3/2: Looking at the final 12 of the 36 in the semifinals

So what do we know about the final 12 we’re going to hear tomorrow? As usual, we have some favored children, a camera hog, a couple of eccentrics and not as much cannon fodder as the first two weeks.

Scott MacIntyre, of course, is the blind guy. We know all about him now. He had a great audition, an okay Hollywood performance. He is going to have to do awfully poorly not to make it through to the top 12 in my mind.

Nathaniel Marshall has gotten tons of airtime due to his drama king-ness. He’s polarizing like Nick and Tatiana. I can’t imagine he’ll make it regardless. Ditto with the overly theatrical Von Smith with those annoying facial expressions. Here’s Nathanial’s official interview with Idol:

And Von Smith’s over-the-top “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going”:

Lil Rounds has gotten universal praise and is in a good position to get votes if she does well. Her cool stage name doesn’t hurt either. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put her in the pimp spot.

Felicia Barton got some airtime but was cut from the top 36. She only got back in after Joanna Pacetti was dropped due to her connections with some 19 Entertainment execs. According to a fan Web site, she’s a worship leader, like Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen.

Plenty of Youtube video of her. She’s good!

Arianna Afsar is a young gal who is best known as creating a “be a friend with a senior” program for teens. She was pretty good in the auditions but was invisible during the Hollywood rounds. Relive her time on the show here, courtesy of MJ.

Kendall Beard is the blonde country artist a la Carrie Underwood. I don’t recall her being all that great, though. Here’s a refresher:

Ju’Not Joyner didn’t get much airtime until he sang “Hey There Delilah” during Hollywood. Not much back story but he was really good. He could be a sleeper. [Read more about him in the Baltimore Sun.](http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/bal-al.idol01mar01,0,336964.story) And here’s audio of his Hollywood clip:

Kristen McNamara. She was a finalist on “Nashville Star.” Plenty of video of her from then.

Also, she faced off against Jenn Korbee in the top 50 and Simon was not happy with the result. I’m not that impressed with her either.

Jorge Nuñez has fascinating eyebrows, really tight curly hair and a decent Latin sound but he doesn’t scream “American Idol” to me. He’s going to have to really surprise me Tuesday but he may get some female votes.

Check his audition here:

Taylor Vaifanua is only 16 but looks much older. She’s very chipper and pop-sounding. I’m not sure she’s going to stand out unless she picks the right song. Check out this slick promo video of her on YouTube:

Alex Wagner-Trugman is the geekazoid with the odd sense of humor who can actually sing. (Remember “Baby Come to Me” with Randy doing the chorus with him?) Watch him at rickey.org. Here’s just the audio:

And here’s his faceoff vs. Cody Sheldon when he sang “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.” That geekiness factor could help him out.

Good morning! Wow, Rodney! Thanks for all of the videos. They’re great!

NO SNOW AT ALL in Columbia, SC overnight!! Sorry for yelling, but I am bummed. I wanted a little bit at least. The University is on a two hour delay, but I did not know it until I was ready to leave, so I came on in anyway. Two other people are here early, too.

Wow…thanks for all the videos, Rodney.

I think this is a girl week. I like Felicia, Taylor, Kristen and Lil. Of the guys on the list…Jorge might be my only choice.

harriett.I can send you some of my snow if you want.

I would dearly love it, D! I was so disappointed and was like a little kid, checking out the window every little bit. We so seldom see snow her in the middle of SC, so I was really looking forward to it. I remember once when I was living in the Atlanta area, there came a really big snow around the first or second week in April. It sure snowed all around us, but none here.

I’m bringing this over from the previous blog entry;

I have to wonder if the wild card show will be live. In one hour, 8 or 9 people have to sing, then the judges have to confer and then the 3 finalists are announced. Unless the wild card picks sing like they do in the preliminary round…a brief sample, a capella…or maybe another dreaded “sing-off”(didn’t like that little addition) I can’t see how they’re going to fit that into one hour. They can’t even tell us the results in less than an hour!

I agree about the girls this week, D. I like all the ones you listed. Of course, Scott may make it through. Nathaniel has a decent voice, but mercy me, what a mess he is. I agree he’s somewhat on the order of Josiah, but maybe a bit closer to the edge emotionally. I kind of like the quirky Alex’s voice, but don’t think he will make it; unless he sings a killer song. Jorge has the best chance among the men in the last group, IMO.

