2/24: Chris Sligh up for Dove Song of the Year

Chris Sligh from season six has had some success in the Christian field and the Christian Dove Awards has rewarded him with a Song of the Year nomination for “Empty Me.” He’s also up for New Artist of the Year. Mandisa was also nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. (Her second album is out next month.)

Check out Ruben Studdard’s “Together” song. It’s a love ballad, of course. Ruben is sticking to his strength. His album “Love Is” comes out in May.

A status update of Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Will Suck Without You” on the top 40 charts. The song is up to 7 from 8 last week, with 1,000 more spins than a week before and about 2,000 spins behind the No. 1 song “Circus” by Britney Spears. This means I expect she’ll hit No. 1 in two or three weeks at this pace.

Of the first 9 who didn't make it last week, who should make it on the wild card show? (Pick up to four)

Jennifer Hudson’s “If This Isn’t Love” is at No. 24 on the urban chart. Carrie Underwood’s “I Told You So” is still increasing spins and is up to No. 15 but a top 10 spot is not 100% assured. Kelllie Pickler’s “Best Days of Your Lives” is at No. 30. Not sure if it’s going to get much higher. Josh Gracin’s “Telluride” appears to have peaked at 33 and is falling. Sligh’s co-written Rascal Flatts song “Here Comes Goodbye” is moving up steadily and is at No. 12.

Nana, I think Jillian will be the next Bacherlorette because they pretty much asked her last night and she said she would.

Woodpappy,I agree with you about S. Penn or any other celebrity who use their celebrity status to preach to me about any issue, wheather I agree with their veiws or not. I’m perfectly capable of thinking for myself! I’m confident the rest of you are too! ( I couldn’t find the soap box,did Deirdre use it last?)

Harm, D may have taken it with her. She said she’d be gone until Thursday.

Lara, I don’t see any on the spoiler list that I would put in the category “don’t ever sing one of their songs.” IMO, the Michael Bolton and the Roy Orbison songs may be the most difficult vocally, because of the range needed. Of course, they could change the arrangements.

Congrats to Chris for both nominations. :)

I expect Kelly will be doing pretty amazing in the charts this year. All I Ever Wanted is a great little album. And remember this one, Cry. It should be a huge song for her. (Yes, I’ve heard the album…and yes, I can’t wait to buy it!) But I believe her next single, after MLWSWY, is scheduled to be If I Can’t Have You. (A really catchy tune).

Carrie…I don’t understand why they chose I Told You So as a single. Unless it was just meant to show that she can do more “traditional” country and not just pop country. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the song that ends her streak of #1s. (I don’t know that the girl can keep going forever with that). IMO, The More Boys I Meet or Flat On The Floor would’ve been a better choice to follow the slow ballad (Just a Dream).

“Best Days of Your Life” is still Kellie’s single? Wow. I would’ve expected them to release a new one. I’d go with Rocks Instead of Rice.

As far as the wildcard, I’d go with Anoop, Ricky, Ann Marie, and Stevie. Yes, Stevie did horrible with her song, but she can definitely sing and that was just nerves. As far as Anne Marie, I think her downfall wasn’t vocals, but song selection. Ricky, will be back. He’s this year’s Clay…

Me too, but i also voted for Stephen, because i think he’s got some great bluesy talent hidden in there, if he can just get beyond himself, so to speak. i canNOT believe 2 people voted for whineygigglegirl! sorry…. i know she can (sometimes) sing but…. she’s WORSE than fingernails on a chalkboard!!!

I cast my votes for Anoop and Ricky. Bring back anyone but Tatiana. :(

Harm: I had already read that Jillian would be the next Bachelorette. She deserves to be after the way she was done. She was so cool last night and the audience loved her. She will do well as the next one. I’m not so sure I like Jason as much as I did earlier on.

re Bachelor/ette — i don’t see how i could “fall in love with” anyone who would be willing to pit 25 wo/men against each other for my attention, somehow “grow close” to all of them at one time, publicly (camera-watched), and expect to have ANY sort of real world life with such a person — nor would I or could I even imagine being one of the 2-dozen idiots who think something truly meaningful will come from this.

As with AI, of course we only get to view what the producers what us to see but — come on — after about 2 weeks, even Jason’s “pretty smile” turned a bit phony to me. (not that i watch it every week — i watch maybe 15-20 minutes every other week or so, when i’m waiting for something else to start (like 24), i guess there is some sort of perverse curiousity about what people DO in those situations that is fascinating to me, LOL

What gets me on the Batchelor/ette is that all the people are very attractive and I don’t see any reason WHY they can’t have a relationship on their own without going on national TV. I guess it just gives them their 15 minutes of fame. All the wo/men always seem to fall in love but it doesn’t last longer than the season. The only couple to have made i work has been Kritsa and Ryan. They married, had a son and now have baby number two due. I would never put myself on there.

BTW, congrats to all the idols listed above. They deserve our applause.

