2/25: American Idol recap, second 12 of 36

This (ridiculous dramatic pause) is the American Idol recap!

A horrible start! More bad song choices! Too many runs! An alter ego! Cutesy body wiggling! And Adam Lambert being over the top but yet remains the anointed one.

Overall, nobody really wowed me but there were some very good performances and three definitively awful ones. Two of them were favorites (Matt Giraud, Jasmine Murray) who collapsed.

My prediction of the top 3: Adam Lambert (12), Allison Iraheta (5), Jesse Langseth (9)

Folks who have a shot: Megan (7), Kris (6) and Nick (4)

Very outside shot: Kai (10), Matt B. (8)

Folks who have zero shot: Mishavonna (11), Jeanine (3), Jasmine (1), Matt G. (2)

(I’m making these predictions without looking at dialidol.com, which shows hot blonde Megan far ahead of my “Bette Davis Eyes” favorite Jesse, who may have to settle for a wild card shot.)

My order of how I liked’em, which may not remotely resemble yours: 1 -Jesse Langseth 2- Allison Iraheta 3-Kris Allen 4- Megan Joy Corkrey 5- Adam Lambert 6- Nick Mitchell 7- Kai Kalama 8- Mishavonna Henson 9 – Matt Breitzke 10- Jeanine Vailes, 11- Jasmine Murray 12- Matt Giraud

The judges swapped sides, due perhaps to some lighting issues. And they rotated judging so Simon doesn’t have to wait so long to get his word in! The post-song parent interviews are gone, too.

First up: Jasmine Murray, the high school student from Mississippi, gets the opening spot. She goes modern with “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles. This is what I call a bad song choice. Pure pop? Not her place. She sounds breathy in the lower registers. Even in the chorus, she doesn’t sound right. In the end, it’s kinda boring. Randy: “It was pitchy throughout all out.” Kara: “It was all over the place.” Paula: “You tried to change the song but you sang all around it and caused you to go off pitch. The confidence you had is great.” Simon: “I”m disappointed because I like you. You have the right look and attitude. You just don’t have a great voice.”

Second up: Matt Giraud. This highly touted contestant is a dueling piano player from Michigan who did a great job with “Georgia on My Mind” on the keyboard in Hollywood goes for Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” His voice sounds much thinner than Chris Martin’s. He’s also pitchy up front. His runs and vibratto are not helping the song. He’s not Justin Timberlake. The little hip shake is distracting. Bottom line: awful. Randy skipped saying anything. Kara: “You blew me away in Hollywood week. Tonight, I’m not blown away. You should not be singing that. You’re a bluesy guy but that was lost in this song.” Paula: “It was a risky song. You’re soulful… I saw your rehearsal. Your performance tonight was far better.” Simon: “It was verging on a horrible performance. Jerky, uncomfortable. It put me off you.” Randy ended for the first time and encouraged him to go back to Ray Charles.

Third: Jeanine Vailes, a Washington D.C. bartender who was not seen at all during the auditions or Hollywood round, is going to have to blow it away. She chose Maroon 5’s “This Love.” Bleh! This isn’t the type of performance that is going to allow her to stand out and get the votes. She’s doing the dang runs, too. Ugh. Enough! Paula: “It’s season eight.” Simon: “I thought it was terrible. You’re all choosing the wrong songs… you do have very good legs.” Randy: “The best part was the end when it was over.” Kara: “So overdone!:” She admitted to being under the radar and tried to compensate. (”Overcompensate!” Kara said.”)

Fourth up: Nick Mitchell (Norman Gentile). He decides to reprise “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” from Hollywood. Is he truly that one note? But heck, he’s so dang entertaining, how can you not like him? Or hate him? He’s an utter joke but we needed this at least for a few minutes. Simon: “I hope I’m speaking on behalf of America. I pray you do not go through to the next round. It’s horrific comedy.” Randy: “The vocals were definitely not happening… that was funny.” Kara: “At least we remember you.”