Wow, this week has quite a few people that I just don’t like. Thanks to either the producers or the fact that they are unlikable. Nathan, Von, and Alex “I’m a deer caught in headlights” Wagner-Trugman. There is a girl to add to the list too, the one who was in Nathan’s group who had to rest her voice during group night practice. Let’s hope that this week is better than last weeks, but I’m not certain that it will be.

harriett

D, you’re right about the wild card maybe not being live, but what a disappointment that would be. I will hate it, too, if they don’t get to sing with back-up like the others did.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
9:28 am

They’ve all sung with back-up once…this, I think, will be a brief look and listen. I hope they get to choose a different song, too because most of them lost on song choice.

JT, I kinda like the girl from Mr Drama’s group, Kristen McNamara. Not sure she’ll shine above the rest of the girls but she has a good voice.

harriett

March 2nd, 2009
9:32 am

I think it was on MJ’s blog last week that there was speculation about whether they’d get a new song choice or not. If not, why bother? As you stated, it was song choice that got ‘em in the first place.

JTesla

Deirdre: I can’t see them holding the wildcard round like a normal performance show. That would cut the final decision process down to only a few minutes. We all know Paula’s choice will be all of them, so that would leave us with the other three duking it out. While that is good drama it’s too risky from a producers view point. Or maybe three judges will pick one wildcard and Paula will choose the official flavor of pudding for this seasons show.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
10:00 am

Considering that it takes 2 hours to get through 12 singers on a normal show, the wildcard show HAS to be different. I think it may be just a minute or less to listen to each one of them sing…probably with a tidbit of their previous performance.

harriett

March 2nd, 2009
10:04 am

I am disappointed in the wild card thing. Number one, because we don’t get to vote.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
10:14 am

I really am not upset about the wildcard. The judges have frequently picked someone who ends up in second or third place. Sometimes, without a wildcard, we end up with the likes of Kevin Covais or Sanjaya. The public is not always right on the money when it comes to picking contestants.

Lara

I was so confused about this week until I finally saw the tv schedule. They kept mentioning the wild card round – but I was like – dude, you still have 12 of the 36 to go….Do you think this much Idol in 1 week will turn people off?
I am not sure about this group – I don’t see much potential. I feel like they overloaded that first group with too many good guys!

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
10:19 am

So far, the people I see making the wildcard show are Anoop, Ricky, Anne Marie, Jasmine, Matt G, Jesse Langseth, Megan C. Unfortunately, that only leaves one or two more spots available for the third group.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
10:21 am

Lara…I think this group is overloaded with girls voices. I see 4 with potential.

harriett

10:23 am

I still think Jamar may be back.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
10:28 am

As much as I like Jamar…I think it would be TOTALLY unfair to the top 36 to have someone in the wild card round that wasn’t with them from the start. How would you feel if they did that to you? And the backlash, despite Jamar’s popularity, would far exceed the good will.

harriett

March 2nd, 2009
10:31 am

Didn’t say it was fair. Just speculation fueled by something that was published last week, saying that wild cards would come from the top 36.

harriett

March 2nd, 2009
10:31 am

Not necessarily come from.

JTesla

March 2nd, 2009
10:39 am

I have to agree with Deirdre when it comes to Jamar. He was robbed. I believe that he most likely would have been the top male last week, and would have cinched up the third spot in week one. He is one person that really shows the flaws in the pre-voting portion of Idol, the judges/producers will often put someone through for good TV instead of putting someone through based on talent. However, I can’t see that it would be fair to put him through after he got to sit for three weeks. Would he have made a decent song selection? Would he have crashed and burned? Would he falter under the pressure? With an automatic pass through the top 36 round we just will never know.

I won’t be upset if he does make it, because I do feel that he was robbed. However, if I look at it from the perspective of Idol at least trying to make this a fair competition then I don’t think it is right.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
10:40 am

I think that was just Simon adding fuel to the fire…he loves to do that. I, personally, would be very upset with them bringing Jamar back…don’t get me wrong, I believe he should have been in the top 36 in the first place but he wasn’t. We need to be seeing wildcards that already put forth effort in the semifinals.

harriett

March 2nd, 2009
10:45 am

Maybe it was Simon, just fueling the fire, D. That’s what I read and given Jamar’s talent and the mistake made by not putting him through…well, it isn’t fair, but fun to think about.

