2/18: American Idol recap – Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey in

As expected, Alexis Grace and Danny Gokey make it in. And Michael Sarver snuck in ahead of Anoop dawg. Tatiana looks like she’s about to collapse as Gokey sings “Hero” again. (I can’t help but laugh maniacally at her as she cries and cries and cries and cries…)

Next week: the show is Wednesday and Thursday instead of Tuesday/Wednesday. Pres. Obama has scheduled his first “State of the Union” address next Tuesday at 9 p.m., which would be a major conflict with a two-hour “Idol.” “Bones” will have a special 8 p.m. showing that day.

The performers for the second round of semifinals: Megan Corkrey, Kris Allen. Mishayonna Henson, Matt Breitzke, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud, Jasmine Murray, Kai Kalama, Adam Lambert. Jeanine Vailes, Nick “Normund” Mitchell and Jesse Langseth. The favored kids are the two Matts, Jasmine and Adam, while Nick has had the most airtime. Kai, Megan and Jesse have had a little bit of time. Cannon fodder: Allison and Jeanine.

The group sing left me with very little impression beyond Stevie Wright holding a high note and Alexis Grace looking a bit like an extra from a Janet Jackson video circa 1990.

Who’s out first? Casey “wink like Sarah Palin” Carlson. No shock. I bet she had the fewest votes period. Then Stephen “Shouldn’t have done Michael Jackson” Fowler is out next. I bet he probably got the fewest votes among the guys. I don’t expect either to be back for the wild card.

First one in? Alexis Grace. She earned it. I know I wasn’t a huge fan but she was the best female and seems like a sweet gal. And here’s a switch. The winner gets to sing her song. (Her dad who resembles Meatloaf is crying!) And honestly, I did enjoy her the second time around.

Jackie Tohn and Ricky Braddy are up next. Both are goners. I’m sure Ricky will get a shot at the wild card. Jackie? Maybe based on her quirky personality.

Now it’s between Michael Sarver and Anoop Desai. Sarver is in. Dialidol fans rejoice! The site got it right. Don’t worry, Anoop fans. He will be back for the wild card show guaranteed.

Break time: former Buckhead denizens Carly Smithson & Michael Johns from last year are back! Carly gets to talk about losing her luggage (and weave). Michael gets to namedrop his new album out in May and single in a couple of weeks. Then they sing “The Letter.” Kind of random of a song to pick from the Box Tops. But the do it well.

Now they get rid of Ann Marie Boskovich, Stevie Wright and Brent Keith lickety split. They don’t even get to go to the center of the stage. Says a lot about their chances of making it to the wild card. Not.

The producers smartly pair off Danny Gokey with Tatiana Del Toro. As we all know (via dialidol.com), Danny is the man with the most votes. He is through, of course. But we know Tatiana will be back for the wild card. How could the producers resist one more day with her???

Soon as people figure out that our fore-fathers gave us guns as a basic right in order to protect ourselves from our own gov’t and to keep our gov’t from getting too big for it’s britches then they might understand. Think about the war we had just been through before the constitution was written…it was because of the British crown trying to usurp our rights and our freedoms. The size of the new gov’t was foremost in their minds when they wrote the constitution. The country was supposed to be for the people by the people and gov’t was not supposed to interfere with the rights handed down to us…..

HArm, I do think you have passed the time limit you are allotted without giving us an Asa update … :-D

As for my lil angel, Elizabeth has learned how to wave BYE-BYE. As soon as she gets put in her car seat she starts opening and closing her right hand in that little baby wave. It is so cute.

And, she is definately saying Paw-Paw. WOOT!!! Says it every time I walk in the room, she will look up at me , reach out her arms and go “paw paw”.

7 1/2 months old and she already knows who is going to hook her up with all the cool stuff. hehehehe

Mike S, isn’t being a grandparent fun? I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just wait till she gets big enough to ask for change, then the next thing it’s dollar bills. I let mine do things that I would never let my children do, like play on the bed after it’s made up.

I just spoke to Asa on the phone, it was his first phone call. I told him that I would see him a little later today, I have a date with his mother. I don’t
think he wants us to leave him alone with his dad tonight, he wants to come with us, he told me so! I taught him to write Tuesday,I expect that he will be speaking full sentences by the time I get there tonight.

Mike I couldn’t have said it any better. They are our just rewards. I can look back when my children were small and my Mother would let then get by with anything. I would tell her not to and she would tell me, “Just wait until you have grandchildren and you too will do the same.” How right she was.

Thanks Harriett.

Short story; About 8 years I was keeping my daughter’s 4 y/o twins for the weekend and Jessica kept hitting and pulling Robert’s hair. I told her that if she did it again, I would spank her bottom. She dared me and hit him, so I spank her once on the bottom. She looked up at me with tears rolling down her face and said, “Nanas not supposed to spank us. They are just suppose to love us.” To this day, I have never even scolded her, and she (they) will 13 in June. They know just how to get to you.

Sorry for all the grandparenting talk Deirdre.