Fifth up: Allison Iraheta, a 16 year old from Los Angeles, decides to do “Alone” by Heart, a big risk considering Carrie Underwood blew it away three years ago. Ramiele, Carly and Gina have sung it, too. She has a memorable personality and honestly, I do like her a lot. She has a grainy voice, like she’s already smokes two packs a day. More pitchiness. (Evokes Kelly Clarkson) But overall, well done. Considering the crap we’ve heard so far, it was great. Randy: “You blew it out the box.” Kara: “This girl is serious. You don’t even know how good you are… You have serious chops. With the right song, you could have a hit on the radio.” Simon: “You’re the best tonight by a clear mile. It’s like the competition just started right now.”

<embed width=”360″ height=”291″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=”transparent” src=”http://s79.photobucket.com/flash/player.swf?file=http://vid79.photobucket.com/albums/j141/mjsbigblog/Semis-wk2/allison_semis-wk2.flv”></embed>

Sixth up: Kris Allen, who is from Conway, Arkansas, hasn’t gotten much airtime either. Just a week after Paula Abdul said do NOT sing Michael Jackson, he proceeds to sing “Man in the Mirror.” I love this song and shockingly, he’s solid. I really enjoyed his performance through and through. He had confidence and was NOT pitchy. Kara: “It still does not come close to what you did in Hollywood week. This was just the wrong song.” Paula: “I”m going to disagree completely. You showed your personality… You nailed it.” Simon: “I’m going to agree with Paula… I’m not going to say you’re the best singer. But what you did tonight. You showed some confidence and personality.” Randy: “You did it without the guitar.” (NOTE: This is the first time Kara has ever gone against everybody else to that extent.) He’s good but I’m not sure he’ll have a real shot at the top 12, especially given the competition among the guys.

Seventh up: Megan Joy Corkrey. She goes for “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Balley Rae. She’s pretty but wow, that is one ugly tattoo, uglier than anything Carly showed. Her body wiggling is awkward but she has a lovely voice. She ended a bit weak there but I like her. Paula: “You picked the right song. You’re just beautiful. The camera is in love with you.” Simon: “You’re a funny little thing, aren’t you? It started off really well, then maybe you got overexcited, you oversang the second part of the song. I hope America votes for you. You are relevant. You are current. I wish the vocals were a little bit better.” Randy: “I’m interested to see you in the other rounds… the smoky jazz thing.” Kara: “You’re a package artist. You’re very pretty. You stand out. You’re unique. With the right song, you could be a breakout hit artist on the radio.”

Eighth up: Matt Breitzke, the welder, picks a really dull ’90s hit by Tonic “If You Could Only See.” He does a perfectly faithful version. I don’t think he really adds anything to the song. Simon: “I really like you…but I absolutely hated that song. It was boring. It didn’t suit you.” Randy: “You needed something more exciting for me.” Kara: “It didn’t show us any side of you.” Paula agreed with everyone else.

Ninth up: Jesse Langseth, a single mom from Minneapolis, beat out Frankie Jordan in a singoff during the final 36 episode two weeks ago. She goes for “Bette Davis Eyes,” a song nobody has ever song before on the show. She has that strange Mikalah Gordon enunciation but otherwise, she is a pro. I loved it! Randy: “I thought it was okay… in this round, everyone here has to blow us out of the box… it was a five-note range.” Kara: “This is your best look. Your performance was slinky and sexy and interesting to watch. You took some risks you hadn’t really taken through the audition.” Paula: “I found you captivating.” Simon: “I think you’re forgettable… it was too cool for school.”

Tenth up: Kai Kalama, from San Clemente, Calif., didn’t get a huge amount of airtime. He goes for a classic by Jimmy Ruffen “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted.” His moptop hair is more memorable than his singing, which is good but not distinctive to me. Didn’t feel modern. I liked him, did not love him. Kara: “You had some pitch issues but you went out there and gave it your all. The song was a little old fashioned.” Paula: “You have a lot in you. You got the chops to do well in this business.” Simon: “The performance was quite corny. Something you’d hear at a wedding or hotel.” Randy: “It was so safe.”

Eleventh up: Mishavonna Henson from Irvine, Calif. is another person without a lot of airtime. Her “Drops of Jupiter” was perfectly good but she didn’t blow me away. Something is missing but I can’t quite place it. Paula: “It just didn’t excite me.” Simon: “It’s a great song. What we’re having an issue. It sums up you. You’re very serious. Technically quite a good singing. Something left me really cold.” Randy: “You feel so much older and you’re 18.”: Kara: “I didn’t mind the song. I love that song. It’s just you’re very put together. I want you to loosen up a little bit.”