Anne24

March 2nd, 2009
10:51 am

Dierdre, when you say live show what do you mean? I thought the singers have been performing earlier in the day so what we see isn’t technically live. I think they will have the wild card selections sing earlier in the day too. And you know they could do the results show in 10 minutes. It takes an hour because they throw in the group sing, former finalist performance, and 40 minutes of commercials and a ten minute review of Nick.
They could also fit the 12 performances into an hour or 90 minutes. It takes two hours because of filler and 80 minutes of commercials!!!

Have you ever taped a two hour Idol and fast forwrded theough the stuff you don’t need. You can watch it in 20 minutes!
My point is they can easily do a 9 performance wild card show in an hour. They’ll have less filler and shorter reviews and maybe less commercials than in the 12 performance shows. And I believe they will decide who to advance based on the dress rehearsals which it seems like they’ve been doing all along.

Randy’s guy is Anoop “Dawg” so I’m pretty sure he’ll make it. I’m positive Tatiana will be back because they love her drama and she has been the second best singer imo. And Ricky should because that one performance made us all fans. But there’s also Megan, who Simon asked us to vote for and Jackie because they don’t have the token rocker yet unless you consider Adam B to be it. They were too negative towards the ones I like, especially Ann and Jasmine, ao they’re toast. The book’s wild open but I agree that we should vote on the wild cards. Having the judges do it is no fun.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
11:00 am

Anne…I believe the performance shows have been live….meaning, if you’re in the eastern or central time zone, you’re seeing the singers live as they sing. I think the results shows have also been live but I’m not sure about that. The only singing that isn’t live is the recap at the end..those are performances taken from the dress rehearsal because there’s no time during the show to put together the recap.

I think both Jasmine and Ann Marie will be in the wildcard show.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
11:01 am

I hope Tatiana won’t be!

JTesla

I believe that last year “Live” wasn’t really live. It was the pretaped thing, but from what I read they changed it this year so that live really is live.

I’d totally support a 10 minute results show. 5 minutes for the group sing and commercial followed by 5 minutes for the elimination tension. Wait, that is what the results show is now, it just has 50 minutes of commercials and other pimping added in.

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
11:10 am

So true, JT. But, I hear that Kelly Clarkson will be on a results show this month. Something to look forward to. On the other hand, I hear Jason “Dreds” Spicoli will be on a results show, too. There’ s an argument for both sides.

JTesla

Spicoli? What’s he going to do break out the ukulele and sing Tiptoe through the tulips?

Tomorrow’s shown will be as horrid as round 2. Look at he names. Only Lil and Kristen have shown any real singing chops and you know the judges will trash Kristen over her clothes again and because she’s a country singer although they won’t tell you that’s why. It would be great if Pacitti’s substitute came up with an Allison like showstopper. That would be quite a story to make the finals after having been cut from the 36.

I was high on Jorge until he made a bad song choice and displayed his faults. These are not great singers. All the talent was packed into the first 12 which made no sense at all unless they wanted a bunch of fodder in the second and third groups to help several pre-selected choices get through. I hope Von and Drama Quing aren’t two of them.

Stuff like that killed Antonella(that and her horrible singing) Why do people display their private lives on the web? Especially people who are looking for a career in the public eye.

A little late to the party but for Anne24 and others, here is the scoop :

Previous season top 24 male/female shows have been TAPED on MONDAY and then aired Tuesday and Wednesday. The Thursday results shows were shown Live.

THis year ALL PERFORMANCE and RESULTS shows are LIVE. Notice that says PERFORMANCE not Wildcard.

If I had to guess, I would bet that the wildcard performances will take place early in the day Thursday, and the judges will deliberate before the show. The taped performances will then be shown and possibly the judges deliberation in the first 45-50 minutes, then the judges DECISION will be shown LIVE. THAT IS JUST MY GUESS AS TO HOW THEY WILL DO IT.

