This is the holding spot for the weekly exit press conference of the latest booted contestant, in this case Scott MacIntyre.
He is pretty gabby, answering questions in a much deeper fashion than pithy Megan. He can’t wait to tour, of course, been dreaming of it since he was a child to tour. He also dubbed himself “an academic gone pop star.” He has followed “Idol” since season five and when he saw they allowed pianos last season, he realized this was the right year to audition.
For some reason, my effort to get a question in failed. Odd. I wanted to know some more about his song choices and whether he felt like he was going to leave this week. I may have to listen to some other interviews to glean that.
“I have a huge catalog of original music, original songs. I can’t wait to share my writing, my songwriting with America,” he said.
What he learned: time management. “In the midst of shopping and the Ford shoot and the mentor shoot, it’s quite crazy. It’s taught me to budget my time extremely well. I’ve also learned anything is possible.”
Defending his “The Search is Over” performance: “I stand by my performance Tuesday night. If people watch the performance back in context of everything else that went on that night, it was a good, solid performance.”
Type of music he will sing: pop-rock with adult contemporary, singer-songwriter, radio friendly songs. “If the hook of the song is not worth pursuing, I won’t pursue it,” he said. Influences: John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, Bruce Hornsby, Vanessa Carlton, Mark Schultz.
His thoughts when he heard 30,000 votes separated between him and Anoop: I thought a couple more people should have voted! In all seriousness, I thought it was just amazing. At this stage of game everyone has won in their own right… I have this incredible platnform now. Poepe know my story. I wil do everything I know to transition from Scott on American Idol to Scott MacIntyre the singer songwriter.”
His career plans: “I see my career from this point threefold in my mind. I’ll be a performer. Secondly, I am going to bring a lot of songwriting to the table for myself and down the road. I’m completely open to writing for other people… I actually enjoy production and mixing and mastering, that whole realm of sound… I enjoy a lot of different aspects of the business.”
Why he went for the guitar this week: “I wanted to shock America a little bit. I was happy to bring my shredder out and go out in a blaze of glory.”
On the camaraderie among this group: “We were actually one of the only groups that apparently talked and joked two minutes before going on stage. Last year, everyone was very silent and in their own world… we have so much fun, even before we walk on stage, it’s amazing.”
In other “Idol” news, former Snellville resident and season three runner up Diana DeGarmo’s Australian stalker was denied bail Thursday by a judge who believes she will do it again.
From Associated Press:
Tanya Maree Quattrocchi, 23, was convicted in 2007 of cyber-stalking and blackmailing DeGarmo and sentenced to serve 150 hours of community service. She was arrested again in January on six new charges of cyber-stalking the singer, her mother and her roommate in the United States.
Police allege Quattrocchi interfered with DeGarmo’s e-mails, accessed her MySpace account 700 times in eight months and sent electronic messages to the American star between last May and January this year.
Diana and her mom over the past three years have been continuously harassed and have talked about how wily this gal has been, pretending to be Diana to friends and family members, just being a pain. Craziness!
-The theme next week is “Idol at the movies.” This means any song that has played on a movie soundtrack, a nice, broad theme again. Quentin Tarantino will help out. He was the best guest judge “Idol” has ever had from season three. Pre-taped performances by Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus will be on the results show Wednesday.
-Wednesday early ratings: 22.4 million, which will be more like 22.8 million when the final numbers come in. That’s up from last year but last year wasn’t a fair comparison because it was “Idol Gives Back,” which averaged about 18 million viewers.
-I caught Clay Aiken on “America’s Next Top Model” from last night. He did a bit of play acting as a fashion designer and he judged, too. I thought he was thoughtful and engaging on the show. At least he can do stuff like this now that he’s “out” and not get any smirky comments about it. I haven’t seen the Kat McPhee appearance yet…

I think the movie theme will be a very good test of song choice…something that most of them haven’t done all that well with in the past.

I see the state furloughs will continue and spread. I cant believe University system is holding out. i know the state mentioned teachers, I guess that is as far as it got on the state level. But can it get to the county level once people sign contracts? I know most systems have already passed out contracts.

IOE, I own the Jeff Buckley Grace cd and agree. One thing that may not be common knowledge is that Buckley’s version of “Hallelujah” was played over and over and over again during tv reports on 9/11. They would scan the ground zero site, list the names and photos of the missing and dead, all with “Hallelujah” playing in the background.

harriett, SC teachers dont get contracts? So what is their safety net, protection? Wow, The university system in GA has refused up to this point to furlough any employees. the employee for UGA (i think) should have been furloughed years ago. Not doing so cost the state and the school tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. those P cards were truly a license to steal.