Pimp spot, up 12th: Adam Lambert, from Hollywood, Calif., is Mr. Musical Theater. I always found him over the top. He goes for a little Mick Jagger. It’s not my taste but I appreciate his theatrics and his vocals. Paula: “I’m watching an Adam Lambert concert. You’re in a league of your own.” Simon: “I’m finding this one difficult. There are parts that were excruciatingly bad and some that were brilliant. This will be one of those love it or hate it performances.” Randy: “I loved it.” He calls him current. “A little manic. Just don’t overdo it.” Kara: “Your vocal technique and ability is outrageous.”

Here is the count on Randy: He said “Yo” 13 times; “Dawg” 2 times; “Man” 7 times; “Dude” 4 times; “Baby” 5 times. Looks like his fav word for the night was Yo.

Wow. What a terrible night. I was only happy with 5 of the singers, and only blown away by three. Tonight the A’s have it – Adam and Allison. Period.

1. Adam Lambert – Satisfaction – Wow! This guy has an amzing instrument. Unbelievable range. A little over the top performance wise, but just amazing vocals.

2. Allison Ireheta – Alone – Just stamped herself as the best female in the competition. Simply spine tingling vocals. What a voice for a 16 year old, but am I the only one that thinks she looks almost 30? That is my only complaint, she is a really old looking 16.

3. Matr Breitzke – If You Could Only See – Wow I cannot believe how diametrically opposed to the judges I am on this. I thought this performance was absolutely fantastic. A definate notch below Allison and Adam, but miles better than anyone else.

4. Megan Corkrey – Put your Records On – I love Megan, but this song is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Hate the song, love Megan. To her credit she made a horrible song bearable to listen to.

5. Kai Kalama – What becomes of the Broken hearted – Ok, I am an old guy and as such this song hit me where it counts. Plus, kai has an amazing voice, but I have to agree with the judges – he is a great singer but an old soul in a young person’s competition.

6. Myshavonna Henson – Drops of jupiter – Ok there is no doubt the girl can sing, but my god “drops of Jupiter”???? PUHLEEZE. Goof voice but nothing special.

7. Kris Allen – Man in the Mirror – Another mystifying song choice. Your one shot and you pick Jacko the Whacko???? Kris needed to explode on the seen after no camera time, and simon nailed it : He blew his one shot.

8. Matt giraud – Viva la Vida – Such potential, such talent, such a sucky song choice. All I could do was hang my head and shake it. Very disappointing. Maybe he will get a wildcard shot.

9. jasmine Murray – Love song – Second verse same as the first: Such potential, such talent, such a sucky song choice. All I could do was hang my head and shake it. Very disappointing. Maybe she will get a wildcard shot.

10. Jesse Langseth – Bette Davis eyes – Very good performance for Karaoke night at the local watering hole. She gets better as a drink more, maybe at the end of the night I will hit on her and take her home. OK – over the top with my comment, but you all know what I mean.

11. Jeanine Vailes – This Love – jeannine, we hardly knew you, and now that we do it was for a minute and a half too long!!! A total utter train wreck. BYE BYE

12. Nick Mitchell/Norman Gentle – And I am telling You – Ummmm…. yeah.

Do any of these kids ever watch the show. They all say they do. So why do they all insist on sabotaging themselves with disasterous song choices.

So Adam and Allison definately through. Thiord spot a fight between Matt B, Megan and Kai. Wildcard possiblities Matt G and Jasmine.

Top 36 Group 2

1. Jasmine Murray- I was disappointed as well. I said it, I said it. This was not the song for her. I’d love for her to be in the top 12, but with this she can’t cut it unfortunately. And with the judges’ comments, I honestly can’t even see her going through to wildcard, esp. with the limited number of spaces for it. She’s one of my favorites, though.

2. Matt Giraud- Uh… that was not great. There were parts that were good, but he seemed and sounded real nervous. Eh…..

3. Jeanine Vailes- We have never seen her sing until now. Anyhow- now I do wish she had chosen Love Will Lead You Back, taking back what I said about it being a horrible choice for someone we don’t know. It wasn’t horrible, but a little pitchy. A little messy. Not a great song. She does have a voice. I don’t like them switching order of comments by the way. That’s even messier. Why does Idol feel they must change up every little thing this season? Enough is enough. It was fine as it was.