Mike S

March 2nd, 2009
1:44 pm

HMMM, well I doubt Idol will do anything. But, yes, there may be a voter backlash against Adam

As for me, I WIN, my son and I both said our Gaydar was pegged when Adam performed, which still didn’t stop me from voting him first, but my wife was insisting it was an act. I think that argument is firmly put to rest. LOL

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how “America” reacts.

Well, darn. I like Adam. Don’t want to say buh-bye to him.

Call me ‘easily confused’ but this season of Idol is such a let-down so far. I certainly agree with those who comment on the seemingly unfair batching of contestants…too much talent in some groups and not enough in others. And right now I’m using the term “talent” very loosely.

Anybody have statistics on the ratings for Idol so far?

harriett

March 2nd, 2009
2:04 pm

Gay or straight, Adam had to know someone would find these pics and distribute them. I don’t really care that he’s gay at all. However, I do think his time on Idol will be over shortly. American Idol? I think not. And all David Hernandez did was give lap dances!

Deirdre

March 2nd, 2009
2:11 pm

I’m still voting for him if I like his performances…and so far, I do. He’s stage savvy, he’s got an incredible vocal range, he’s good looking(i’ll bet he even looks good without the eyeliner)and seems to be very comfortable with who he is.

But I have to agree with JT about the purple eye shadow…..he’s way more 80’s glitter rock than modern singer.

Anne24

March 2nd, 2009
2:15 pm

I could tell Adam was gay by the way he ran down the street with his yellow ticket after his audition.
It’s not like you all didn’t know Adam was gay by now. You knew he makes out with guys so why should the visual shock anyone?

My opinion is if you were going to vote for him knowing he’s gay then the photo or video shouldn’t change that. I won’t vote for him because I can’t stand his act. All he does is scream and he looks creepy with the makeup and the vampire hair. He’s a disappointing impersonation of Freddie Mercury and I think Freddie is the greatest male rock singer of all time.

Thanks for clearing up the “is it live or Memorex?” issue Mike.
On another note, does anyone else keep getting the message that blogs.ajc.com is experiencing a technical problem when you try to submit a comment?

Anne24 – I’ve given some serious thought as to why I decided to re-enter this blog commentary. Your questions in an earlier post truly made me examine my motivation. I don’t know why I become so prickly when race, color or creed become part of the conversation…in my heart of hearts I just want people to be perceived as people, regardless of external factors. We all bleed red. (Uh-oh…a mention of color.) But I thank you for the wake-up call. Thanks for listening and thanks for your insight.

This blog is intended for American Idol but sometimes it oozes over to other issues like friendship, gossip (love it!), and rumors. Even weather! Snow is now and always has been a four-letter word, imo. This is my feeble way of saying I like this blog and I’m always interested in what y’all have to say.

harriett

Adam is very talented. I just question his judgement. I voted for him, knowing he was probably gay and not caring. However, I do not see America voting him in as the American Idol. My point above was that David Hernandez was persecuted for his previous job, so Adam’s photos will probably arouse (no pun intended) much more adverse reaction among the public.

Being a male stripper like Hernandez could be seen more negatively because he is making a living at it. Is Adam’s photo or video, whatever it is, a professional thing or just him at a party. I haven’t seen it yet so I don’t know.
If he was making male porno flicks than that will ruin him.

If it is a caching problem why would posts not show up – then show up – then not show up? All with a refresh of a screen. I’m not as computer savy as I’d like to be, but that is some wonky caching. Especially considering that it only occurs on the AJC version of Wordpress.

Harm, just saw your shout out — it’s been pretty bad here; we’ve not had this much real SNOW in ever that I can remember — the 93 blizzard was more ice than snow, tho there was snow then. but after 2 years of drought, many of the tall old trees are dying or dead in the tops, and all that heavy wet snow has caused a lot of tree and limb damage, on power lines, houses, and roads. we were lucky except that right down the street a tree broke a power line, and things were tense.

About an hour ago, I reported JT’s 4:03 comment. I stated that I didn’t want the comment removed but that I wanted help with our posting problem. The following is the response I received which I think is kind and thoughtful considering I was ranting just a little bit:

The developers are aware of the problem and are working on the solution…
which is to create one common caching system across all our servers.
unfortunately, i can’t give you a fix date because of all the projects on their plate..
They do say that your comment isn’t lost. it’s just that
the cache hasn’t been updated on the other blog servers.