Actually Sanford is being smart and saving the State a pot load of money. The “stimulus” (I say that very much tongue in cheek as it is just the opposite) is a huge poison pill that all the states should be declining.
TO get the money now the states have to agree to continue the federal pork funding at the same rate out of thier own pockets after the fed teat runs out.
This boondoggle might make good press right now, but in 3-5 years every single state will be completely utterly and totally bankrupt.
Think the layoffs are bad now? Just wait, after this there will be NO MONEY to pay any state employees.
Deirdre

Judy…she was working for Tech.
I don’t think that refusing stimulus money is politics. I think it has more to do with not wanting to overtax the populace if it isn’t absolutely necessary. The stimulus money will come from our pockets eventually. I think it also has to do with keeping the gov’t’s hands out of our lives just a little bit more. I’m proud of the governors and CEO’s who say No thanks. Why take the money if you don’t need it…and why is the gov’t forcing it on companies and states who don’t want it?

In my county, the local gov’t offered it’s employees the choice of reducing their salaries by 10% and keeping every current employee on the books or having a 10% reduction in the workforce. Deirdre
April 9th, 2009
1:56 pm
No, harriett…not teachers be damned…selfishness be damned. We’re in a recession and we’re still selfish enough to believe that we deserve what we were always getting! GM is broke and the employees won’t take a pay cut! That’s ludicrous! School systems are broke yet they keep sports, fine arts,(and believe me, I’m in favor of those programs…but not when a school is out of money) and other extra-curricular activities because…why? Teachers would rather take money from the federal gov’t than force their systems to make the changes necessary to weather the current storm. It will be over…it was always going to be over.
When they voted to reduce the workforce rather than lose a small percentage of their income in order to save other people’s jobs….that lost me!

Your county’s employees had the opportunity to vote? are u in GA? wow. I can see why they voted the staff cut, esp. if they have many years in and post grad degrees. the 10% is equivalent to a month’s salary. the sad part is the staff that is let go will have a hard time moving to another system. But it is politics, it always boils down to politics. See the last person I voted for was Elliot from Top 12, but I tried to save Stephanie season 6 and the guy who was R&B that same season. He wasnt the best but he was at least some eye candy. the rest of the guys didnt nothing for me. Oh and I voted for Paul that season as well. I know that tomorrow is OSF, but since I have a short day , I wanted to get started today, so here goes:
The Coasters “Little Egypt”
I went and bought myself a ticket and
I sat down in the very first row, wo wo.
They pulled the curtain but then when
they turned the spotlight way down low, wo wo,
little Egypt came out strotting,
wearing nothing but a button and a bow, wo wo,
singing, “Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah”.
She had a ruby on her tummy and
a diamond big as Texas on her toe, wo wo.
She let her hair down and
she did the hoochie koochie real slow, wo wo,
When she did her special number on a zebra skin,
I thought she’d stop the show, wo wo,
singing, “Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah!”.
She did a triple somersault and when she hit the ground,
she winked at the audience and then she turned around.
She had a picture of a cowboy tattooed on her spine,
saying Phoenix, Arizona, nineteen forty-nine.
Yeah, but let me tell you people,
little Egypt doesn’t dance there anymore, wo wo.
She’s too busy mopping and
a taking care of shopping at the store, wo wo.
‘Cause we got seven kids and
all day long they crawl around the floor, wo wo,
singing, “Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah
Hope it’s okay that I started early.

You, darling you send me
I know you, you send me
Darling you, honey, you send me
Honest you do, honest you do

There were 3 people that once had contracts. Idol’s only rule is that the contestant can’t be on contract with anyone while they’re on the show. Michael ran into trouble, like Carly because he was a foreign national rather than a citizen. I believe he has citizenship now. That was also the season of the 2 David’s…Cook and Archuleta…and they were very popular. But Michael definitely deserved to go a lot farther than Jason Castro or Kristy Lee Cook or even Brooke White.

Everything that sounds good isn’t always a good thing when you do a little research and become informed about it. Hee, Deidre, Diana fanatic here, just stopping by to say “hello.” LOL
I think we are just weary of Tanya Quattrocchi and hoping it will all be over for Diana soon. After three years she deserves some justice.

Margaret…we’d all be happy to see Diana’s tormentor put away for a long time. Nobody should have to deal with that craziness.

oh… correction, earlier, maybe last thread, i mentioned “Tim” Buckley, but of course as someone subtly pointed out, it was his son, Jeff, who did Hallelulah. Somehow i always cross their names up, so not surprisingly did it again on here. mea culpa.
just setting the record straight. i, too, can be wrong once in a while ***duck***

I’m also a Diana fan. When will these stalkers realize that they will caught and punished? NO ONE has the right to stalk another regardless if you are famous or not. Stalking can lead to dangerous actions. We have seen it before in the news. Stalkers Beware!!!!