4. Nick Mitchell- Annoying, desperate performance. I won’t be that surprised if he goes through. Yuck-o. It would be a shame though to let obviously better singers leave at his stake. The last note was actually good though. Anyway…. go home!

5. Allison Iraheta- I was surprised. She actually did well. We saw her Hollywood clip 2 weeks ago and I said she isn’t a very good singer. Well, after seeing her tonight I figure that I’m kinda wrong. She is pretty good.

6. Kris Allen- Eh.. he was ok. I definitely saw the confidence, so that’s good. I DON’T think it was a very good choice because it’s forgettable. He has a good voice, but the performance did zip for me.

7. Megan Corkrey- Another one of my favorites. I like Megan. I loved her audition. Tonight, with that song, I didn’t like it… as…much…as…I… wanted to. It was pretty good, but not sung as well as it should have been. She is so unique. It was definitely a good choice of song I feel, but she is another one of those who needs the right song to do real well. So, I would like to see her in the top 12, wildcard way or straight up tomorrow night.

8. Matt Brietzke- He was alright. He definitely has a voice, but it was just… ok.

9. Jesse Langseth- She has a cool voice, meh song though. The contestants this season seem to have a tough time choosing songs that are good for them. I’m not sure why, but they have so long to think about it, it’s like… what makes them think they’re gonna get through on things like that? You’d think they’d pick something they can tear up, not just something safe or in their comfort zone.

10. Kai Kalama- Nothing really to say other than read the rest above. Who is picking these peoples’ songs? Unbelievable that they are. Top 12 dudes- Gotta be much better than that.

11. Mishavonna Henson- I slightly disagree with the judges. I give her props for being somewhat of a standout on the night. She sang well and you know, we didn’t get to hear much of her before this. I kinda liked it.

12. Adam Lambert- He got the pimp spot. Strangely, because even though they may want to save the strongest for last, it’s just obvious that they over pimp. Oh well. Anyway, I agree with Simon that it is a difficult one. I didn’t love or hate it, I loved parts and hated parts. So it’s a mix. I like that he has a cool range and has a cool personality and great chops, but I can’t lie… I don’t really like when he goes real high and sounds like a girl. I just don’t. It bothers me. It’s more off-putting than on. And you thought Syesha Mercado was actress/broadway (which I kinda disagreed with)? Well look no further. You must not have met Adam Lambert. Ok, so I like him and he was the best of the night, fer sher, but I still don’t like the high notes too much. And the look is slightly getting better, but still not for me, the emo. But I like him. Cool.

I have voted all I care to tonight. I really am a fan of Adam’s talent, but he definitely needs to get over the musical theatre thing. His posturing during the first half of Satisfaction was not attractive and really campy. He needs to guard against “campy.” He needs to quit performing and just sing, because his singing is really, really good. I did not like his song choice, but his voice will carry him. I wish all of the contestants who make it through could read the blogs. We have really constructive criticism to offer.

I agree, Harm. He is good enough to be in the final few. I hope he can tone it down a bit. He needs to sing his heart out and quit trying to be “stagey.” It’s like he is trying to hit his mark on the stage, while emoting during the song. Just sing, for crying out loud!!! Hope he gets the message, ’cause I really like him.

Apparently the secondary theme tonight was to take songs I like & sing them really badly. Ugghh.
Jasmine- Utter disappointment.
Matt G.- I loved him before but this was bad. He sounded extremely nervous.
Jeanine- Awful
Nick- Well, he made me laugh.
Allison- Great job. My favorite girl of the first 2 groups.
Kris- He sounded good once he got into the song but I don’t think it was enough.
Megan- I’m with Justin, I wanted to like it more than I did. Still pretty good (as long as she doesn’t try to dance anymore).
Matt B.- I like him. I like this song. Something was lost in combination. But it was OK.
Jesse- Sorry, Rodney, something about her just puts me off.
Kai- Not an exciting song but he has a really nice voice.
Mishavonna- Totally wrong song for her.
Adam- OK, I may get yelled at for this but I have never been the slightest bit impressed by the Rolling Stones, therefore I didn’t care for the song. But… he sang really well & there sure weren’t any nerves.

