3/11: American Idol recap, top 13 results: Jasmine Murray , Jorge Nunez out (Poll added!)
My early brave pre-show predictions: Jasmine Murray and Kris Allen. Both are not necessarily the worst singers among the 13. They’re merely the dullest. I only hope Jorge gets another week to get things right. (Well, I was wrong about Kris. See below)
I am here a bit late. Fast forward the DVR to say… goodbye Jasmine. No surprise there. Everyone got that one right I’m sure. Kris Allen survived so that probably means Jorge is a goner. And yes… he is. Anoop was in the bottom three (presumably) but he is safe.
Loading ...Then Jorge has to ironically sing “Never Can Say Goodbye.” I liked that dude, especially his spirit. I’m bummed he’s out. But I guess folks couldn’t get past the “cheese” factor — or those eyebrows.
The concept of the veto power: the judges would get one shot to bring someone back if they felt they were eliminated unfairly. The show provided possible examples such as Michael Johns, Jennifer Hudson, Tamyra Gray and most famously, Chris Daughtry. Ryan asked Simon about whether they would have brought back Daughtry. He didn’t say whether they would have or not.
Obviously, the judges didn’t want to use the veto power now for Jorge or Jasmine. I wouldn’t have either.

Knowing Idol, the rule explanation will be light. They don’t want to paint themselves into a corner with complexity.
I actually like Kanye’s music, it is when the music is off that he annoys me.

Is anyone else hoping they ‘color up’ the results this season? Last season they did the calling out from back of stage thing and that got old and boring REAL fast…. I actually didn’t mind the couch routine… as long as they talked to the contestants a little before.
and i never posted my actual rankings so here they are:
1 & 2. Danny Gokey/Alexis Grace- Like their top 36 performances, these 2 are once again tied for me. But now that I think about it, i think I give Alexis the edge that week. This time, I think I give Danny the edge, but I really can’t decide. I did enjoy both of their performances, maybe Alexis a little more?
3. Adam Lambert- I didn’t think he was as brilliant as the judges said. But still good.

well, ok, I want Allison to stay. I think she has a lot of star potential. Of the rest of the vulnerable ones – Michael, Matt, Megan, Scott, Jorge, Jasmine, Kris — I have some people I like, but to be completely honest, none of them have a shot at winning (even Matt) and when they leave is a moot point other than who gets to go on the tour.
I don;t agree with Anoop being safe, but I like him enough to put up with him for a while longer.
The only ones I would truly have a kitten over losing any time soon are Danny, Adam, Lil, Alexis and ALLISON. The judges must save Allison if she is voted off tonight.

I went back and watched the performances again and what struck me is the overall quality of this year’s finalists. Any of the top four could step it up and win and I’d be comfortable with any one of them. There are three or four others who could make a run if one of the others should falter. Even the ones who seemingly have little chance to win don’t sink to the level of the previous seasons’ klunkers. Only Megan and Anoop hit their chins on the floor and that’s far fewer than I expected doing MJ tunes. And, at least as far as Anoop is concerned, it doesn’t look like the voters cared all that much.

Andi…the judges have a chance to save ONE person who’s been eliminated during the season. This is in response to eliminations that happen too soon, like Tamyra Grey, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson or Michael Johns.

hey hey chatters – joinin’ in a little late 2night: but as i was saying, i can’t say i’m surprised about jasmine. she was wasn’t good enough to stay in this talented field of 13. but as i said last night, with some work and some good producers, she could be a star in the vein of say, a brenda k. starr or a shanice. she’s got some vocals and looks. she could m ake it.