Oh Nana, thank you! Love the Coasters. You never let us down. I just got too busy with work today and didn’t get back to visit with y’all. You can bet I’ll be here early tomorrow for OSF – a concept I truly love.
Hope the barkeep has a healthy supply of Chardonnay (if not, then I’ll have a double Jack and a Coke back) and I can’t wait to see and hear the music everyone has picked out for us poor heathens up here in the Northwest. Listenin’ and readin’ this blog is truly my greatest guilty pleasure – better than M&Ms at midnight. (Sorry to report that the last bag of M&Ms was defective – they all turned out to be W&Ws.)

Happy Friday!!!!!!
Today’s Quote: “Intelligent people know of what they speak; fools speak of what they know.”
Kicking off OSF with a classic related to Easter.
Judy Garland – “Easter Parade” 1948
Never saw you look quite so pretty before
Never saw you dress quite so handsome – what’s more
I could hardly wait to keep our date
This lovely Easter morning
And my heart beat fast as I came through the door
For…
In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it
You’ll be the grandest fella in the Easter parade.
I’ll be all in clover, and when they look us over
We’ll be the proudest couple in the Easter parade.
On the avenue, Fifth Avenue,
The photographers will snap us
And you’ll find that you’re in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet, about your Easter bonnet
And of the guy I’m taking to the Easter Parade.
On the avenue, Fifth Avenue,
The photographers will snap us
And you’ll find that you’re in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet
About your Easter bonnet
And of the girl I’m taking to the Easter Parade.

Bobby Darin won his only grammy for the following:
“Mack the Knife – 1959
Oh the shark has pretty teeth dear
And he shows them pearly white
Just a jack-knife has Mac-heath dear
And he keeps it out of sight
When the shark bites with his teeth dear
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves though wears Mac-heath dear
So there’s not a trace of red
On the sidewalk Sunday morning
Lies a body oozing life
Someone’s sneaking ’round the corner
Is the someone Mack the Knife
From a tugboat by the river
A cement bag’s dropping down
The cement’s just for the weight dear
Bet you Mackies’s back in town
Louis Miller disappeared dear
After drawing out his cash
And Mac-heath spends like a sailo
Did our boy do something rash
Sukey Tawdry, Jenny Diver
Polly Peachum Lucy Brown
O the line forms on the right dear
Now that Mackie’s back in town

HOpe everyone has a wonderful and Blessed good Friday. I try not to get to preachy on here, or any blog, and God knows I have my moments of failure; but this is a glorious day and the start of a glorious weekend for all of us. Please take a moment to remember what we are celebrating/commemorating this weekend, and count the blessings that He has bestowed upon you.
IN light of the Easter theme – here is a little VInce Gill to help kick off OSF. I can’t access Youtube from work so no linky, but I urge all to find and listen to this amazing vocal.
GO Rest High On That Mountain – Vince Gill
I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren’t afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin’
Love for the Father and Son
Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin’
Love for the Father and Son

A Classic Johnny Cash toon that is so so relevant even today.
The Man in Black – Johnny Cash
Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there’s a reason for the things that I have on.
I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin’ in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he’s a victim of the times.
I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you’d think He’s talking straight to you and me.
Well, we’re doin’ mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin’ cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we’re reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought ‘a be a Man In Black.
I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin’ for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.
And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen’ that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen’ that we all were on their side.
Well, there’s things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin’ everywhere you go,
But ’til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You’ll never see me wear a suit of white.
Ah, I’d love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything’s OK,
But I’ll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
‘Till things are brighter, I’m the Man In Black.

One of my happy songs in my teens was by Manfred Mann. Here’s the video(just the sound really) and I’ll follow with the lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=818pqLCK5_Y

There she was just walking down the street
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
Snapping her fingers and shuffling her feet
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
She looked good(looked good)
She looked fine(looked fine)
She looked good, she looked fine
And I nearly lost my mind
Before I knew it she was walking next to me
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
Rolling my head just as natural as can be
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
We walked on(walked on)
To my door(my door)
We walked on to my door(we walked on to my door)
Then we kissed a little more
Wowo-ohoh
I knew we was falling in looove
Yes I did,
And so I told her of all the things I’d been dreaming of
Now we’re together
Nearly every single day
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
We’re so happy and that’s how we’re gonna stay
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
Well I’m hers(I’m hers)
She’s mine(She’s mine)
I’m hers she’s mine, wedding bells are gonna chime
Wowo-ohoh
I knew we was falling in loooove
Yes I did,
And so I told her all the things I been dreaming of
No we’re together nearly every single day
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
We’re so happy and that’s how we’re gonna stay
Singing do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
We’ll I’m hers(I’m hers)
She’s mine(She’s mine)
I’m hers, she’s mine, wedding bells are gonna chime
Wowo-ohoh
Ohoh yeeeah
Do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do
We’re singing do a diddy dumb diddy do
Do a diddy diddy dumb diddy do

Since next week’s theme is music from the movies, I’ll hit you with one of my favorites:
Moon river wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style someday
You dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you’re going I’m going your way
Two drifters off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
Were after the same rainbows end
Waiting round the band
My huckleberry friend, moon river
And me
