1/2: Nikko Smith’s new album, Gina Glocksen’s wedding

Sorry I’ve been kind of lame-o about getting on the Wordpress bandwagon here. Must post an item today, eh? I’ve been so busy with other things, I haven’t forced myself to actually learn stuff. Okay, here’s an item culled from MJ about Nikko Smith, season four finalist and Ozzie Smith’s son. He kind of disappeared but somehow has conjured up an album.

I liked him, thought he was pretty good, had an interesting style, good voice. Here’s his description of the album to the St. Louis Tribune, plus issues that held up the release:

“A lot of what I’m talking about is kicking it and partying and having fun and getting messed up, then going out the next night and doing the same thing,” he says.
And if that’s what Smith wants to do, then why not? Since “Idol,” his road to “Revolution” has been full of bumps he didn’t foresee. Like being an R&B singer competing with rappers for attention. And legal entanglements and financial issues that kept the project at a standstill for more than a year.

-Gina Glocksen from season six got married on New Year’s.

Glocksen and Joe Ruzicka, her longtime boyfriend, tied the knot on New Years Eve at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel in Naperville, IL in front of a group of family and friends that included several former American Idol contestants, Glocksen’s hometown Naperville Sun newspaper reported Wednesday.

Jordin Sparks and Haley Scarnato were bridesmaids.

-Kara DioGuardi is telling Entertainment Weekly that she’s feeling more comfortable in her role as the fourth judge.

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are “like brothers and sisters at this point. And I’m like the long-lost cousin who they’re not sure they wanted to see, but now they’re like, ‘Okay, you can stay for dinner.’ ”

And it looks like my buddy Ken Barnes over at USA Today’s Idol Chatter is passing on the reins after three years.

I loved the fact he was able to document all the sales figures so well each week. And he also did some record critiquing, too, which I am often too lazy to do myself. I hope whoever his successor is can do as good if not a better job.

Helloooo! Sorry, I was so frickin busy today that I couldn’t get near the computer. I LOVE this new format and will be blogging full time on Monday!

I liked Nikko, too but didn’t think he should win.

JT..what happened? You’re usually the first to comment on a new blog thread.

Yeah. That was a bummer, D. I’d like to mention Anne, who snuck in at the end of the first WP article and says she’ll be joining us … Welcome, again! Never fear to give us your opinion and thoughts! Most of us don’t get mad, we get even… oh wait. that’s not what i meant… well… :) may be it IS, sort of! Just kidding….

do you realize this thing does a sort of spell check? It doesn’t like the word “snuck”!!! :)

I didn’t see Anne before. Thanks for pointing it out, linny.

Anne, I wrote a note to you on the previous thread. We’re still getting used to this new format so it may take us some time to do it all right. Again, welcome! And we’re looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Nikko was a great dancer on the Idols tour. I’d love to see him have a career. For me, he slung a few off notes during the Season, but I do believe in his talent. He was wonderful to meet in person.

Anyone watching the World Dance Competition?

Good morning one and all! I am back at work after being off since Christmas Eve. Am actually glad to be back and see everyone. We will have a lull for a bit until the students get back, but I am glad to have a job to come to. Lots of others are not so lucky. And, the anticipation is building for the return of “our” Idol! What a time of year! And, Lost, too!

I didn’t watch the dance competition, Lara but I’m pretty sure linny did. She’ll be back tomorrow.

Harrietth, I hope you enjoyed your “down time”.

D, I did enjoy it, but I was very tired once Christmas stuff was over. I did get to watch some old tv programs on the Hallmark channel on weekeday mornings, which I enjoyed–reruns of The Waltons and Little House, etc. They are ageless! I also pretty much liked everything I got for presents, so I did not have to fight the crowds who were returning gifts. Went to see “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” and I liked it a lot. I think I’d have enjoyed it more with another actor playing the role, though. Brad Pitt is not my cup of tea! I know, this is heresy to some folks! :)

LOL!!! I haven’t seen Ben Button yet but we’ll be going this week. We saw Seven Pounds last week. Very good, very sad, bring tissues. And we saw Doubt yesterday. The performances were amazing.

Thanks for the input on the other movies, D. I plan to see both of them. I heard Seven Pounds was a tear-jerker, so I will be forearmed with tissues. I want to see Gran Torino as well. They say it may be Clint Eastwood’s finest acting job of his career.

I saw 7 pounds, and what I have to say about that movie is that they should be glad that Will Smith is such a good actor. The movie is a tear jerker, but the plot line got so scrambled. He definately made it worth watching.
I also saw Twilight again – took my mom. This time I got to hear the dialog, no screeming girls in my theatre. It really is a good movie, but could have been better, maybe with some more $$$ thrown in.

I am looking forward to the new season starting….especially 24 – go Jack Bauer!!!

Hubby wants to see Gran Torino and I’m kinda looking forward to it, too. We’ll probably see it next week.

Lara, I have questions, too about Seven Pounds but not everyone has seen it yet so asking would only ruin it for them. And…it’s always worth watching Will Smith…even if the movie is horrible(Hancock). :-)

Hi y’all…I haven’t seen TCCOBB or 7 Lbs yet, but they’re on my list. I did see Marley and Me (cute!) and Yes Man (it was Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey…decent). I also caught up with Eagle Eye, Secret Lives of Bees, and Role Models (hilariously wrong).

Hey, k&cf! I’m not sure I can go see Marley and Me. I read the book and cried for a day. Sad animal stories(and they’re sad if ANYTHING bad happens to the animal) wipe me out! As for Jim Carrey..I loved The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine but I can live without his “bouncing off the walls” movies. I’m kinda done with Will Farrell, too.

Aw, I hear ya, D. I cried like a baby…but blamed it on my allergies. Ha. News: the lyrics for Kelly’s new single, My Life Would Suck Without You. (It’s such a tease!) http://www.popeater.com/music/article/kelly-clarkson-shares-new-singles-lyrics/293500

Also, the rumor is her album name is Mascarade. (Hmm…) Yes, I was cheatin’ and reading MJ. ;)

LOL!!! No cheatin’ there, k&cf…Rodney encourages us to read mj. She’s full of info and, for her, it’s a full time job, unlike our Rodney who has a large number of irons in the fire and gives us attention when he can. I like mj’s blog, just don’t like to post there.

MJ is amazing at what she does. And yes, Deirdre, that “enter comment here” is in the box and you have to delete it every time you post. I’m going to ask tech about that… or remind me when the guy who set this up comes back to work. (He’s off today.)

I posted my third blog entry today. Still working my way in. Gotta learn how to embed videos next! And how to link polls!
