4/1: Mid-day report with Lakisha Jones pregnant, David Cook & Lady GaGa tonight

Lady GaGa (”Poker Face”) will perform tonight. And so will David Cook singing “Come Back To Me.”

Did anybody bother catching “The Osbournes” variety show? Looked like a “Crazy” train wreck from the trailers so I skipped it for DWTS. The Washington Post mocks it.

Eonline said Kara was embarrassed she said “Studio 57″ when she meant “Studio 54″ last night. The reporter says Kara & Randy tend to talk to each other while Simon gabs with Paula. Paula and Kara seldom talk. Who was in the audience? David Spade, Lisa Rinna and Carnie Wilson.

Lakisha Jones is pregnant with her second child, according to AccessHollywood.

The Season Six songstress (she finished fourth in the competition) has much to celebrate right now. Her debut album, “So Glad I’m Me,” hits stores on May 19, with the first single, aptly titled “Let’s Go Celebrate,” currently airing on radio stations around the country.

Congrats to LaKisha!

I didn’t watch Ozzie last night…looked like a train wreck to me, too.

I didn’t watch DWTS either but I was able to tell a nurse at mom’s facility who was eliminated. Why is that?

no osbornes for me either, Rodney, i too switched over to the end of DWTS. Pleasantly surprised that Lacy is still in there — Steve-O is not a great dancer but i do so like HER, lol…

and i was going nuts trying to figure out who chelsea hightower is (the new young blonde choreographer on DWTS) … DUH! She followed Lacy’s footsteps from SYTYCD!!!! I KNOW it’s a different network, but i wish they were allowed to give credit where due for the exposure and experience they got on SYTYCD. And Dance Crew, if anyone was watching this last season, the Crew that won – Quest Crew – had Hok and Dominic in it. They TOO never mentioned SYTYCD, and Shane, one of Crew’s judges, didn’t credit SYTYCD either. sorry that’s the case, they should ALL be promoting each other to raise dance awareness!!! IMHO.

I like to watch the performances a second time, the day after. Often I get a slightly different view of what happened, but I agree with several others that the separation is definitely taking place. For what it’s worth, my opinion of last night’s Poseidon Adventure (There’s got to be a morning after)
ALSO RANS:
Megan I would pay to see in a jazz club or cabaret. She’s personable enough that I think she could possibly have an acting career, but doesn’t really fit well with AI.
Scott: Anyone who overcomes a major handicap as well as he has deserves respect, but in the final analysis his skills simply don’t measure up to some of the others.
Anoop: talented frat boy. If the High School Musical Kids move on to college next year, give Anoop a part.
Matt: very good when he’s in his element, but inconsistent.
ON THE BUBBLE:
If Allison, despite her big voice, lands in the bottom three again tonight, it should be obviuous she needs to make some changes. Loose the precocious teen image.
Lil keeps proving that she can’t do much beyond a passable Mary J Blige impression. We wanted to think she was on the same level as Mandisa, Fantasia, Jennifer or Melinda but she’s fallen flat three weeks straight.
FAVES:
Danny has a huge fan base apparently and the best back story, but I question his versatility. A certain predictability is starting to creep into his weekly appearances. Still a solid performer and without a real disaster on his hands has to be considered a contender.
Adam is the polar opposite of Danny in style although, in my opinion, the strongest contestant in terms of talent. If he doesn’t win it will be because his image just annoyed too many people. His vocal range may be the best of any Idol contestant ever.
Kris has come from nowhere with several very good performances and if he can manage to capitalize on his good looks, could pull an upset.
DESSERT: Three judges were annoying enough. Four needs a strong directorial hand to enforce some discipline. Randy’s Yo Dog schtick is tiresome, Kara is trying too hard to be profound and is incapable of delivering a concise critique; when has Paula EVER contributed anything meaningful and Simon’s opinions are so extreme that they are rarely helpful anymore.

JT, I was not bothered by Allison’s hair last night either. But, I was bothered by her Bo Peep on steroids outfit. All she needed was a staff in her hand to complete the mental picture I formed when she first walked out.

Mmmm cotton candy!

Congrats to Lakisha. I watched the first bit of the Osbournes. The “kissing switch” gag has been done before, with chimps. It was far funnier then, youtube it. The 15 minutes of the show that I watched was a painful dud. Kelly is crude just to be crude, Jack is not as funny as he thinks he is, and Ozzie… well I just felt pity for Ozzie. The comments he made were sad.

Judges, I’m so sick of them. Sorry everyone, but if you are here in the offseason you will probably be sick of reading my anti-judge rants. That is the one thing that has stunk this year about Idol. I can’t stand that they turned the show into a judge love-fest, with poor self-indulgent judging, and the same tired old schtick. The only thing worse this year then the judges is the lackluster contestants. This is hard for me to say… real hard, but I’d take Jason Castro back over Megan and Scott, and possibly even over Anoop. Matt and Kriss are just forgettable for me, one played the piano in the mosh pit and one had the ladies screaming I can’t remember which. When one of my favorites is Adam, whose singing style I don’t like then you know I’m not really enjoying this year as much as I have past years of Idol. So far of my early favorites Allison is the only one to leave me happy week after week. This week not so much, but it wasn’t horrid. Danny has disappointed up until this last performance, and Lil has been a disappointment for every performance.