I’ve had fun talking to all of you today, I must go now to get ready for my date with my daughter and to see Asa. I have a date with my youngest daughter tomorrow, it will be her 22nd birthday and I still have no clue as to what I’m going to get her!

I’ll get back to everyone in about 25 years regarding this grandparent stuff.

Nana, you said you didn’t see any name calling on here either but I believe this is what JJ was referring to.

nana wrote: Have to agree that War is not the jackazz on here. In the past couple threads, there have been things posted that shouldn’t have been and IMO was offensive. But I consider myself adult and mature enough to overlook some words, but I will say that one needs to be more considerate of other bloggers on here, after all, there are kids that read this blog as well as adults. So

I’m still not seeing name calling. Well aside from WE possibly calling himself a name, and if we can’t call ourselves names then maybe I should leave now. Of course I’m not going to leave, I’m too much of a loser. 24/7 baby!

JTesla

Anne24 regarding your 3:06 post: I know that Nana can defend herself, but she has left. To be honest I actually don’t feel that she needs defending. The “jackazz” reference was originally intended to refer to a long time blogger who is not here at this time. I get the impression from reading the portion of Nana’s post that you quoted that she is referring to that, as she is well aware of that topic. She then goes on to state that some things in recent threads were posted that shouldn’t have been. I think what is lacking in her post is a paragraph break between the “jackazz” portion and the “past couple of threads” portion. I’d emphasize the portion where she stated that she considers herself an “adult and mature enough to overlook some words, but…” PERHAPS that was pointed at you, but as you can see it lacked the name calling. It was a simple request.

So to break it down: “jackazz” was a reference to an inside joke that WE made and Nana understood. Be considerate was the veiled message to you (in my opinion).

With all that said, it is refreshing to read your view of Idol. Of course I don’t agree with it, but you would probably say that I am one of those people who get all orgasmic when Danny sings. Please pass the tissue.

Anne – trust me, you are not the Jackazz that was being referred to. that is reserved for one certain blogger and maybe a couple of close seconds. No way have you ever said anything to be considered in that light.

Now, the reference to language was to everyone. We all have slipped at times, and we all need to be reminded from time to time to watch what we type.

All of us have no problem with being “expressive” or even with some off-color comments, but we all try not to say certain words and phrases, and we would appreciate it if everyone did that.

LOL at your last paragraph JTesla. Passes the tissues. :)

You know how every forum has its own standards. I’ve been a member of a number of Idol boards but posting has slowed at a higher pace than the show ratings. So I looked for a board that still had a pulse and found this one. Almost 350 comments Tuesday night! That’s more than most get in a year these days. VFTW gets alot of action but all they do is make foul mouthed comments that make me look like a Mormon.
Anyway, I know what the tone of your forum is now so I”ll play fair but I’m still going to bash the judges, especially Paula, for doing another Taylor brainwashing on you all. And look how he turned out. Yeah, Broadway’s a good gig but I told everyone he was going to bomb in the recording industry.

JTesla

Anne24, I’ve said this a few too many times over the past few years, but Taylor who?

You’ll find that we can be very critical of judges and contestants; we just try to avoid words that would normally get blocked by a filter. Sometimes we get a little too raunchy and that is when we either get reeled back in or we corrupt someone and bring them over to the dark side.

Oh and watch out for War Eagle. ;)

Hey, Anne24. You came too late to the blog to know who we are all talking about, but suffice to say the blog is a much more pleasant place these days. We all feel free to disagree with each other, but observe civility in the process. The “unnamed” former blogger was mean-spirited, racist, sexist, you name it, and he enjoyed attacking unmercifully. Glad to say we are better off. That’s to whom Nana was directing her remarks. I know, enough already! Welcome.

Heya Anne24 — welcome to the nuthouse! we love it here! and invite you and many more to come on in and blog to your heart’s content!!! we fought for a long time to create an atmosphere of friendly rivalry, some ribaldry, discussion, disagreement (civilly), and discourse — Rodney, our Host with the Most, is a sweetheart, and we absolutely luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv bashing in a friendly way.

We WILL get drive-by types who shoot off at the mouth with everything from stupidity to vulgarity, but overall, you will see a lot of in-depth discussion of AI-related issues, and in between times, of issues of all sorts!!!!! Everything from other reality shows to other TV genres to music to style to …. well … **laughing** just about everything!!!

Rodney: regarding the difficulty of seeing recent posts, has anything been discovered about this?

When I first load the comments I am missing the two most recent posts
REFRESH – the two most recent posts show up
REFRESH – they are still there
REFRESH – the two most recent posts disappear.

The comment counter appears to be accurate, but the post populating is in flux. That’s about as technical as I can be with it. The oldest post, of the two twilight zone entries, was 25 minutes old.

woot, finally a little good news for braves fans. Tom Glavine has signed a 1 yr $1 million dollar contract. he could make $4.5 Mil with incentives.

A lot of people think he is too old, but I think he completes what should be a really formidable rotation. Lowe, Vazquez, Kawakami, Jurrjens, Glavine. It may not be Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery; but it is a rotation with no glaring weak spots. I am very happy.