I think Ricky should be an automatic wild card. He might be the best male singer of them all but he needs airtime and the judges hype to get the votes. It’s a mystery why we didn’t know he existed until the brief glimpse of him in the mansion when he faced the judges. All the attention during Hollywood week went to the 2 Drama Queens
and the Clown.

Since there’s only three wild cards, I don’t think the show will select them all from the first group of 12 which leaves out Stephen, Ann Marie, Anoop and Tatiana who all sounded great to me, even on songs that didn’t suit their voices. The fact is, there is so much talent this season, alot of singers that would have been top 12 in other seasons will be left out in the cold.

I’m not worried about Ann Marie’s future. Josh Gracin, Bucky Covington and Kellie Pickler have proven that you don’t have to make a big impression on Idol to have success in Nashville.

Well according to the schedule the Wild Card Round will be on Thursday March 5th and it will be a 1 hour show. That doesn’t give much time to perform and impress the judges, their minds will probably already be made up as to who will go through.

That week will be busy for Rodney. Interviews from the 3 contestants of the third group and intereviews for the 3 wild card contestants. No vacation that week!

JT, personally I think they are picking out the wild cards the very night that they are voted out (wednesday usually, thursday this week, blah blah) as in — who to give that oooooonnnnnne last chance to (oh god, you just KNOW whineygigglegirl will be back, she’s waaaaaay too much “good tv” to ignore … however, i think they may be thoroughly surprised when people turn OFF the show because of her!!!

Good Morning….. :)

Today’s Quote: In order to be BIG, you have to think big. If you think small, you’re going to be small.”

I have the perfect place for our missing blogger. Since she hates the cold Georgia has been having, hubby took her to a warm island with white sandy beaches, cool ocean breeze, blue skies and sipping on some exotic drink. Ohhhhh, I wish I were there.

Not winning idol or even placing in the top 5, doesn’t mean that one can’t make it in the country music field. I agree with what Anne24 said about making impression.

Did anyone catch any of the State of the Union speech? I didn’t even turn the TV on at all last night. Hubby and I went to dinner, went and got new cell phones and came back home so I could program his phone for him. Had to set up his voice mail, contacts, etc. You get the picture. He had no clue how to do any of this since this is his first time having a cell. So no TV for me.

Good morning all. I think the missing blogger is at the Braves’ spring training camp. It is warm there, too, fitting with your idea, Nana, that she is escaping the cold GA weather.

I watched college basketball last night and was excited that Florida lost to LSU. That puts my Carolina Gamecocks in a tie for first place in the SEC East. Of course, that is going to be tested tonight, when South Carolina plays KY. That’s the other team that’s tied for first place. I am really in a pickle tonight. First, I can’t possibly miss Idol, but my team is playing on TV, then there is Lost. Woe is me!!!

Happy Wednesday, y’all!

I can’t wait for tonight’s show….I steered clear of TV last night. Instead, we had a Scrabble tourney at the house. Such party animals that we are…ha. I figured the news would update us to death on the speech. I don’t want words, I want action! ;)

As far as Anne Marie, well, I don’t know. During her “intro” they mentioned that she’s a demo girl in Nashville, so…it begs the question, if she’s that good, why hasn’t she been discovered yet? That made me wonder. Then again, she could just be like Melinda and need a push. So, even if she doesn’t come back on the show, she’ll still be in that environment.

I do have to say that Bucky and Kellie did make an impression…Josh Gracin really got lucky ’cause there really hadn’t been a male country singer on Idol before him.

I do like this game of “Where’s D?” My guess: she’s somewhere in Africa adopting a child. Wait, is that still trendy?

Nana, thanks for the offer, but I cannot miss Idol at all. And, linny, I have actually gone and bought what I thought I needed to watch two tv’s side by side, but I needed more stuff. I have three tv’s throughout the house, but my sister will be watching one of them. I do not know how many shows I can record at once, but am afraid of missing both of them if I try two at a time. I do have a dvr from Time Warner Cable. Guess I could ask them. Right now my plans are to watch the beginning of the ball game at 7, switch to Idol live at 8, cutting back to the game during commercials, then recording Lost. It drives me crazy to record Lost, though. I keep wondering what is going on while I am recording it. This is all I can think of to do, anyway. Thanks for all of your ideas!

And, linny, I love your idea of where D went!

So I’m looking at the women’s lineup for tonight and thinking “who?”. It looks like a walk thru for Jasmine since the other girls got Ricky airtime in Hollywod. Even Jasmine got little airtime, but she sounded fantastic when she did. I’m looking at Jorge and both Matt’s to have a shot to solidify a top 12 spot and Nick the Nut should be relegated to wild card possibility, no matter how hard the judges try to convince us to vote for him. I say Stop The Insanity and put 12 singers, not characters in the final. I know the ratings need a boost but turning Idol into a sideshow is not the answer. And if Kara calls Jorge “George” again I’ll get sick. It’s “hoor-hay”.

Hoping Idol realized its mistake and makes Jamar a wild card. Funny that Taylor’s new cd is mentioned here and only one person acknowledges it with a simple LOL! lmao!!
Didn’t you all vote for him?