Sorry, I feel better now.

I know the mantra is: “this is a singing competition.” But, in fact, image and presentation are just as important as raw skill. And I think presentation is the very thing that’s killing Allison right now. It could be the very thing that sinks Adam’s chances since there are people who so detest him that they can’t see anything positive. And as the field of contestants narrows, enough people may choose to vote for someone else just to keep Adam from winning. It may not be a big deal for him now; I think he’s gained the exposure he never attracted trying to make it on his own, and will succeed, like Chris Daughtry, regardless of the Idol outcome.

I posted something on the last thread, but never saw it up there, how strange.
I am not going to type it all over, but just say, IMHO, last nights performances:
TOP 3 – Danny, Kris, Adam (in that order)
Bottom 3 – Lils, Anoop, Megan (in that order)

Megan REALLY needs to go home!

I think we’ll be saying goodbye to Megan this evening. Wouldn’t mind at all if it was Scott or Anoop. Not sure I’m willing to give Lil yet another chance or Matt, for that matter. They’ve done very little to impress me. Matt was great once, imo and has met that standard again. Lil, except for a great audition, falls far short of original expectations.

I agree deirdre, Lil just needs to find herself and stay true to herself and not worry about trying to ‘fit in’. I think if she does that instead of trying to reinvent herself each week, she will go far. I don’t see her winning anyway and think she may be able to find work after idol.
I like Allison and Adam, but really don’t have any idea of who would really go tonight. You just never know. See everyone this evening.

everett…we were in a severe drought until March came along…now we’re not in a drought at all. Y’all can keep your rain up in the northwest…we don’t need it anymore! :-) And that s-word….I didn’t move away from Buffalo so that I could see more of that stuff!

KPH…I get what Megan is TRYING to do but she doesn’t do it very well at all. Last night wasn’t the totally off-key mess that last week was but it verged on it. There’s a difference between singing 2 or 3 notes away from the original piece and hitting the notes flat. Megan is trying to do the former and ending up doing the latter.

Lil Rounds has so much potential. She needs some serious coaching to find her niche. Matt, Scott, Anoop and Kris, while likeable, are incredibly forgettable. Allison has a great voice…really like her. Needs a little more polish, maybe?

Who is the performer who’s ultimately going to shine? Nobody’s going to “make it pop off the screen and into American hearts” like Adam. I agree with Deirdre, he may be a polarizing contestant. That’s what it takes to emerge from the pack and be the Alpha Dawg.

I think we are all in agreement that Megan should and probably will go home, but I have a gut feeling that it won’t be her. I don’t see the judges using their save tonight neither. They still have 4 werks (after tonight) to use it and they will use it to save someone they all favor.

about last night, well…

i’ll just say:

you know how, when you pass a huge wreck on the highway, and you can’t turn away because you just somehow *HAVE* to know what happened, and what’s happening right then, and is everyone okay and who is it, and all that…

While the last two weeks have been utter disasters, I loved Megan’s Rockin Robin, and really liked her in the hollywood and semi rounds too.

One song I think she could knock out of the park is this little ditty by that amazing one hit wonder Melanie

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you’re avoiding me
I’m okay alone, but you got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike, I roller skate, don’t drive no car
Don’t go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don’t drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I asked your mother if you were at home
She said, yes .. but you weren’t alone
Oh, sometimes I think that you’re avoiding me
I’m okay alone, but you’ve got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out to see
La la la la la la la la, la la la la la la
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

You see Sarah, that’s the attitude that you get about Whitney or Celine or a host of others, even Michael Jackson. A song should NOT be a static piece of rock, but a living, breathing creation, continually living and touching lives. Yes, the original should not be messed with *as is* but if someone can give a song new life, WITH the CAVEAT that it’s done WELL, then by all means, do it! Should anyone have touched I’ll Walk the Line by Johnny Cash? Daughtry did … and it was GOoooooooooooOOOOOooooooD!

But more than that, I was talking about the style of singing…

HEY! maybe Megan and Brooke should get together and form some sort of girl-band thingy? folky, artsy, pretty, mellow…

I don’t necessarily agree about Megan going all girlie. She COULD very well be somewhat effective performing Brand New Key or Midnight at the Oasis. She might pull off a decent Edie Brickell imitation, but there comes a time in every American Idol season when certain contestants must realize they cannot win, but do have some commercial value. Megan and a few of the others need to start thinking about how they can capitalize on their AI exposure. I don’t believe Megan wins by becoming even more of a novelty act than she already is. If somehow she survives tonight, I hope next week she turns down the lights, leans across the piano and cranks up the flamethrower. She has a kid to raise, and promoting a career as a nightclub singer couldn’t hurt. I’d spend money to watch Megan sing torch songs. I wouldn’t walk across the street to hear Good Ship Lollypop.

April 1st, 2009
4:06 pm

Oh sarah, i can hear quite a few — Joni’s special, no doubt, but there ARE others! and again I say — to ME, no song is so “sacred” that it cannot be made fresh and new, either by being done in the original style but so well you enjoy the renewal, OR by being made different enough that it’s new, but still recognizable and good.

YES, there ARE times that songs are mutilated in an attempt to bring them modern styles or sounds…and those attempts should be quashed, but NOT the song itself! Don’t make a song so sacred to one singer that no one else dare perform it — how SELFISH is that???