What happens is that if you post your comment, and you’re on
server 1, then server 1 has cached your comment. For about a minute
or so server 2 and server 3 haven’t been refreshed. It usually takes
a minute or less and then the cache is updated (assuming the blog is
doing a decent comment traffic…).

GAgirl…Glad you agree. Adam is so extreme you either love him or hate him. Kind of like Rush Limbaugh. Nobody just likes or dislikes him. Same with Marilyn Manson.
Adam’s voice is better suited for heavy metal than rock. He could have been AC/DC’s frontman because all that guy did was scream.

Glad to hear you are ok Linny.

So Deirdre is reporting me now? :) I experimented a week or so ago and found that posts up to 15 minutes old were coming and going with each refresh. Not that I’m trying to rag on the AJC technical staff, in fact I love them, appreciate what they do, and hope they don’t hack into my system.

You’re in BIG trouble JT!!!! :-) At least they are aware that the problem is theirs! That’s a step in the right direction.

Welcome back linny!
I’m glad you went only one day without power.
Ai is no fun to watch on a battery operated 6 inch tv.
And no heat = Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I know what it’s like to be without power for weeks and it gets frustrating real quick so I hope those that lost it all get fired back up tonight or use a generator.

GAgirl…right back to ya! :-)

Well it’s time for me to prepare the salmon and mac.
Hope you all are safe from the weather tonight.
Keep warm and I’ll see you here for round 3!!

thanks guys for the warm thoughts, lol. believe me, most anything warm at this point is well-welcomed! I’ve finally gotten the bathroom completely toasty so i can FINALLY take a shower….UGH!!! Just hope the hot water heater is FULL because I intend to drain it completely!!!!

Looking forward to this week’s AI broadcasts … because if nothing else, the controversy over the elimination and choices will be down to the final 12 like them or not. Hopefully we’ll see some SERIOUS competition and not a bunch of antique performers trying to make comebacks as mentors on a show that on the one hand is lauded as a stepping stone for folks who might not otherwise have a chance, and on the other treated as if it were a bad and worthless saturday morning cartoon!!!

Hey ya’ll!!!! Boy am I glad to be here. We had about 7 inches of snow, lost power and phone. Finally got everything back on. It was colder than a well diggers rear end. Don’t know if my feet and hands will ever warm up.

Since I didn’t get to post a quote earlier this morning, I think I will post one now: “The one who leads you makes no mistakes. The one who guides you has the right directions.”

Looks like it was busy on here over the week-end. Alot of different opinions and topics.

Thanks for all the Happy B’days you guys/ladies sent me. I appreciate them.

Rodney, I enjoyed the vids. Not to keen on the purple hair/eye shadow, but that’s him and not me. I intend to agree that I don’t think he will last very long on idol. He may last longer that we suspect because he definitly has the talent to sing and his voice range is amazing. I do like him and hope he does do well.

At this time, I will refrain from making any comments on the 3rd group and the wildcard. I just hope that the judges will stick to the wildcard from the top 36 in order to be fair for all involved.

Harm: Are you ready for 3 hrs of the Batchelor tonight? After the final rose ceremony, the “After the Rose” is on from 10 -11 pm. I think this is where he changes his mind. Just have to see that part.

Gonna hit the tub for a looooooong hot bath before Bat comes on, so I’ll see ya’ll in the morning. I will peek in a few times tonight during commercials.

Just checking by to see about Nana and Linny. So glad to see both are back and ok. I know what a horrible thing being without power is. Three years ago we had an ice storm and were without power for three days. It is a very emotional thing when your power finally comes back on! Talk to you both tomorrow. Hello to everyone else.

Well, hey! to linny and Nana….power outages are absolutely horrible. We lost power for a week a coupla years ago when the temps remained in the high 20s – I had to go to work to even take a hot shower! I remember how painful it was to get out of bed at 5:00 AM and wish for a cup of hot coffee.

Yes, Anne24, I live in Everett. I like to use it for a userID because all the characters can be typed with my left hand while my right hand remains on the mouse. You lived in Edmonds? Did you live in “the bowl?” Beautiful town.