Adam & Allison are the top guy & girl by a marathon-length. After that??? Megan, Kai, Matt, Matt… pick one ( I am, of course taking earlier performances into account).

1. Nick – Sorry to the purists, but his Norm act is absolutely hilarious. Big, big fan. I really hope he makes it.
2. Megan – Something about her voice just grips me. Hate the tattoo, but I really love her sound.
3. Allison – Hate the song she chose, but what a vocal powerhouse!
4. Kai – I wanted to hate him (that hair, wtf?), but I ended up really liking his voice.
5. Adam – I definitely respect the vocal chops, but his overdone theatrics annoys the hell out of me.
6. Matt B – Good, but too safe and soft on the vocals
7. Kris – Barely remember his lame Michael Jackson thing
8. Jesse – Whaaah? She has that melodic, quirky voice and chooses the grittiest song of all time?
9. Mishavonna – Wasted her talent with this terrible number
10. Jeanine – Nice gams, but terrible song choice and poorly done
11. Matt G – ZZZZZZZZZZ
12. Jasmine – What were you thinking, girl? You have a solid voice somewhere underneath that train wreck.

Awful second round. I’d rather pick 6 from the first round and send tonights 12 home.

Thanks for keeping count Nana. :-)
If we were taking shots, Randy’s 13 “Yo’s” would have us spinning without the 7 “mans” or 5 “babys”. I like how Simon criticized him for calling Kris baby. So what’s worse for Randy? Calling a guy “baby” or a woman “man”? Both sound silly to me. Only 2 “Dawgs” because Anoop wasn’t in the house. There were also about 5 “pitchys” and several “jumpin offs”.

Now my rundown in order of who I liked.

1) Matt B. – Not a great performance but none were. Was on key the whole time. Sounded very good. Should have been delivered more powerfully but still best of the night. Simon has no taste in country or rock. The Daughrty of season 8.

2)Jasmine – Song was pop when she should have sung blues. But still sounded and looked great. Deserves a chance to perform a better song because she’s proven her talent.

3)Allison – Nailed Heart! Slayed it as Randy would say. A bit too high pitched and remember the rocker chick who nailed Barracuda in her audition but was a disaster in Hollywood. So my book is still open on Allison. She may just sing Heart well. Hated her awful red dye job and trashy outfit. Her look is revolting. Jasmine looks much better.

4)Kai – Nice voice. On key the whole time but his look disgusts me. Find a hair stylist. Fast!

5)Mishavonna – Sounded good. Karaoke like to me but so are my remaining 7. Looked okay too.

6)Megan – Sounded alright until she went high pitched and started shouting. Karaoke singer and song. I hate her tattoo sleeve. Have it on both arms if you must have it because on one arm looks strange.

7)Kris – Sounded karaoke but is the cutest guy left in the competition which is why the judges falsely hyped him. Every final needs a teeny bopper heartbreak kid.

8)Matt G – Sounded terrible on a pop tune. Like Stephen last week, should have stuck with a blues or r&b legend. He nailed Ray Charles and Stephen nailed Stevie Wonder then they both went pop and blew it. Why do the good singers shoot themselves in the foot?

9)Jesse – Made me cringe. A total insult to Kim Carnes. Shouldn’t have tried to sound like her because she doesn’t. Was off key and weak. Sounded like a karaoke singer after taking shots every time Randy said “Yo”. And the judges liked her better than Ann Marie. What an insult to Ann!

10)Jeanine – Absolutely atrocious. Had no business in the round of 36. So bad the background vocals make her sound completely off key.

11)Adam – Strong voice but bad enough performance to kill Mick Jagger and have him rolling in his grave. Adam is not sexy and the body gyrations (sp?) were brutal to watch. At times sounded like he was performing a parody of Freddie Mercury, which had Freddie rolling in his grave. The high pitched screaming scared my cats! See you on Broadway.

12)Nick, aka Norman – Never belonged on Idol. See ya!

What a painful show. Half way through and I don’t know if I can finish. Megan is on now. Hot, love the tat, but that wiggle kills it. Allison is the only one who eased my pain.

Six papges of comments!!!!! It’s amazing that we all seem to have the same thoughts and ideas on whom we liked and disliked. I don’t see the top two being no one but Allison and Adam. The third spot is up for grabs, although Megan/Kris will be a tight race.

