoner. Perhaps if you’d LIVED during the “stoner” years you might know why we say that, and it’s not necessarily an insult. Like Nathaniel WAS a “drama queen” and Tatiana WAS a “drama queen” — you can identify someone’s attributes when they’re pretty clearly attributes!!! All you have to do is listen to the interview/statement by Jason that Rodney linked in, he’s a freaking stoner! He’d have been SOOOOO right at home during the Flower Power years during the 60s!!! I like the kid, but then i like that kind of performer, I liked Brooke, I liked Megan — but acknowledging what someone is — or appears to be (and that’s THEIR choice) — isn’t a bad thing!!!

chill, fangurl, and pitch in and comment more often, join the blogging and let us know how you think more often, not just when you want to call someone out!!! ***said with a big welcoming smile***

Deirdre

Take it easy fangurl…are you saying we’re not allowed to have a running joke going about Jason’s laid back attitude? We’re talking about the guy who YAWNED during a results show! And believe me, the stoner label is in jest. He denies it…so I’ll believe him BUT…he finds the label amusing as well so it’s a little bit funny to get our collective hand slapped for a running gag.

If you’ve been reading for years then my guess is that you’re generally annoyed with OUR laid back attitude. We love this cheesy show, too…we just don’t take it all very seriously. We love our favorites, as I’m sure you know, and we don’t hide our opinions about the contestants we don’t like.

That being said, I agree with you about last year’s group of contestants…including Jason. It was an interesting and talented bunch that made the season very enjoyable.

Why don’t you join us, since you’ve been reading for so long. We’re friendly, sometimes flippant, rarely mean spirited and we love adding people who are willing to state what they think.

by the way, to clarify something earlier — being a “stoner” doesn’t necessarily mean you are STONED, it means you ACT like you’re stoned — perception is reality insofar as the beholder is concerned, and if Jason doesn’t act like a pure out stoner, no one does!!! just watch the interview/statement above!!!

Morning!

LOL Mike!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

On this week’s theme, mj says: In the past, the theme has not only included songs on soundtracks, but any song that’s appeared in any movie at any time. That’s pretty wide open and the last theme was pretty wide open as well but the Idols made poor decisions about what to sing. Should be interesting.

If Lil wants to say her enormous you know what, she needs to pick a quiet ballad and let us hear her voice. Her diva routine does NOT work. If Matt wants to save his etc, he’ll need to go back to that bluesy piano stuff that he “sometimes” does well. I don’t think there is anything that will save Anoop’s azz. He’s sweet, he’s nice, he has a good voice but he’s basically boring.

Since we already have the flowers, I think the April showers(or torrential rain storms)can go away now! Please!

Good morning everyone! I missed you on Friday. Wow! What about those storms? I was in Greenville, SC and watching on The Weather Channel as Atlanta area get pounded. We had trees uprooted and everything in upstate SC, too.

Well, add me to those who cannot believe the Jason Castro news. As you said, D, there are so many more talented folks who are struggling out there. I guess the powers that be figured he still had a fan base, hence why invest in him?

My Easter was very nice, and I hope everyone else’s was. MikeS, thanks for the Vince Gill lyrics on Friday. I absolutely LOVE “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

We had a busy Easter here, but a good one. :-)

It was pretty hairy here in Montgomery Friday night. Had two tornado touchdowns within a mile of each side of the house. No damage here but had a bunch of damage at the ballfields down the street and windows blown out at a new apartment complex on the other side of my neighborhood.

Also had a couple trees blown over this morning in out neighborhood from the current batch of storms.

In between I got the lattice around the frame of the new pool, and got the support poles for the deck in and set. Son and I will work on the Deck framing this week. :-)

And the grand daughter was over yesterday, so I got to play with her for a couple hours. I would “hide” and she would crawl around and find me. Hiding consisted of going around a corner and calling her. LOL. Of course she found Paw Paw ever single time. But it is all good, I can handle getting beat by a 9 month old. LOL

Right now, I have Fats Domino, Lloyd Price, some Platters, Five Satins, and some rockabilly like Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran. I also have a Josh Groban station, with the likes of Charlotte Church and others, as well. I did a Motown station in honor of Motown night, and then have a Yo Yo Ma station, too. It’s loads of fun. My latest is Chris Botti and Chris Potter, one a trumpet player and the other one a sax man. All over the place!!

I wish i could set up a station to play “50’s” or “60’s” but it has to be either a song or an artist, unfortunately. but i love the way it finds other stuff in similar vein and sets up all you could ever want to listen to (5 hours if you don’t touch the keyboard at all after it starts, then it asks “are you still there?” i love that!