OK, folks, on to another American Idol week………..

Well I watched over all the videos hoping that I would feel some attachment to someone, anyone. There is Lil and there is Jamar whose video is still under Ju’Not that is it. One person plus one person who won’t even be performing Tuesday night. I sure hope they make some good song choices otherwise I just don’t have much hope for them.

Not only is the show The Bachelor retarded, so is the actual guy who is the bachelor!!! Not a keeper!!!

Glad to know that you have regained your electricity Linny and Nana. Last time I lost mine was in 1995 after hurricane Opal came through. Worst week ever, I finally broke down and cried on the fourth day of the power outage.

Hey everett…We didn’t live in town. We looked for weeks but everything was too expensive. So we moved into a place on 244 st about a mile from Aurora. I loved it so much. We had the woods right behind our apartment. There’s nothing like that here in south Florida and it was never humid!

I loved the roadside coffee stands. They sure don’t have those in Florida. And the salmon was so good! Here’s the secret everett. But it when it’s on sale! I usually bought it at QVC or whatever that market was called.

I know what you mean about not having hot coffee in the morning with the power out. We had no power here for three weeks after Hurricane Wilma and no hot coffee was my number one complaint! Second was cold showers!!! They’re horrible!!!!

So do you check out our reviews before you watch Idol or do you wait until it airs there?

JT…You summed up tomorrow’s show in three words, “bad song choices”. That’s been the story to this point so why change now? Expect at least four or five pitchy campy pop tunes and a whole lot of screaming from Drama Queen, Von, and LiL. And wear a wet suit because Drama Queen will cry a river before, during and after he sings. Ear plugs folks! You’ll thank me later.

Well Harm, I did heat up instant on a gas burner but is that really coffee? My first cup of home brewed espresso was heaven! I closed my eyes and drifted away with each sip like they do in the commercials.
Okay, it’s bedtime. Sweet dreams everyone!

Good Morning All!!! :)

Today’s Quote: “May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more. And may nothing but happiness come through your door.”

Thank goodness for fireplaces when you don’t have any power. We sure did burn alot of wood.

Harm – I will have to agree with you about Jason. What a jerk! I got so angry with him last night. Would have served him right had Mo said “NO!” I have to see the second part tonight, but I will not miss Idol to see it. Will tape it.

Time to get busy here at the office. May not have much time today but will take-a-peek when I can.

Hope you all have a good day.

Morning!

Big doings today. Last of the top 36 perform. We can probably start making our wild card picks after tonight. If this group is anything like the first 2, we’ll pretty much know the top 2…number 3 is sometimes a surprise.

Nana, glad you’re back with us and warm today.

Joe has been dealing with some fakers and she usually can spot them a mile away but not so much lately. Spoilers(the right ones) are usually not available until the dress rehearsal ends and that’s usually around 6pm est. Challenge of the day: How many times can Deirdre use the word ‘usually’ in one post? :-)

morning blogsters. my feet are STILL cold even after half an hour in the shower (i plugged the tub so i would have hot water covering my feet, LOL, well for a few minutes anyway)… then… this morning 22 degrees and it appears the fuse to my heater/defroster fan blew… took forfreakingever to get the car warmed up!!! but i’m up and out… looking very much forward to next weekend!!!

Hard to believe we’re at 20 this morning and by Saturday we’ll be in the 70’s. Thank goodness.

linny, hon, you’re just destined to be cold for the next few days!

I wonder how many surprises and/or disappointments we’ll get tonight. After Anoop, Jasmine, Stephen, Kai, and quite a few others failed to impress us after great preliminary rounds, the outcome is always a toss up.

If Nate, aka Drama King, sings well tonight, I still don’t see him getting votes. Much like Norman and Tatiana, is ability to annoy far exceeds his ability to sing.

Well…here’s some relatively good news. Jason Castro was scheduled to perform on the results show tomorrow night. Due to time constraints (obviously Jason’s since Idol has lots of time to fill) he will not be performing. Now we all get to wonder what Idol will do to fill up Jason’s spot.

How about a finger twiddling contest.

Wood carving?

knitting?

Another group song?

Announce who just missed getting in the finals and let them sing again, too?