What in the world was that last night? AI has lost its charm if the crap we saw last night is all they could find. I heard 2 people that barely did well and Adam L. YUK! Another Clay Akin… gay guy who their trying to make into a ladies man.. GIVE IT UP! He can’t sing… He can yell well though! He should stick to heavy metal… His performance last night was difficult to endure. HECK, the majority of them was difficult to endure.. YUCK!

Well Dial Idol is pretty clear cut for last night :
Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert are safe according to DI.

Third is a battle between Matt giraud and Jesse Langseth, With Matt Brietzke and Kris Allen with a small shot.

OUCH! I don’t get what’s been going on with Idol this season. This Top 36 seemed to be a really great group, but almost everyone is either choosing crappy, ill-suited songs or just not singing well.

Last night was even worse than week 1. I don’t get the Adam love. The guy is too theater for me. And even Randy said what I’ve been saying all along, “Twilight: The Musical!” Though, considering how popular that series is, finding the singing Edward Cullen wouldn’t be bad. Ha. As far as who he looks like, he actually reminds me of a cross from Jim Verraros (Season 1) and Elvis. I think his look makes him seem like he’s trying too hard, IMO. But we shall see.

Allison: When she said she was singing Alone, my immediate reaction was: “NOOOO!” Just because it’s been done way too much and hello, Carrie killed it. But she definitely surprised me. I’d rate hers right behind Carrie’s version. I do have to say that she seems awfully likeable. My roommate said her personality reminded him of Kelly. I don’t know about that. My thing with her is her hair. It looks like back in the day when kids would dye their hair with Kool Aid (Am I dating myself? Wait, I’m the kidlet here…nevermind!) Anyway. Get her a new hairstyle, please.

Normund/Nick/Whatever had me rolling. The guys should definitely NOT be on Idol. I find it funny, but highly ironic that they’re giving so much airtime and attention to someone who is clearly making fun of the whole show. Maybe that’s the point?

Matt – I loved Matt, but what happened? I mean, that was painful. His voice was weak and shaky…it’s a bummer.

Kris – I had no idea who this kid was at all, but wow. I was very afraid of the song choice, but he was actually quite good.

The others went from “ai’ight” to “dreadful”. So, blah. My top 3: Allison, Kris, and I don’t know…maybe Megan/Jesse.

PS. Totally forgot this, but what’s with all the mentions of Kelly these days? It feels like they’re name dropping her at any chance. Trying to give themselves credibility or helping her out since she went to the “reunion” at Disney? I mean, just sayin’.

Morning. I cannot see Jesse–sorry Rodney–because Megan was so much better, IMO. Allison was by far the best performer last night. I really love Nick/Norman, but he does not belong on Idol at all. I hope he gets noticed in the comedy circles and at least gets a good gig out of this. But his being there has worn waaay thin. I am like Simon, praying that he does not go through. Don’t think he will, though.

My top 3 were Allison, Adam (he has got to get over the show biz stagey thing and just sing), and Megan.

I’m not looking forward to tonight. How, oh how will the producers milk the Nick thing. If they have him standing with the last person, then they really need to work on their originality.

K&Cfan: the Kelly name drops are comic. Does one person a show really sound like Kelly? Or are you trying to milk her fame. Oh, and why isn’t anyone ever compared to Taylor Hicks? I’m surprised his name didn’t come up during Megan’s painful to watch twisting.

I didn’t mind it because it shook things up. And I was glad to finally see Kara disagree vehemently with the other three. That didn’t happen at all last week. Of course, she focuses far more than the others on commercial radio viability and places a lot more weight on what she saw during the auditions and Hollywood (though in many cases, you and I did not see what she saw)

Rodney, I sort liked last night’s “out of order” seating and judging. It made it fresher than week 1. I do think that they spent way too much time discussing Normund/Nick, but I guess that’s to be expected.

As far as Kara, I like her comments. Commercial radio viability is quite important. I mean, isn’t that the point of the show? (Paging Taylor Hicks!). I appreciate that she seems to want to find someone who can fit in the current landscape. Though, it could be limiting for some of the more “different” contestants. When it comes to placing more weight on the earlier auditions and Hollywood, I’m guessing she’s cutting them some slack. For a lot of them, it’s the first time performing in such a large stage. If you’ve got a genuinely great voice, it’ll shine through. Stage presence and confidence can be worked on and learned, to an extent. I don’t know. She sounds knowledgeable and, while she does give constructive criticism, she’s also quite honest.

Good Morning Good People. Last night was a let down compared to the first group without a doubt. I did like Allison Iraheta best I also thought Matt Giraud and Matt Breitzke both did good jobs in spite of what the judges said. Sorry but Adam Lambert butcherd that song I just dont see what the judges see in him his singing is borderline high pitched screaming and his sissy style dosent do much to impress me either. The dual pesonality wierdo Nick needs to go this is a singing competition not a damn freak show. OK I’m done now sorry about ranting a little bit. :-)

Rodney: for some reason the judging fell flat for me. It was uninspired, they seemed to be going through a routine. The order didn’t bother me, but once again Simon was the only one who was straight forward. Kara’s talk of past auditions was a cop out for not being straight forward. Listening to three judges ramble on about how “good” someone was in the past is boring. They have to show me not tell me, and when the contestants were bad it was almost as if the judges were trying to justify why that person was in the top 36 after stinking that bad.

Nana

RH, I liked the rotation of the judges. It gave them all fair time to comment first on to last. They should keep that format. It seems like every season the producers and judges will select one that they will pimp and will try to persuade the American public to their way of thinking. Is this right or wrong? I don’t have the answer but IMO, it doesn’t seem fair.

I will agree that Nick/Norman should NOT have been in the top 36. His comedy routine is not what AI is about. I took my dog out last night after he started his performance. And that awful head band just needs to go away. I can’t see him making the top 12, but stranger things than that has happen. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

It is intersting that the judges make a negative or positive Kelly comparison on every show. Last week, it was slamming Ann Marie for not singing the Aretha song as well as Kelly. But no points lost for Allison not singing alone as well as Carrie. So Kelly has become the model that every female singer is held up to? Why? Carrie and Jennifer H. are so much better than her. Is it because Kelly is back on the Billboard charts and the judges have a vested interest in keeping her there? THere is so much $$$$ behind the decisions the judges make.

Last night’s opinions seemed pre arranged to me. At least three were in complete agreement on most singers and they kept saying “what WE’RE trying to tell you” as if they had a meeting before the show and decided what they were going to say about each one. It seemed as if they were reading from a script, especially on their praise of Kris who wasn’t anything special and Jesse who, in my opinion, made no impact on Betty Davis Eyes. And way too much time was wasted on Nick. Poor Jamar. He must me wondering what the heck he did wrong to lose his spot to that clown.

To the Nick haters. I have to state 2 facts (subjective facts anyways) on him
1. He is very entertaining.

I guess he truly is a love em or hate em contestant.

AI will be around as long as they are the highest rated show on television and as of right now they are waaaay ahead of second place. I have said this before however it would make the show much better if they raised the age limit.

kelly&carriefan

February 26th, 2009

I think the Kelly mentions are basically because she IS on the charts. They’re just propping themselves up as in, “Well, look what we found!” Kind of pathetic, yes. I think Kelly’s moved past it, but for better or worse, she’s where she is because of the show. At the same time, she is reason the show made it. They got lucky to find her, and were also very lucky to find Carrie.

As far as the Ann Marie vs. Allison. Yes, both chose songs that defined the best singers to come out of Idol. Allison is so different from Carrie that it would be weird to compare them just because they sang the same song. Ann Marie (and I like her) just wasn’t as good as Allison. That said, I still think we’re going to see Ann Marie again for the wildcard. The girls haven’t been overwhelmingly good. If two guys advance tonight, the judges will try to bring back more girls in an effort to even it out. I see Ann Marie and Tatiana coming back.

Good afternoon all! Just reading through today’s comments.
Rodney, I do like the shakeup of the judging order to a point. As much as I like Simon injecting the reality dose at the end, it was interesting to see if they had their own original thoughts after him.

JT – I was saying something last night also about Kara commenting on the past performances. It was just meaningless to me, especially not having seen several of them. They were singing for their lives to get in then. Most of them don’t seem to be putting the same heart into it now that they’re here in the top 36. Critique them on now.

Anne24 – Interesting what you said about the pre-arranged judging. It’s as if they already made all their notes in dress rehearsal. (Paula and Jason Castro anyone?)
